It's a well-knowable yet much covered-up fact that flying saucers and the like are a Nazi invention. Many SS members funneled themselves into the US government via the CIA. We know the plane crash was a coverup as part of the master plan involving a Nazi aircraft (Bane is an unreliable narrator), and Nolan's last film partially involved Nazi aircraft as a wink and a nod to this. Now fascism is on the rise across the world, the underground Reich coming overground, and Baneposting is on the decline, being destroyed on the inside by Nazis as they had done to America.
