I guess in the third bubble it should have been 'ok?' and not just 'ok'.
Man, I can't even translate two words without making a mistake. Back to trying to learn Japanese.
To elaborate:
>歯ブラシなくした
歯ブラシ: toothbrush
なくした: nakusu (to lose) in past tense
>1ファースト 歯ブラシ貸してほしい
1ファースト: 1 first (in furigana): so their names are number but it's in English to make them feel like names but well it's lost in translation, unless you change the name for Ichi or something.
歯ブラシ: toothbrush
貸してほしい: kasu+hoshii: to lend + to want
so the sentence should have been something like 'I'd want you to lend me a toothbrush' but well, limited place in that bubble
>いいが
ii ga: yes, but: so she says okay but wonders why she asks that, so writing just 'ok' was wrong
>ありがとう
arigatou

I have a TL question:
>朝ごはんは 3人で食べといたから 問題ない

>On top of that, you have slim waist, and your body curves are showing~
>これを飲むと 出るとこが出る
>If you drink this, you'll make body curves
>出るとこが 出る!?
>Make body curves!?
'(make) body curves' is an unnatural-sounding way of putting it in English so I want to change it, but I barely have a clue how the literal meaning of the phrase relates to what it apparently means. The only thing I can think of is that the とこ is short for ところ, meaning 'place', so the phrase says something like 'the coming-out place is coming out'.

>I took it to mean "The three of us" when adjusting the line for that panel.
That's partially correct. By saying "three of us", you do not explicitly state that Fourth is being left behind, that phrase can be taken to mean that First could have eaten breakfast with two of all other three girls in her group, Second, Third, and Fourth.

>phrase says something like 'the coming-out place is coming out'.
Indeed, that's what you get from translating it literally. The Japanese is being inscrutable again, so I had to take some liberties in interpreting those lines.
>いいなー しかも腰は細いのに 出るとこは出て~
If you read the context, what she was doing it contrasting her friend's slim waist and big breasts. That's where I get the idea to write "body curves". It's more like saying her friend is trying to make a hourglass figure/ボンキュッボン out of her body, but she's still halfway done.
You should also notice that many of the gags within the book is playing with the fact that the clones are too naive to see multiple hidden meanings within the actions and utterances of other people, perceiving other people's statements as literal truth in Japan and taking logical, albeit unwise actions according to their limited cognitive perceptions.

>If my hunch is right, there are three people in the group, each doing different tasks.
Yeah, raw provider isn't me.
t. typesetter
>Are you a translator? Or are you still learning to translate?
That was me again. Still learning to translate---I would not attempt even a manga with furigana at this time.
Given that she's contrasting her friend's waist and breasts, I'd word the line as
>On top of that, you have a slim waist, yet your body's curves are showing~
The other lines:
>これを飲むと 出るとこが出る
>If you drink this, you'll make your body curvy
>出るとこが 出る!?
>Make your body curvy!?
For brevity, these lines could even be "…yet your curves are showing~", "…you'll make yourself curvy", and "Make yourself curvy!?"
Now to respond to this:
>I see that you've changed several lines significantly on page 10.
>Tell me the reasons why you did this. Notice that I've made a change in the guidelines within the new TL file.
>遅刻は 関心 しませんが その髪型は 悪くないですね
>I wouldn't worry about you being late, but that hairstyle isn't bad.
<I wouldn't worry about being late, and that hairstyle isn't bad.
I removed the 'you' because I figured a sentence beginning with 'I wouldn't worry about …' represents the speaker putting herself in the listener's shoes here, so it has an implied ending '… if I were you'. That would make the 'you' in the original translation unnecessary. Also because the original Japanese doesn't include a 2nd person pronoun or the listener's name. If it did, I'd have worded it as 'I won't worry about you being late…'
The other change I made is replacing 'but' with 'and'. I did this because my understanding of the conjunction が is that it doesn't strictly correspond to the English 'but', and the two parts of the sentence seemed to be talking about unrelated things.
>きっとみんなも 少しずつ変わって いくことでしょう
>Someday, every of you will change, gradually.
<Someday, every one of you will surely have changed.
I took this sentence as the teacher speculating on what will happen at some future point, and the tense that 'will have …' can be used in that way.
The combination of 'gradually' and 'someday' sounded odd, because if the change is gradual then it's difficult to think of it as happening in just one day. So I put in 'surely' because the word きっと appears.
This sentence, I'd say that I screwed up. The wording I used doesn't account for 少しずつ (which I assume is the reason you had the word 'gradually') and the combination of きっと at the start and でしょう at the end is what seems to give this sentence its hypothesizing feeling, a nuance that I completely missed.
I got overconfident about my Japanese skill. So from now on I won't make such drastic changes, at least not without running it by you first from now on. I apologise for overreaching with my translations and changing stuff too greatly when it was not my role to do so.

