Currently re-watching Mystery of Mamo. F.

Cagliostro is overrated. Fuck Miyazaki for softening him for normalniggers, not to mention taking away Lupin's SSK in favor of that gay Fiat.

I've always hated the Ghibli-zed versions of the characters, especially with how butch they make Fujiko, or how Jigen looks like a bum down on his luck.

Yes, I know Ghibli didn't actually exist when Miyazaki and Takahata worked on the series, but the point stands: their take on Lupin is not representative of the franchise at all, and it's how infuriating how normalfags constantly defend it while shiting on Monkey Punch's original characterizations because they're too misogynistic, offensive, triggering, etc.

Look everyone, it's a normalnigger who thinks generic watered down robin hood Lupin is how the character's supposed to act, even getting the jacket and personality type wrong.

>WAAAAAAAH THIS MANGA ABOUT A THIEF PORTRAYING HIM ACTING LIKE AN ACTUAL CRIMINALS SHOULD TWIGGERS ME

Oh, sorry Monkey Punch's original thieving character acts like a real amorous, two-timing criminal. Were you offended by original manga Lupin not treating womyn and whores like Fujiko with respectful nods?

But seriously, bitching about stories starring amoral characters doing actual bad, underhanded shit is SJW talk. Think about what you posted.

I've read some of the Lupin manga and I really love his art style. I'm not that knowledgeable on Lupin, the only animated Lupin I watched being the old pilot episode.

Is there a guide to watching Lupin? I'm interested in watching something akin to the darker tones of the manga, sone no red-jacket stuff. How good are the green-jacket and blue-jacket stuff?

The soundtrack and car chase scene are the best parts about Cagliostro. Green jacket isn't as bad as pink, and it was Miyahacki's first directing gig

>Is there a guide to watching Lupin?

The series is zany and nonsensical to the point of having no strict continuity. Start from anywhere, my personal recommendation being Mystery of Mamo as it really encapsulates Lupin during his 70s heyday.

And despite my bitching about Cagliostro, still give it a watch as it has some nice animation and as >>97513 said, it was Cuckazaki's first film he directed. That they managed to complete the film in 8 months is also no small feat, but you have to remember that the portrayal of the characters in that movie is not representative of the franchise, especially Monkey Punch's original manga.

>I'm interested in watching something akin to the darker tones of the manga, sone no red-jacket stuff.

>the only animated Lupin I watched being the old pilot episode.

<Yet another newfag getting the jackets wrong

Green Jacket is primarily sanitized Lupin. Red Jacket is typical more amorous and amoral, though later adaptations to soften up him a bit. I've watched blue jacket yet.

>One little-known piece of trivia is that Lupin and Fujiko get married and have a child in a spinoff manga called Lupin Kozō (Lupin the Brat), which Monkey Punch drew in 1975. It first began serialization in December 1975, and concluded in September 1976 with 18 chapters. It was published in the short-lived Weekly Shonen Action magazine, which ran for only 28 issues.

>Although the manga itself is ambiguous about who Lupin the Brat's parents are, Monkey Punch confirmed his identity in interviews. One fan recently posted a clip from a television interview where Monkey Punch spoke about the matter. The reaction from the interviewer is priceless.

>In the various Lupin III manga and anime stories, Lupin and Fujiko are shown to have flirtatious but not necessarily romantic relationship. In some stories they are amicable, while in others they attempt to interfere with each other. In an interview with ANN from 2003, Monkey Punch described them as "not necessarily lovers, not necessarily husband and wife, but more just having fun as man and woman with each other and using their weapons against each other, but in an enjoyable way."

>Monkey Punch was born in Hamanaka, Hokkaido in 1937. He made his major debut with Playboy Nyūmon in Futabasha's Manga Story magazine in 1965. Lupin III then launched in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine in 1967. Due to the popularity of the series, the first Lupin III television anime adaptation premiered in 1971. The franchise has since inspired numerous television anime and films, as well as live-action works and games.

>Monkey Punch passed away on April 11 due to pneumonia. He was 81.

I started watching Lupin a couple months ago, and, having no idea where to start, I've just resolved to start from the earliest and go onward. Watched all of the original Green Jacket, and I'm on the second series, around ep 55. I love this series, though something that kind of upset me was the change of Zenigata's skin tone from the first to second series. Not because of some sjw whitewashing bullshit, but I felt the darker skintone he had could have been symbolic of how Zenigata was a working class man. It seemed symbolic to me, of a class difference between the two.

 No.100694

I only ever watched the Ghibli film (which was pretty good) and the 2012 adaption about Fujiko Mine (which was garbage) but I like the concept and aesthetics of the series. I have a feeling that most of the series will have the same kind of writing as the 2012 adaption though so I probably won't ever watch more of it.

going in from the beginning was rough for me, it seemed dry and slow, so dropped each season one ep in until i found one i liked
