IMO, it's a valid medium of creativity, but we don't have a community for amateur literature as we do for amateur illustration (e.g the Draw Threads are often contain fan art and maybe OC character designs, but not much in terms of plot and characterization). The quality still varies heavily but for the latter there's more encouragement to improve.
But if written form doesn't belong since there isn't the anime/manga influenced art style, and directly anime/manga influenced writing doesn't cut it as explicitly fanfiction of a series, I can understand that.

I heard they were complying with takedowns from certain US media companies.
I didn't notice it until I started writing my own fanfiction, but there seems to be a debate whether fanfiction is transformative work and fair use (legal) or copyright infringement (illegal). Hence why I signed up on AO3.
I don't think anyone really cared before since fanfics were amateur writers posting for free, so that all stayed in a peaceful grey zone. But nowadays there's companies wanting to make extra money, by monetizing it. They may not actually have the right to do so, unless they create a concensus that fanfic is derivative work, ergo their right to take down, publish, or use for commercial purpose.
It sort of reminds me of the Skyrim paid mods deal, except, in this case it's way less diplomatic to the community.

It's rated T, and Gen for "no romantic relationships that are the main focus of the work".
The setting is a scifi dystopia where the AI government controls the artificial wombs to a skewed female:male ratio such that the human population is incapable of independently reproducing itself. It's also a barren planet without a woods to go innawoods in and raise a wholesome offgrid family. So of course everyone is going to be slightly prison gay, that's kind of the point.