An aspiring translator is always welcome. It feels good to see more people learning Japanese. Keep it up. If you do try to translate manga, I'll be glad to assist you.
By the way, when did you start learning? Are you a native English speaker?
>On top of that, you have a slim waist, yet your body's curves are showing~
>If you drink this, you'll make your body curvy
>Make your body curvy!?
I prefer these lines. Good idea.
>>遅刻は 関心 しませんが その髪型は 悪くないですね
>Also because the original Japanese doesn't include a 2nd person pronoun or the listener's name.
It's implied in her line.
>If it did, I'd have worded it as 'I won't worry about you being late…'
This one is good too.
>The other change I made is replacing 'but' with 'and'.
Fair enough.
So we can settle on this line.
<I won't worry about you being late, and that hairstyle is good too.
>きっとみんなも 少しずつ変わって いくことでしょう
Keep my original line.
>The combination of 'gradually' and 'someday' sounded odd, because if the change is gradual then it's difficult to think of it as happening in just one day.
That's logically valid.
However, translators are expected to replicate the original meaning of the source text as close as possible into the target language, even if the source text does not make any sense. Deliberately changing the original meaning of a sentence is a violation of translators' code of ethics.
I'm saying this as I am a translator who once had his salary cut for trying to correct one of his client's papers.
Exceptions still may apply if the nuance and original intentions of the source text can be replicated better by changing some parts of it e.g. puns or adages. Notice that I changed some lines on page 9, I believe you should be able to figure out the changes I applied and the purpose of me doing so.
>I apologise for overreaching with my translations and changing stuff too greatly when it was not my role to do so.
Don't apologise. In the guideline I wrote in each TL file, I've given the clearance for typesetters to proofread my translation. This is because I don't have any proofreaders helping me in Fullchan. In contrast to my real life, where I have a proofreader whom I've worked with for months in the same company. I've became accustomed to rely on him to the point that sometimes I forget to proofread my own work.
I simply did not expect to work with a typesetter who is studying Japanese, but it certainly helps to have someone that can point out the possibility that I probably have made a mistake on a deeper level of understanding.

Since Number 1 is speaking, is this meant as "We'll run together"? I only noticed this just now.
>By the way, when did you start learning? Are you a native English speaker?
Three months ago. It was actually just after I typeset Kiniro Mosaic Volume 8, as I wanted to do more like that and also have a more active hand in the process. To be honest I'd like to be a one-man team someday, that's just my temperament I'm a native English speaker.

Translation question about Page 23:
>パンツで 外に出ても それがパンツ じゃなければ 恥ずかしく ない
>Even if you go outside only wearing panties, they stopped being panties, so you shouldn't be embarrassed anymore.
I can't make sense of this line in either Japanese or English. Under what circumstances do panties stop being panties? I'm thinking about alternate possible meanings for this line but I'm getting hung up on what それが is doing in this sentence.
>Even if you leave with your panties on the outside, if you're not wearing panties only, it's nor embarrassing.
(Not confident that it means that, because the meanings of the で, に, and も particles are very stretched in this interpretation. There's also no word in the Japanese sentence here that means "only".)
>Even if you go outside only wearing panties, if the panties are removed then it's not embarrassing.
(Interpreting パンツ じゃなければ as "If the panties do not exist", but I'm not sure about that either)

TL anon, this one has some changes that were bigger than usual.
>食べながら 聞くから
Original: We'll listen while you play.
Changed to: We'll eat while you play.
This change was because the 食べ was not accounted for in the original English and I assumed that was a typo. I hope this change is acceptable. Only just now did it occur to me that it's more like "We'll eat while we listen". Whoops.
>それから 「正直者はバカを見る」 という諺もあるので 覚えといてください
Original: And then, there's this proverb saying "The honest makes himself a fool in the art of living". Please take note of that.
Changed to: And then, there's this proverb saying "The honest person sees a fool". Please take note of that.
I can't see how 「正直者はバカを見る」 becomes anything other than "The honest person sees a fool", and I find it difficult to make sense of "The honest makes himself a fool in the art of living". I made an effort to search for relevant proverbs in both English and Japanese and didn't find anything for the original English wording here.

