Can anyone recommend some great seinen? The more obscure the better, I know about the more popular stuff

That's a great show. A little gay as a warning. Portrays comradery well. There's some twists and turns but kind of fizzles toward the end. Still the really strong beginning makes it worth it. Also a totally metal OP.

Read real literature. If you want boring ass dialogue-bubbles over boring-ass "mature" art by ESL-translators and irredeemable scan quality be my guest. Seinen, as far as I see it, is not a real genre. The way I'd categorize it is as something that's not very expressive. I like anime/manga for their colors, for their over-the-top situations. For their silly shit. For their edgy shit. If you take all that spice away you get seinen. Boring shit about boring people living realistic lives? Why even draw a manga about that? Answer: because you suck at art and you're too dumb to be writing a real novel.

>the more obscure the better

I thought you wanted great seinen. Not be special that you read a niche within a niche.

Don't let the weird art and slow start fool you. This is a psychological thriller about a bunch of kids accidentally causing an accident that killed and injured several people, then trying to run away from both guilt and law enforcement.

>the herbivore is destined to be eaten by the lion

>what is that quote

>I heard it here

>what does this mean hurr

Very intelligent yet I still can't tell if he originally meant to ask what it meant rather than ask where it's from due to the awful nature of the translation or if he actually asked where and was mistranslated as what. I dunno what or who paisen is (but I'm glad the TL told me the meaning of the acronym AV instead) either or why ww3 would equal his death. Seeing as the next line is how he doesn't want to die perhaps the "wonder" is a mistranslation and the proper sentence would be "I wish ww3 would happen soon"? What does "throwing my future to the doves" mean exactly?

Can you help me out? You've read it after all. They're excerpts out of the first 17 pages.

What type of loneliness? Depression? Self-actualization?

 No.99194

>WW3 and death

He's just afraid of dying before losing his virginity, musings of a virgin

>paisen

is a sempai you're close friends with

>what is that quote

I think he was really asking for the meaning. For some reason, nips don't get metaphors the same way westerners do, I find it puzzling too. On the other hand nip metaphors might seem weird to us as well, since they might draw different meanings from a single kanji that otherwise might not seem to be related at all to us.

Then again, I'm kinda guessing, since I don't know the original text and haven't read it in a while.

 No.99227

>he's just afraid

What does WW3 have to do with that?

A metaphor is not a proverb. But whatever. The scans suck and so does the scanlation. Can't even get band names right. This is below my standards.

 No.99268

I read through this some time ago and I'll second it. Some of the stuff that happens is genuinely hilarious but mostly it's about a bunch of depressing fuckups and it got pretty real pretty fast.

 No.99271

>>99227

I think you're making too much drama over nothing. If a teen character said something like "I hate my school, I wish a meteor would fall on it'' you as the reader wouldn't repply with "is this a sci-fy then? when's the meteor coming? are there gonna be aliens?".

>>99268

And it gets more intense as time goes on. The stakes keep increasing.

Also, Paisen went from being HATED by me, to being pitied, and then he became my favorite character. He's the one who had the most character progression through the story maybe the only one who did, I think that's what that final arc after shit got real for the last time is all about: That after all that happened the others fell back on their characters no matter how many hardships they endured

 No.99275

>>99176

I always understood seinen as manga and anime that wasn't for younger kids. Seinen is more for edgy teenagers and/or adults. Berserk, Excel Saga, Ghost in the Shell, You're Under Arrest!, Oh My Goddess!, Initial D, Cowboy Bebop, Lupin III, Elfen Lied, and Gantz are all seinen. Who here among us doesn't like at least a few of these?

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Neon Genesis Evangelion are two shows where the beginning part is considered shonen, and that later part is considered seinen. Seinen is not the spalding gray crap you make it out to be.

 No.99323

>>99271

>you're making too much drama

I'm critiquing either the writing, or the translation. Your analogy would actually be a proper sentence. Which is not the case with this manga. A better comparison would be.

>I wonder if a meteor would fall, I want to die but I want to get laid

Which you can see is just a bad sentence. But you're free to defend bad writing. Doesn't mean I'm the one making drama.

>>99275

Lupin is for children. The 5 year old kind. But it's nice to know there's adults out there that enjoy something like that. Makes me feel better about myself. NGE is a pretentious harem wish-fulfillment isekai. Stop talking about what other people consider things. It's not a substitute for an argument.

I've heard some people say YKK was depressing but I don't really get why. It's more like people dealing with the simple things in life now that humanity has been set back thanks to the great flooding. I don't really see where it's depressing.

It's implied that humans have lost so much that they've decided to just die out comfortably. The idea of humanity "giving up" and going gently into that good night can be depressing to some.

 No.99513

>>99464

That's stupid. Humans aren't a collective hive-mind, no decisions are made collectively and unanimously. And even if one generation decided on one thing because they're tired and old, whatever kids are around would have their own minds to make up.

Clearly aliens have infiltrated the upper echelons of society in this case and are to save themselves a relativistic bomb.>>99464

>It's implied that humans have lost so much that they've decided to just die out comfortably

That sounds a lot like modern-day Japanese society, with people there not wanting to marry/procreate and shutting themselves inside their homes. But perhaps that was the point of the series.

 No.101553

Not that anon, but i read LNs and wrote my own amateur literature before, but it's not as though there's much of a community to share it with on 8chan.

I just perceive western literature as dull.

>I just perceive western literature as dull.

Funny. I find seinen manga to be dull. Especially the obscure ones with shitty scan-quality and ESL translation.

 No.101940

>>101774

I've dealt with really bad translations, i.e ambiguous antecedents, inconsistent transliterations, or just badly overwritten prose. But the idea and concept is still there and engaging.

Meanwhile just finding something interesting in western literature from the current decade and not the 19th century and recommended reading from a high school or undergrad class, not so easy.

I've read a couple of VNs. I feel there's too much overlap. Doesn't help that they're all harem romance either. I feel like that genre has been perfected already.

But sure, if you've never read a VN before, you should at least read a couple to get a general idea. I've read the 5 or so that were worth a thing already and even those dragged on. Investing 5 hours in a route that's the equivalent of two 10 minute scenes of some girl desperately not trying to take of her gloves, no matter the foreshadowing, is still too long.

>>101940

I just think seinen manga are bad at telling a seinen story. There's plenty of literary alternatives to isekai however.

 No.102319

>>102314

Have you read Saya no Uta, Ever17 or Muv-Luv Alternative? Romance is almost inevitable in a VN, but it doesn't have to be borning cliche romance with nothing else going on.
