Was Gundam IBO supposed to even be a Gundam series? Besides the fact that IBO has been absolutely garbage for hundreds of reasons including low quality animation, terrible characterization and writing, a plot that seems like it was made up in five minutes, a terribly mismanaged setting, terrible mecha design, and of course obnoxious fans and the people who claim this is good despite never watching any Gundam before (and if they have it was Wing, SEED, and/or OO), the entire show just feels like Sunrise had some non-Gundam mecha anime screenplay or idea but they then decided to make it into a Gundam series in order to fill in the gaps between Build Fighters Try (which was awful in its own regard) and Unicorn ending and the releases of The Origin and Thunderbolt. Does anybody else get that feeling? Like I seriously believe that the only reason Sunrise turned this mess into a Gundam series was to get people to watch something they otherwise wouldn't watch.

The original big four comprised of the original 1979 TV anime (which can be substituted with the 3 compilation movies), Zeta Gundam (this can't be substituted with the A New Translation movie because of different endings), Gundam ZZ, and the Char's Counterattack movie. These four are must watches in order to understand the core of the franchise. Everything else after that is either late UC, an early UC OVA, or some AU and can be watched selectively. The Gundam F91 movie is okay despite being based off a condensed cancelled TV anime, Victory Gundam is okay too. 0080: War in the Pocket is one of the best OVAs there is. 0083: Stardust Memory has some gorgeous animation but it falls apart in the second half. G Gundam is a "so bad it's good" super robot show disguised as a Gundam show. Wing is known for introducing the West to Gundam and is okay despite a sorta mismanaged second half. Gundam X is considered by many one of the best AU shows however your results may vary. 08th MS Team is Platoon with Gundams and an awkward Romeo and Juliet story shoehorned into it. Turn A Gundam is an anniversary series that ties some of the previous series together. SEED and SEED Destiny are considered mediocre, especially SEED Destiny, due to the director and writer and their shenanigans involving voice actors and character favoritism. 00 is the first Gundam series to be split into two seasons, and many consider season 1 to be great while season 2 dropped the ball on a lot of things but is still an okay series. AGE was doomed to fail due to splitting the series up into 3 parts each taking place decades between each other and having a protagonist of the third part be insufferable and stupid while the antagonists are cartoonishly evil. This is what happens when you let Level 5 collaborate with a TV anime. Gundam Unicorn takes place after Char's Counterattack and is praised by many but it does a lot of questionable things with the story and characters that leaves a bad taste in most people's mouths. Gundam Build Fighters is Metabots with Gundam model kits but its incredibly well written and well done. Build Fighters Try takes this good show and shits all over it and removes anything and everything that made the original so fun to watch. Thunderbolt is an alternate UC OVA series and The Origin is an OVA series covering the manga of the same name. And finally IBO is a pile of shit like AGE and SEED Destiny.