"The honest makes himself a fool in the art of living"
I don't think that is difficult to understand. It makes more sense to me than "The honest person sees a fool".
Besides, the meaning changes. In the original proverb it is clear that the honest one is the fool while in the second is other people that are fools. The first one is more adequate for the joke.
As for the musical joke, I think both " We'll eat while you play" and "We'll eat while we listen" are adequate for the context.
Besides this, good job with the translation.

Every time there's a big panel on a page with only one 4koma, which is in a 2x2 grid, instead of two columns of 4komas, that's the beginning of a chapter. So 89.jpg from >>79575 is actually the first page of chapter 12. The previous two pages, I assume they're just some kind of divider in the whole volume.
The folder divisions in the uploaded raws have nothing to do with the chapter breaks, I'm pretty sure.

Translatorbro posts in this thread so I might as well ask here before making an ass of myself by creating a thread and waiting for people to nod (I also considered posting in the Buy Thread but I choose this one).
Let's suppose for a moment that I were in "possession" of COMPLETE, good quality scans of a certain manga, said manga was object of many practical jokes for more than a decade, jokes that would often have "NEVER EVER" as a punchline, mind you, said manga is nothing extraordinary or shocking, it is still pretty unknown in the west, but it's considered a classic. Now, what would happen if I were to release them upon this board? What would people say?
Having said that, let's now suppose that I were to propose a translation project of that certain manga, which would need a translator, a typesetter and some proofreaders, moreso, such a project would be completely voluntary and non-profit i.e. the aforementioned team would do it for-no-monetary-compensation, nothing would be gained except for prestige and maybe more notoriety for the manga and other works from the author, which may or not may lead to the licensing of such a work/s in western countries. Considering that, what would happen if I were to propose that? How would people feel?

The kanji-eye clones tend to talk really casually (except Five) so consider throwing in a lot more contractions and such.

Not 100% certain but I think this is an ongoing reference to the combative attitude kanji-eye (Four) showed in panel 2. She's talking like a delinquent, who're famous for picking fights with other schools to see who "owns" the school/turf. 中 would refer to a middle school.

Christ, I can't make sense of which pages belong to which chapters. Volume 2 has a chapter guide (pic related), but volume 1 doesn't. From the guide, we know that the last chapter in volume 1 is chapter 18. Chapters are also an even number of pages long, commonly 8 or 10, sometimes 6 or 12.
The arrangement for volume 1 has been fairly clear until chapter 10, which was the end of the last batch of translations. Chapter 11 starts at page 79 and ends at page 86, though you could call the end at page 88 to include the almost-blank pages. Working backwards from the end of the volume, chapter 18 is pages 151--158 (8 pages). I'm fairly sure that chapter 17 is 141–150 (10 pages) and that chapter 16 is 131–140 (10 pages). I want to call the pages from 119–130 (12 pages) chapter 15, but am even less sure about that one. That leaves pages 109–110 (10 pages) as chapter 14 and pages 101–108 (8 pages) as chapter 13. Then pages 91–100 (10 pages) are chapter 12. That'll have to do for now.
This leaves a range of pages in the middle unaccounted for---but they can probably just be considered omake pages as per >>79963. What I'll do is I'll upload the four pages from 87 to 90 as chapter 11.5 on Mangadex after uploading chapter 11.

If two people said the pun didn't work, I might just use the original translation and explain the あげる meanings in a TN.
What I meant with "giving it up" was something like those two quitting the food, like how someone might say he's giving up smoking. Or the notion of someone giving up without a fight. The only reason I'm not editing my translations to the side of the pages anymore is because this, together with World of Moral Reversal, seems to have a greater following and dedication from the community, so they are pretty much guaranteed to be typeset.
I initially started editing pics with translations, all the way back with Torako, because I was pretty much sure they wouldn't be typeset and wanted to make it easier on the reader. But if some people find it critical that I start doing it for Number Girls as well, I'll get to it.

