If you want to buy a house in Portugal there are many things to consider. The most important thing is to find the one that is right for you. This could mean buying an old stone building and renovating it, or it could mean buying a brand new apartment in a promising area. You can find all kinds of houses on https://prian.info/au/portugal/madeira-region/madeira/ , from villas with pools to farmhouses with goats, so take your time and explore your options.

I've been thinking of buying a house for a while already, but all of them would need a renovation, and I don't know if it would be better for me to save more money for the purchase or deal with everything myself.

I think it depends on the type of renovations, and if it's actually worth your time and money. When I bought a house, I just did some minor renovations and installed insulation boards from https://insulationwholesale.co.uk/ , so it wasn't problematic for me at all. And I think you should consider all the costs and benefits and decide if it'll be a good solution or not.
