ae6b30 No.22234 [View All]
''The Empire our mother and the Emperor our father,
who tasked us to sail, build a kingdom like no other.
We built a new city from nothing but ashes,
yet creatures awaited for us in the marshes.
Oh mother send us faith,
Oh fatrher send us strength,
Darkness arises from depth.
We banish the devils we track down the beasts,
yet each day that passes they lurk in the mists!
We fight the evil and purge the undead,
yet it won't be long until we are all dead.''
Ugh by the name of all the gods I HATE poems! Says the emperor, thrusting his fist against the wooden table. The silver plattery shakes, but not as hard as the councilor on the very far end of the table, scuffling to impode into his robes. I… I know sire. B-but this is all the common folk are talking about, is what the bards sing in t- The emperor interrupts him by thrusting his fist against the table again, this time the councilor squeaks in a cowardly voice. I DO NOT CARE FOR THE PEASANTRY THOUGHTS!. The plattery stops shaking before the councilor speaks again Yes lord, o-ofcourse you don't. But If we ignore the pleadings of the people and let our colonized city to be demised- Why would I care about one city? There are a thousand more! the emperor grunts and drinks from his goblet . The councilor takes a deep breath before speaking again, this time in a clear crystal voice Sire, it is your great name that is on the stakes here. The emperor chokes on his wine and drops the goblet to cling and roll on the marbled floor. It takes him a minute of coughing before straightening up in his chair again. Fine! send the entire fleet with 200,000 men!. W-wait sire, the situation is not severe, we need merely a thousand to deal with- NO! YOU FOOL! MY NAME IS AT THE STAKES HERE!.
–
This is where our story begins. In a mythical land surrounded by ever creeping darkness, there stands a city. A beacon of hope for humanoids and civilization - the colony of the empire. You take the role of a guild within the city, sent by the emperor to govern the city and defend it while the empire assembles their 200,000 troops and sail your way to secure the area once and for all. Your guild will be facing off darkness from the outside and intrigue between the other guilds from the inside. How will you act? Improving yourself within the city by might weaken the city against the hordes of evil outside. Improving the city may come over your own benefits. Will you strike the right balance?
Become influencial and write the laws everyone in the city will bow to!
Start a rebellion to become the ruler of the city!
Become the hero the city needs and slay the dark beyond the walls!
Ally with darkness and see the city falls!
And much more…

1.) Silverfitter hires some distant laborers and begins building a wall on the western (left) end of the guild's borders. When asked for its purpose by the city officials, he proclaims that it's a "Most needed precaution against the recent forces of darkness that have made themselves known in the realm!"
2.) Mortimer and Bruce are sent to continue butchering meat in the fields, with a directive as to process the animals in such a way as to minimize hide loss.
3.) Azucena Briallen continues leatherworking from the resulting leather; it is hoped that she'll do better this time; "There are standards we have to live up to if we want to keep our public name!" says Silverfitter.
Silverfitter groans about having to keep the front of their enterprise so stringent; on one hand, nobody but those specifically in the know knew that any of their party were wizards; on the other, seeing all this chaos unfold around the city outskirts was making him quite uneasy.

Anniria - if you didn't understand me correctly and thought you shouldn't comment until I PM you - then im sorry. And i'll let you have double action next turn (since i took away your action wrongly this turn)
On another note: It seems like we are game overing soon. Since this is a 10 players game and the difficulty is at a scale of 10 players game, yet i get only about 8 comments per turn. Ill try to recruit 1-2 more members before we continue. I do have the next turn ready right now and can post it, but i prefer to have a whole experience rather than compromise everything.

sorry, also been busy and having personal issues, also just a side note,
> Hochmeisterin can't lead the party. Only work manager / guild leader can lead parties to doa labor mission. im putting the guild leader in charge then.
this is funny to me since you say the guild leader can't lead the work party and that only a guild leader can so you're going to put the guild leader in charge, just something I thought I'd point out.
my action this turn is just a repeat of last turn
1. Sindarel shall take an expansion action, expanding the guild's territory into the market and the two neighborhood tiles next to it and the guild area.
2.3.4. Led my the Hochmeisterin the remaining guild members shall go to the butchery to collect meat

also I think my influence is wrong, this turn I gained 10, last turn I gained 9, but it says I have 17 influence, which not even counting previous influence is wrong, unless I still lost 10 influence for trying to expand and went negative, which is not something I thought was possible.

To insure that no power takes advantages of the shortages in food, no single group will be allowed to make large purchases that could destabilize the markets at this time.