Those evacuation drill puns on page 3 were pretty hard, but I thought of something. The acronym can be CHOP, standing for things to not do:
>don't chatter
>don't hurry
>don't obstruct
>don't push
Then the next panel can have two of the girls memorise "don't chatter" and "don't hurry", with the other two girls thinking "chopsticks" and "pork chops". The same puns can be reused for page 10. It preserves the joke about the acronym making Third think of food, and the chopsticks bit is a nod to the original Japanese too.
I wanted to think of something using the word "critical" for the title of page 2, but I couldn't think of anything.

Translator anon, I'm confused by your numbering scheme. In >>85514 you have 15-07 and there's no 15-08. That would be the sole departure from chapters having even numbers of pages. On top of that, your chapter 16 goes all the way up to 14 pages, which would also be the only time I've seen that. I'm quite tempted to just stick to the allocation I put up here: >>82826

Another odd saying that only got odder due to the way slang works. こう見えて looks like the opposite of こう見えても, which means "even though I look like this", and normally it should be. However, just like how people these days say "I could care less" when they mean "I couldn't care less", こう見えて still carries the こう見えても meaning.

TN: I probably spent more time researching this (and found no good answer) than translating these pages. No word spelled "masaru" uses use the kanji for "dog" (犬) or the similar kanji for "big" (大). I think Masaru (as a proper name) might be written with 大, but haven't found that in any name dictionaries, it's a hunch from having heard that somewhere before. "Masaru" also means monkey, so maybe Second is just very very stupid.

Luckily, I was too lazy to see your original post, so it all works out!
20-04
The whole thing (including the title) is a bad joke, so I'll write what I know, then provide a suggestion.
In slang terms, 小 (small) and 大 (big) are similar to "#1" and "#2" in English- they mean "piss" and "poop" respectively. It's a classic joke that the book A Dog of Flanders is often misread as A Poop of Flanders because 犬 (dog) and 大 look similar to young readers.
This old joke is changed here because Second somehow misreads 犬 as "Masaru" (a rare way of reading 大) instead of the more common "poop" misreading. She somehow both missed the difference in kanji and read it in such a rare way instead. The title is therefore referencing the joke.
All of this is impossible to explain without some notes.

>A Ma... Masaru (monkey?) of Flanders?
<A Ma... Masaru of Flanders?
>Dog. I guess that's not such an uncommon mistake?
This is that use of the negative + question mark also seen in the recent chapter of World of Moral Reversal (there, it was まずくない?).
<"Dog." Isn't that mistake harder than the usual one?
<TN: Instead of the common children's misreading of "Dog" as "Poop", Second misreads it as the name "Masaru".

Nice, that's the kind of stuff I don't even know how I would find on my own.
Maybe we should make it straightforward and ignore the nuances for the TN. That would require a non-literal translation of the title, but I think it preserves the joke.

The last comment would have to be changed since the mistake would be the usual one instead of something weird. I'd prefer keeping the joke at its original "You Must Be This Japanese To Get The Joke" levels, but maybe the typesetter and other readers can pitch in and come up with some ideas.

TN: the joke here is that tsukeru (つける) is the verb used to describe "putting" your face in the water, but it also means "to apply", so the girls applied water to their faces. I used the word "cover" (not in the original text) to help the joke make sense.

Mummy removal
>{Title} Mummy removal
TN: A reference to "ミイラ取りがミイラになる" / "If you take a mummy, you will become one". The history of the phrase is all over the place and not worth going over, here's a link:
https://biz.trans-suite.jp/8605
Basically it means becoming your enemy. The closest English version I can think of is Nietzsche's quote, "Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

<If we look only at the possible outcomes of this game, "victory", "defeat" and "tie", the possibilities are split in 1/3 for each.
<However, when it comes to clones you can't take that at face value. When playing this game, if we don't think about anything, then the chances of a draw are 100%...
=3==========
<In short, If we're not thinking about anything, then in normal circumstances if I throw "rock" then certainly Seventh will also throw "rock"...
<In this case, I should play paper... But what if this is a feint, is it going to be scissors then? In that case I should deliberately play rock... Wait, no...
