I'm making a twin stick shooter in which you're trying to climb to the top of a 100 floor tower. Random floors are strung together in line and the player fights through them in a gauntlet. I'm trying to go for a really fanciful aesthetic weirdly enough. There'll be four playable characters who are each based around a different playing card. The overall plot is simple. A giant tower appears in France and rumors begin to circulate that who ever reaches the top gains one wish or desire. Naturally each playable character has their own reason to reach the 100th floor. Here's a link for a couple of the bosses: http://www.mediafire.com/download/nmze5uk2grsscdo/Tour_du_Fantastique.zip

Keyboard controls:

WASD - Move

Arrow Key - Fire in that direction

Left Shift - Shield

Left Shift + WASD - Dodge into direction

E - First tier special

R - Second tier special

F - Third tier special

Tab - Pause

Escape - Quit

Anon, this looks pretty fucking radical so far. The 2D/3D mix is absolutely beautiful, all of the bosses felt unique, and the concept itself has a lot of potential. The only problem I noticed is the perspective feels weird which makes shooting/dodging surprisingly hard, this would probably be better if you added a shadow on the player. Other than that this is awesome, keep up the good work.

Thank you, and yeah perspective has been one of the trickiest things about the game so far.

I played it but i was bad at it. Maybe add a crosshair? I cant really tell where my bullets will end up when i shoot diagonally because of the perspective.

I recorded myself playing it, if that helps.

How does this feel? Maybe it should be more like a straight line or something. I'm not sure.

This was definitely an improvement, shooting horizontally was a lot easier because i could get an idea of the range that the bullets have, and i could sort of see where the vertical bullets were going- but its still quite hard to hit things with horizontal bullets.

I can get past the first part of the boss easily now, but the second part is hard because I have to constantly move and shoot, and its just hard to aim and move, even with the crosshair, since hes constantly shooting at me. I think something like having the mouse control shooting angles would make the shooting feel way better, if thats not too difficult to do in unity.

I also cant dodge, whenever I hold shift it just activates the shield instead of dodging. Maybe you could make it so that if you double-tap a movement key you dodge? Or bind dodge to a diffrent key?

this is the rest of me playing, i really dont know what to do to avoid taking damage while also dealing damage. Is there a specific way to beat him that im just missing?

diagonal bullets I mean, horizontal and vertical bullets feel really good in this version.

I'd been toying around with the idea of making the aiming mouse controlled. It wouldn't be difficult at all to make in Unity. As for dodging, you need to press left shift then the direction. If you're moving and press left shift you're just going to stop and shield. I wanted to prioritize the shield over dodging, but dodging in general just doesn't feel quite right yet.

Here's how it plays with mouse controls.

Im not sure how to use the mouse controls. the keyboard shooting works fine but I dont know how to make him fire towards the mouse.

That's strange, it should be working fine. I assume you're left clicking to fire. Could you post a video of what's happening?

That was my dumb fault, sorry. I uploaded a bad file, and it wasn't anything. This should be the new one. Give it a shot.

I beat him this time, that was really fun.

I think the only issue I had with the mouse support is that it feels like the sensitivity is lower when you're shooting horizontally and then higher when you're shooting vertically. But it really makes a huge difference, and the game feels really nice when you can shoot like that.

I think you did a really good job on the game itself, like the first anon said. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

I really should update this as I go. It's come quite a ways, and I'm almost at a point where I would feel comfortable putting out a demo for it.

Downloading the demo...

>but what really lies at the top of this mysterious tower

I think this line shouldn't be in the game summary...

If there's not what is promised on the top of the tower, this sentence kinda foreshadows that this is a possibility.

Plot twist or no, I think It should be implied wherever it's possible that what's on top of the tower is the wish granting thing, since that's what supposed to make the characters and players want to reach it anyways, at least in the beggining of the game.

I can't replicate what you're talking about. Could you tell me if it happened again?