Silverfitter rubbed the gunk out of his eyes as he headed out into the woods, cursing at the long walk in between the guild home and the closest point of civilization; luckily, it seemed no monster, or even animal for the matter wanted to live in these particular woods, so the only thing it meant for the wizard in hiding was a long slog, his shoes stepping over leaves and branches and dirt and other foul things that he wished he best not threaded upon especially after having Mortimer shine them for him; he really was hard on the boy, but he needed to be in order to keep his head on straight, he felt, especially to keep him away from that muscle-headed guard that he's been looking for an excuse to despose of: Elie noticed that Bruce had started…interacting with his employees/apprentices, and it would be little good when the time came for the reason they were sent here that they decided to abandon him over it; his master would be most displeased.
He dismissed the thought as he was finally out into the clearing, a set of cottages up ahead. Elie Silverfitter smiled as he walked up to the front door of one of the buildings, knocking on it lightly…
1.) Elie Silverfitter claims the two unclaimed buroughs as well as downward vacant tiles. (-10 Influence)
2.) Azucena Briallen is sent to the market to buy 16 ore; she is encouraged to use her charm to try and haggle it down, though not pursue if the merchants aren't buying it; she's just a merchant girl, after all! (-384 gold?)
3.) Mortimer and Bruce are sent to the fields for harvest now that they've finally been cleared; In fact, when Silverfitter recruited the latter, he was quite sure he was a farmer…how good a farmer was debatable considering his occupation of "homeless drunk" by the time he found him.

Welp, I had an electricity break while running the simulation, it has crashed and all saved data of the current game has been corrupted.
I need a couple days to re-create (because there is no loading, i got bunch of gibberish where there should have been database) the current game.
And, I could also use a few more days to fix the bugs I have encountered and imbalances (I can finally adjust the threat spawn without fearing anything bad will happen to the game).
If you have any comment about what you think i should change in the game or methods I should add please comment! Because now I have a few days to do just that. Hope to see you all still here and back in action after I fix the code.
List of bugs I should fix
– Manual description doesn't work
– Sometimes the program refers to member as Character@ID instead of outputting their name.
List of things I should add
– More variation in what members are doing in aftermath.
– Program should show more log about how it makes calculations to player
– A method for guilds to cooperate when doing quests
– New and better threat spawn with balance scaling according to the amount of players actually making an action instead of existing players.
–
Please add you own ideas for new features and bugs you might have noticed.

I can continue from the same point we are at now.
It would be easier for me to re-boot, but I imagine you'd like to continue from this point. It'll take me some time to recreate all the data tho.

if we'd gotten waaaaaaaaaaaay further.
Also just an idea.
Why not set it up so that you can adjust difficulty based on the number of guilds that TAKE action on the previous turn? That way it doesn't matter who is active or inactive?

wait there was a program doing this the whole time? Huh didn't know that…. Also maybe some stuff for the Lawkeepers to do besides just changing the law? Like I dunno, the ability to attack those who have broken it? or the ability to blockade a guild that they suspect is about to try something or something other than just changing the laws around.

If we're going full reboot then we need some other changes
1) We need SOMETHING constructive for unlead people to do. Even if it's just a way less effective method of gathering resources.
2) Enemies should spread out their damage a bit more, they alway s focused on one person at a time, and if they focused on your weaklings first tough shit. So instead there should be the ability for tanks to 'take' the damage, as a skill. Even if their personality isn't suited for it, they should do so because it's their JOB and they know they'll die if they don't (only cowards are exempt).

I think giving them a day off should ALWAYS give them a fairly significant moral boost.
As you said before Bidderlyn, moral loss can be a SIGNIFICANT slippery slope, with little to no way to pull out of it. Tantrum spirals seem to be a legitimate worry, and unlike in dwarf fortress, out only method of controlling it is depending on the people making friends with their team mates.
Other thing. Higher chance for your starting quartet of becoming friends rather than rivals. And people working together should be more likely to become friends unless they have significant crit fails. You learn to like the people you work with.

I agree with your suggestions (mostly, ill get more in-depth about it later) and have a few other ideas to add in mind.
Woul you like to see tech-tree in game? I thought about it asa good idea since i got nothing intelligence gives except skills (all other attributes are also good for certain labor) and from now on intelligence could be the base stat for tech development.
If I do it, it's naturally going to take a few days. But I think it might add a cool layer to the game - or do you think the game has enough layers as is?

Hmmm… I'm tempted to say 'yes' but honestly?
I think it'd be a bad idea until we get the basic function game tested and can offer suggestions as to what those techs should be.

