Post whatever music you're making in whatever programs you use.

I make original 8bit music in Famitracker using the VRC6 chip. Embed related, should I upload more? I'm trying not to show off so much, any constructive criticism?

I know literally nothing about music theory, but hey, I've been at it for two years now, so I guess I'm just self-taught.

Sounds like something that should had been in some awesome NES games, if you've been doing this for only 2 years and learned music theory yourself then you did a great job.

It sounds pretty good, OP! The only thing I would say is that in order for a song to be memorable, it has to change its pace sometimes, otherwise it all sorta blurs together. But what do I know, I've never studied music theory or even know how to write music. I just type on my QWERTY keyboard in virtual piano until something cool sounding comes out, like this.

OP you're pretty good, but do you have the toolset to do something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_rii4KE4pQ

or

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SefxmOv-88M

Retro is neat but it won't fit everything.

>be moi

>have no musical talent whatsoever

>at the same time have turbospecific taste, wouldn't enjoy making music unless I author 100% of the input

>actually start with synths instead of DAWs

>waste some time creating murmurs, growls, wails etc. on harmor for no other reason than self-indulgence

>suddenly hdd dies

R.I.P. phrrrrrrrrrrrrrfffzzz, I will never forget you. Or recall how to make you.

btw you guys know of >>>/musicprod/? That board deserves more traffic.

https://copy.com/xJhRUWtKbidqjqHz First song in LMMS. Mostly teaching myself chord progressions and how to make songs that don't sound like nails on chalkboard or otherwise just plain awful.

Does anyone know if there's a plugin or something to give LMMS the ability to fucking undo? It's a great program for me, but that one crucial thing is what's really burning me when rearranging things sometimes.

plz forgive me I used the overly common I-VI-iv-V progression

Crosspost from the progress general.

I've been emulating Shoji Meguro's (Persona 3, 4, Catherine) non-vocal style, where the music works both in game and outside of game.

Mainly learning by listening.

This is my best/least shit work so far.

Loops around the 3 minute mark.

i had no idea putting my shit out there would be so god damn terrifying

Incorporate faze-shift in that lead, try a 200-1 ratio...

Also is modarchive.org down for you too?

It's dead, Jim.

It sounds pretty good anon. I like that percussion. Keep posting stuff.

>"know literally nothing about music theory"

That's kinda understandable. Most basic music theory mostly deals with harmony rather than melody, so people with basic music knowledge are on not so different grounds as you when dealing with tracker music (I don't say it doesn't help, but it's not as essential). Later, learning counterpoint and orchestration helps a great deal.

I'd suggest you study some theory so you can get a better understanding of your "options" when you're composing, rather than just trying lots of things at random. It will help a lot.

anybody know of some cheap-ass MIDI controllers? I don't mind minikeys or synth action keyboards too much, though I'd still prefer full sized keys

cb19e0 (2) No.25325

>>25201

The Monoprice ones seem nice and cheap enough.

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=606607

Apart from the MIDI port, you can just connect it from USB, so it should be comfy to use.

If anybody has some experience with those, I'd love to hear them

Is there a way to make money from making music soundtracks for indie developers?

I think it'd be fun.

9a8839 (4) No.26160>>26166

>>26127

Yes. Do commissions like everybody else.

I'd pay you for a soundtrack if you were good.

I'd be willing to drop $100 on a single decent loopable generic background track.

I do like the sound of that. I'm making something Classicvania-inspired, so I'm looking for something higher-energy, with a classic Castlevania feel. For this particular game, I'm only looking for a single background track, as it's primarily going to be an engine.

Nice, I started making games because I loved Megaman (nes) and its music, I am currently making a sort of megaman inspired game, the music there is pretty kickass, I make it in Modplug tracker,

been making music for 12 years now, I think I got the basics down at least, and I'm also self taught,

now that I think about it I dont have a soundcloud or youtube where I have those tracks...

Anyway I use:

- Modplug Tracker for 8bit and 16bit music

- Ignite by Air, for the more "realistic" tracks.
