I got into anime and manga when I was much younger. This was before western animation and comics became cancer. I just enjoyed the cute girls, interesting stories/characters, giant robots, good soundtracks, all that gore/edge and the wacky humor. Harem manga fueled my inner wizard and things like Berserk reminded me of cool stuff like Heavy Metal so I enjoyed it. Manga/anime has every audience. Want gay shit? You got that. Yuri? Plenty of it. Buff men tossing each other through buildings? Lots to go around. A wizard taking revenge on the world by building a dungeon of demons and raping women into submission? That's a thing and it's allowed to exist.
Over time, western animation went to shit along with comics. Saying that, I didn't even get into comic books until very recently (there's a lot of great stuff I missed) and I only got back into anime a few years ago. I mainly stuck to manga and still do for the most part but I try to consume more anime thanks to the /animu/ stream.
Now western entertainment in general is completely cucked and many are starting to realize it. Justice League and JLU are still some of my favorite cartoons. When DC makes an animated movie their writing can really shine. Besides a few things, anime hasn't changed all that much and has only grown in size. Sadly, this will lead to less controversial stuff like lewd loli and (((western influence))) is becoming a greater problem. Another problem I see is that western entertainment used to actually be an inspiration for some JP directors/animators. Now the west is so shit they can't even look to them for inspiration. For the most part, I enjoy anime for the same reason I did before. But now it seems to be the only place I can find this material now. Especially loli material, not that loli was much of a thing in the west.

Jap media might heavily rely on the same archetypes and overused flavor of the month/year/decade settings, but at the very least they still can add some twists to execution of a typical plot and make the characters endearing, enough for me to keep giving a shit about the story. Can't really say the same for anything else these days.

I don’t like anime that much, but i’m a sucker for 2D animations of any kind and Japan is the only country that shits these out on a seasonly basis. Western Cartoons was at their heyday during the early 90’s to the late 00’s and my childhood watching those absolutely dwarfed my consumption of animu materials in those formative years, with Doraemon, Shinchan and Takeshi’s Castle being the only Jap media that i regularly watched re-runs if. But ever since Adventure Time got released (which to it’s credit, is actually very fun and lighthearted in it’s first three seasons) i can only see a downward trend of quality in western animations. Are folks that used to consume Western comics / animation during their second heyday before the new 10's rolled along. It showed just how much the quality went down the drain, with the SJWs infesting them as a cherry on top of the shitcake or the rot finally showing itself, depending on your point of view. The most depressing thing is that it is all fucking true, barely any western animation series in the past few year have ever surpassed the quality that has already been made last decade. Western comics often stick too much to realism, with human-like or otherwise based on real creatures most of the time. A good chunk of eastern manga is that, while it does have its touch of realism, it also has artistic liberties that don't feel out of place. It can easily switch between a serious artstyle and a lighthearted, simplistic and comical one to emphasize on the aspect of it being fictitious.
You don't ever see Superman doing a face like pic related. The only exception I know is Deadpool and maybe the Joker on some occasions, but that's because his face is already ridiculous most of the time.

Well, the main point would be that I just like 2D animation and that Japan is seemingly the only country that produces high-quality animated films and series. Europe has produced a few interesting arthouse animation films but not enough to turn it into a full-time hobby like anime. I think the anime from the 80s and 90s were especially impressive and worth watching for its visuals alone, which I do, even when I don't like the stories/characters that much. But even if the west was producing animation at the same rate as Japan, it just lacks the knowledge of aesthetics that seems to be unique to the Japanese.
I guess I'm also a self-insert fag to a certain degree, a lot of the first anime I watched were centered around anti-social teenagers (Clannad, Haruhi, TWGOK) and later adults. I also like CGDCT though. The reason why so many hardcore fans are NEETs and other social outcasts is because anime provides you with a level of escapism that is not to be found in other media like vidya. Again, this is probably because of their feel for aesthetics but the Japs really have a knack for making you feel like you're actually in the world of the show you're watching.

That's not quite what happened with comics. The Marvel and DC Universes have been telling one long story for over 80 years at this point. For the talk you hear of "reboots," they never truly rebooted. Action Comics #1 is still mostly canon, and that's not actually the earliest comic in that universe. Eventually, fans started getting into creative positions, and took for granted that they knew all the complex histories that had been built up for 50 years by that point. So they started telling stories that relied on those histories. And a lot of great stories have been told that rely on the reader already having knowledge of all the different character relationships and moments of their histories. But it has completely locked out new readers for about 30 years now. It's great if you understand it, but if you want to understand it, you have to start no later than about 1985.

The same way many fantasy authors try to create worlds that feel like you could live in them. The DCU built up a world like that semi-organically over 80 years. Even locations, both fictional and real, have their own unique histories that evolved over time. The characters and the relationships between them became very complex and nuanced. When you get to know Wally West over 60 years, seeing him grow from a young fanboy to one of the most well respected members of the group he used to idolize, you grow attached to the character. Then they pull shit like they did last week. Made him into a villain so they could replace him with the black kid they already tried to replace him with before. In years past, we could always know that things like that would go back to normal eventually, but SJWs are making such a determined effort to kill off the entire medium that I don't know if that will happen this time. It's more likely the entire industry will crumble and these worlds will finally die. The Anti-Monitor couldn't do it, Mandrakk and The Empty Hand couldn't do it, but finally, SJWs will do it.