So are we full rebooting?
Also full suggestioin list
>Something for people to do constructively while not on a job (moral increase? self training if at full moral?)
>Enemies on combat missions should spread out their damage a bit more, and there should be specific tanky type jobs that will try to take damage for their friends simply because it's their job to do so, bodyguards can be evil fucks and they'll still throw themselves in harmsway. Basically Fighters should always try to take the blow for someone weaker then them perhaps? Cowards are exempt from this.
>The difficulty spawning of a turn should be determined by the number of guilds to take action in the previous turn
OR
>player guilds who don't take actions should have a random set of actions applied to them that somewhat make sense. Try to get food first, then try to reduce threats starting with internal threats, then opening up food resources, then mountain as the last kind.

Just an update:
No im not dead. XCOM 2 stole me away for a week or so, but im fully back in action.
Infact im now making more content than ever, I have taken the task to make a tech-tree for the game and its currently looking very promising. There are several more additions which I won't get into depth with so the game should feel fresh enough :^)
Just keep in mind that this game exists and that i'd love to have everyone here to join it when its rebooted. There's what to expect. Hope to see ya then.

Idea: illegal operations
These are marked on any tile, including operations. They require no upkeep, and only the owner knows what they are. Cults might give might, bourdelors give influence, gambling dens give wealth, and so on.
They can be targeted for attack, and an attack always disrupts them, removing them from the map. If unsuccessful, no legal repercussions, if successful, the owning guild is punished as per the laws.
There is one acception. Ambushes. Ambushes never give resources, but if attacked, the defender gets several free attacks before the battle even begins, the attacker only defends, unable to do damage for those rounds.
Ambushes never cause legal troubles, even if the defender loses. Further, defenders may trigger ambushes if the ambush is placed on a tile being targeted for attack, theft, or sabatoge (and they find out about it) or adjacent to said targeted tile.
Illegal operations require no upkeep, and are easy to disrupt. But constantly replacing them can get expensive, and non-shadowy organizations can have trouble maintaining them. Depending on events, some types of illegal operations (cults for example) will automatically mark the owning guild as traitor to the city, superceding all guild based protections if an attack successfully targets such an operation.

Sorry, can be placed on any tile including neighborhoods
Also idea:
Wards. Can be placed on a tile to render it immune to offensive magic. Or increase the cost of might to cast spells against the territory. Each ward can increase might costs by 5. Wards cannot be placed on a tile that also has walls.

I remember we talked about that, an I haven't forgotten :)
I wonder if "they can removed by being attacked" is a godo idea, since attack is a very big thing, and i doubt people will attack each other just to disrupt illegal operations. Maybe there is a more subtle way to implement the "attack" method.(maybe limited amount of member can attend and the chance for the battle to be deadly is lesser? I need to find a way for it to atleast make sense)
–
Anyway,
Im going to make this possible via a branch in the tech tree (so you must acquire the knowledge of "how to make a secret operation" before doing such). I might even expand it to a few follow-up techs which improve it, since i really like the idea. Cheers for adding your thoughts, it really drives me to continue working
>>24051
Also a fine idea, ill have to find the right tweaks and balance but it sounds like a reasonable thing to achieve through the magical-defensive branch of the tech tree. Also, there are no offensive spells currently that affect certain area, so unless the spell protects all guild members by influencing a guild-hall tile it seems ill have to find some other way to make it work (or maybe adjust spells so they'll be more area-based)

ae6b30 No.24211

Well the idea is that -any- attack will disrupt the operation.
Illegal Operations are POWERFUL!
A gambling den might provide even just HALF the income of an inn, but has NO upkeep at all. That's a major temptation. But a criminal guild might just eat the cost since they're not going to be spanked with legal repercussions. Other guilds might not either provided that the laws on such things are lax enough.
The deterent is you have no idea if you're hitting an ambush or not. Imagine going into a battle and you can't retaliate for the FIRST three-five rounds. There's a VERY good chance that you will be slaughtered in that battle unless you send overwhelming odds.
Are you willing to bet on the illegal operation not being an ambush? There's no advantage to disrupting an ambush, even if you 'win' it won't trigger an illegal event.
See? Illegal Operations are high risk, high reward, for both sides. They bypass the need for upkeep, they give immediate resource returns by methods normally not possible to gain, and they have a trap card mixed in. You could even have various other kinds of trap illegal operations. A 'sting' or 'frame job' for example would cause the attacker to be framed for a crime instead of the person who owned the illegal operation. You have to carefully consider who you are attacking and how. And the ease of disruption counter balances the fact that they'd have no upkeep and give immediate, sustainable, resources.
As for the wards, yeah, I was gonna suggest having it so that every 'ward' in your territory increases might costs of spells cast against you by 5-10, or increases the number of necessary casters by 1, rather than making your territory immune.

ae6b30 No.24212

also a way to balance out ambushes and frame jobs would be that you can only have one 'trap' illegal operation for ever 3 actual illegal operations you have. It's the only way to get dirt on enough non-guild members in the area to make sure they're in on it and won't turn you in.
That way 'law abiding' guilds can't just turn their entire zone into a trap filled fuck-fest.
Probably should also be some stat like intelligence that lets you not trigger an ambush or a frame job.

