I'm looking to make some music, and I've decided that sample based is the best way to go. So I'm wondering what is some good sample based software.

There are lots of free VST's that will load samples... many of which are free... but you need an actual DAW to load the VST itself. If you're on a budget, then Reaper is an extremely cheap and good quality DAW with a very generous licensing program. I think it's around 60 bucks. Start there, and then go to bedroomproducers to find some free VST'S, samples, and other junk. Also MusicRadar sometimes has good stuff.

Reaper is very, very good for the money.

I too would like to hear everyone's experiences with various DAW's. I've been using Pro Tools , but it's a very basic version from years ago. Thinking of upgrading. Maybe Sonar?

I've dabbled with a few DAWs. FL Studio is my general go-to, primarily because I'm mostly musically retarded and the piano roll is a big help when I'm piecing together songs. Ableton Live is powerful and in the right hands could do some cool shit, but I never got the hang of it. I also enjoyed the shit out of Mixcraft, and I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a more "natural" sound to your instruments without having to comb through plugin resources. Finally, while it's not a DAW in the traditional sense, Audacity can be used to surprising effect if you're solely using samples for your music, but I've only ever really utilized it for quick and dirty last minute audio mastering.
