The magnificient adaptation really pulls out the latent value in the manga. Alone it was an acid, offbeat thing with an unclear purpose. Now it's a calculated chaos of very different genres with an almost desperate undertext, like a message in a bottle for the viewer.

Not everything can, or should be said in a stupid way. Good things deserve a decent exposition. Don't get your panties in a bunch whenever someone doesn't speak like a retard: don't forget, we're not actually dumb faggots.
Mob manga is kaleidoscopic: there is a whole lot of different influences and styles, very uneven. And I believe they don't mix that good, or at least in a much worse way than animated - because music and montage help each element feel the right weight a bit better.
That undertext is obviously in the various moral of the story moments. Mob or Reigen talk to you, essentially. It's different and more oblique than the usual shonen talk, like about selflessness and friendship. Those are mostly a matter of overcoming an obstacle to a goal: the trajectory of the problem solving is clear, but the voyage is painful (life changing goals, deeply rooted issues). Mob's problems are more like therapy, where he doesn't know what will actually help him to achieve what (very deflated, pessimist); but will react positively on his own, when apparently on the right path.
The best written characters are those you can't completely predict, with points of view that do make sense from their perspective but not necessarily from yours. You respect that certain degree of independence they have.

There's several layers to their conversion.
1. The assholes wouldn't stop until they met an overpowering force, as you say. That's a disillusioned view of morality.
2. They themselves were powerful, and used it for evil. So they didn't just lose randomly, but took a step back on the societal balance of power. Again a pretty dark view of society.
3. These people turn miserable wrecks, without their power. Only Mob does not get corrupted by it, and even him can suffer the ???% state. This is the usual 'absolute power absolutely corrupts' discourse.
That paints quite the bleak picture. I remember some philosopher who said 'a slave has more freedom, than an actually free man who's burdened by sin'. As to say that giving in to your dark desires, makes you depend on them and (most importantly) you won't like it in the least.
Mob is beating them as much as saving them.

So the possibilities are:
1. Murata doesn't switch gears and proceeds working on OPM into the 2030s.
2. He speeds up his work and the story continues as diluted as it is now, just on a faster scheduel.
3. He cuts some corners to get the arc done faster: adding insult to injury, since he will have effectively wasted years over insipid filler beside the point, while being cheap over the real meat of the story.

If you're wondering why the final battle felt so flat in comparison to the manga, it's because they cut out all the internal monologue of the Claw boss. Seems like they cut out a lot of moments to force the end to be the way it was. Shame. Too bad for this seasonal 12 episode structure. Long running series benefit from it but concentrated manga without an expansive story seem to suffer as it always end up fucking with the original intent. Felt like the whole season suffered after the house fire end episode. I also hated the banal as fuck(and false) message ONE is giving off.
No.95258
What would have made the last episode feel less rushed would have been proper transitions from shame-to-sadness and the period just before resignation. There was also an issue in the final scene, specifically the fact that they cut out the fact WHY that mob was taking Toichirou's hand when he was going to kill himself from regret rather than just deciding from limiting the explosion to redirecting it on the spot.
A shame, because they could have made both scenes make much more sense if they properly conveyed that Mob could read his mind or something to that effect during the bubble thing or before crushed him. While I'm certain they wouldn't do that in the Blue-Ray release, small extra touches or scenes here and there could fix it to have a bit better flow and greatly improve the episode overall.
Not that the episode bad, but the rather small dip in quality feels substantial in comparison to the consistently solid performance we had from Bones in regards to how they have been adapting the comic so far.
I'm saying this as someone who just binged the comic after finishing S2

But they did? Mob sees the same flashback the viewer sees. They even se precedent for this ability in the previous episode.

In the manga, the Claw president serves as a shadow of Mob himself. With similar powers and the same percentage trick: i.e. his transitions in power output were expected, announced and tested just like when Mob is going 100% with maximum fanfare.
Basically they kept the fight's choreography, but botched the script badly until the moves lost their meaning. I guess it is indeed possible for good animation to harm a show, when it overrides story.
No.95314

I meant it being more clear that he did that.I could "assume" thats what happened, but I certainly didnt feel it as organically as the comic, where Mob and the Claw boss had an actual dialogue in the end and the beginning.
They established that he COULD do that in the previous episode(or get a feel of his mood or some shit to that effect instead of full-on mind-reading), but they didnt make it clear that he did that during the final episode.
Stating what someone CAN and IS doing are two seperate things, they could have had him absorb some of the bosse's energy like he did with the umbrella guy before crushing him in the ball and get the speech before that.My point is that him getting a frontrow seat at the flashbacks has to be assumed instead of understood.
Mob was never shown as a straight up as mind-reader either,so him suddenly displaying it right there adds to the rushed feel of the episode.

I'm not a manga reader but I didn't see it as a real plothole or anything. I just chalked it up to Mob's empathy (which has always been a strength) combined with his psychic powers gave him the impression that something was bothering him. But I thought there was some deduction, I didn't really get that he was there for the whole flashback.
Overall though I'm not a huge fan of the show. The animation didn't disappoint so I guess I'd watch another season. The development of powers wasn't really impressive of interesting to me.

It ain't a plot hole, but you can feel it rushing itself. It feels like something is missing from a story. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but it hurts the episode and it is something that can be easily patched up with only a minute or two more stuff.
It was great overall and Bones did a good job porting and remixing of the writing works just fine,it just stumbled on the final stretch and the only thing I can really blame for the rush is them not deciding beforehand to have the final episode be a 45 minute special or something to that effect.

Well this was shit.
S1 was nice because everything was kept vague and mob was a retard.
This "character growth" ruined everything.

In the alien contact story, which comes right before the finale, it is made clear that Mob can't do telepathy.

Mob doesn't grow into new power, he's just like Saitama. He only learns to grow into a sheeple who lives in a society, which feels kinda off for a hero. Truly a moralfag with a hard on for socialization over individuality sounds more like an idiot with a gun, than the hero we needed.

>he's just like Saitama.
Disagree. Saitama knows his power, what it took to get it and what it represents. He's never in doubt of wether or not use it, but rather has a made up opinion (often mature) of where it would be applicable to do so.
Mob however gets on my nerves. The right answer to having power is knowing how to use it righteously, embed related.

I'm consistently more impressed by CS Lewis's essays than novels.