Another suggestion would be that given that each of your guild types has 2 words in the name, and each guild type provides 2 effects (active and passive)
You should have that be the way it works. You pick two terms for a guild's type, and combine them, and that gives you your active and passive.
Shadowy Society for example;
Shadowy: Can shut down watchtowers
Society: Immune to punishments for crimes.

Oh! Final suggestion.
A clear picture of what threats are where on the map: >>22557
along with the depiction of what resources are where in a clear manner.
And I think the ability for the Sentinels should definitely be focused around increasing safety and to allow business to proceed as usual, perhaps even grabbing people from the barracks as a militia for impromptu missions, or declaring certain missions to be 'group' missions where people can contribute together.
Finally, as we discussed here: >>22701
Adjust your enemy spawn rates. Remember, the way you have this game set up, LARGE NUMBERS of enemies are HARDER to deal with than HIGH LEVELS of enemies. High levels for enemies are -impossible- to deal with for guilds without incredible amounts of luck. None of our guilds could even -touch- a high level opponent.
Likewise, for fights, the AI should switch up targets, and the paladin and warrior classes should deliberately try to take hits for other squishier classes whenever they can unless they have the [Coward] trait, even if they are evil. Now if they're [Evil] and have a [Rival] that's being attacked, they won't defend the rival, but they'll otherwise defend people because they're motivated by self interest and not COMPLETE blithering idiots who don't understand that when fighting, you watch out for your allies so that they'll help you fight the guys trying to kill you.
Likewise, a [Coward] should overcome their [Cowardice] and try to defend a friend if they are of the paladin or warrior classes. And anybody should try to take a hit for a [Friend] if their own HP isn't lower.

Oh, sorry, FINAL final suggestions.
You know how Settlers of Catan has 'trade' spaces? And they're not actually on the map?
We should have those on the port side, and 'gates' on the other side, always adjacent to at least two hexes. Controlling them will give you benefits. Like controlling a gate would give you a steady income of the resources related to that gate, where as controlling a port/dock would give you a constant steady stream of wealth.
So:
West: The Docks, give +1 Wealth a turn for every hex adjacent to them you control. Give +1 Wealth for every 'trade' action taken on the map as well if you control all ports.
North: The Meadow Gates, give +1 Meat a turn for every hex adjacent to a meadow gate you control. Gives +1 Meat for every meat harvesting action taken that turn, and +1 wealth for every mission taken to the north. Those last two only proc if you control all northern gates
East: The Field Gates, give +1 Crops for every hex you control adjacent to a field gate. Gives +1 crops for every crop harvesting mission taken, and +1 wealth for every eastern mission taken. Those last two only proc if you control all eastern gates
South: The Mine Gates, give +1 ore for every hex you control adjacent to a mine gate you control. Give +1 Ore for every mining action taken that turn. Give +1 Wealth for every southern mission taken. Those last two only proc if you control all southern gates
Basically controlling the gates lets you control the TOLLS.
The Gates to the North, South, and East give both resources AND wealth because, in actuality, those types of actions are far less likely to be taken than trade actions.
Trade actions occur incredibly often. Whenever somebody sells or buys something at market, or trades between guilds, is a trade action, and would proc most often out of every possible action in the game really.
You could also make them specific tiles. 3 to a side. Like the city buildings and such that can't be built.

Answered you most of those on #Nation. If there is anything more you want me to answer just ask for it (I know i still haven't replied on everything and I don't mind elaborating more so everyone could see)
Anyhow just dropping the tech tree. Took far longer than you can imagine to make this thing, putting these mechanics into code is nightmerish but the result is always worth the while.
This is just the first preview of the tech tree and it may change.
New attribute called "research" is now added to the game, you will receive attribute according to the total amount of int your guild has each turn. (more ways such as building libraries exist to father boost research score)
Cheers for all of you who are still following, hope you'll all see how the wait was worth it in the end.
I assure you I'm fully spending nearly my entire free time developing this game.
