Howdy folks. Fa/tg/uy writefag and wee/a/boo here. After a few years of saving up and writing, I've finished the script for a 150,000 word kinetic OELVN called Deirdre, My Blade - a story about a man who carries a cursed weapon, that curse being that the weapon is a sentient shapeshifter who deliberately finds the most violent and murderous ways to "serve" her master, much to the detriment of his livelihood and the safety of those around him.

Picked up enthusiasm and after some IRC snowballing, a Dev blog was made: https://deirdredevs.wordpress.com/about-this-vn/

And now we are recruiting damn near every position with the exception of lead writer. Script editor, project manager, programmer, illustrators, voice actors, composers, animators, translators - you name it, we need it: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=32658

I expect to be funding development out of pocket and will be releasing the...er, "game," free of charge. At most, I might set up some kind of tip jar for donations for anyone who wants to help me offset the costs of production, but only after completion, or at least the release of a demo.

That's about all I've got for now. If you can help out and this seems to be the kind of thing that would interest you, drop me a line - I'm RotGtIE on Skype, Steam, and Lemmasoft - and even if you personally don't have any skills to contribute, if you know someone who does, I would appreciate any referrals. I'm just a writefag readying up to bridge the gap from here to "developer," and I could really use all the help I can get.

A lot of progress has been made in the past month and a half. We've filled out our team and they're doing great things. There's still a ton of work ahead, but things are moving along at a strong pace - I expect to have a demo released sometime in the next couple of months.

Planning for voice acting is very tentative at the moment. With a target market of weebs, the very notion of English voice acting is a hurdle to overcome in and of itself. Quality is the primary issue - any failures in voice acting will either ruin the immersion for the readers or cause them to turn off the voices, which would be a tragic waste of resources.

The budget's pretty tight at this point, so I can't assure myself that I'll be able to afford voice acting of an acceptable quality. The matter of there being adult content also cuts down on recruiting ability, as well. I don't even know what the going rate is for voice acting in a non-commercial VN, but there's a whole hell of a lot of lines, so whatever it is, I can see it adding up quick.

It's a tough call, and I'm probably going to wind up making it later on, when the project is a lot closer to being finished in all of its other assets. I'll have a much better idea as to what resources are at my disposal and if I can pull together the number and quality of VAs I'd need to make it worth the investment. So active recruiting for VAs, if it happens, will have to happen then.

We've filled our position for a composer at the moment, but maybe I'll have something for you next time around. If this thing winds up being reasonably well-liked following release, I've got a couple more plans for VNs and one JRPG I'd like to write and produce, and they don't involve sexual content, so the funding will be much easier to handle.

Another update, and we're just about done with the initial designs. We'll soon be able to get some in-game assets produced, and hopefully be able to get a demo out in the next couple of months. We'll have to see how progress goes before we can put out an estimated release date for that, and for the final product.

At the moment, we could really use an editor for the script. We've gone a long way in production since it was written, but the draft is still languishing under the minor corrections and revisions I've been able to make since finishing it. If anybody out there can do a professional copy-edit on a script, I'd be interested to work with you. OP here. We are again opening recruitment for the project, as we have entered into in-game asset production and our needs for additional illustrators are becoming apparent.

Anyone who can match the style established by Sendo (https://deirdredevs.wordpress.com/2015/12/01/deirdre-designed/) will be sought for the production of sprites, frames, CGs, or background illustrations. Most of the initial designs are complete, so what's needed now are these assets.

Sendo is still on board, though he won't be taking the position of lead illustrator. He'll be primarily working on his other projects, but in the meanwhile he's providing design and background work for DMB as needed. In the meanwhile, Jyuusango has stepped in as our lead illustrator. His painterly style is noticeably more westerly than is the industry standard, and I think it's been working out very well for the setting. He's very skilled and professional in his work ethic, so asset production for the project has easily gotten back on track with him taking the lead.

As much as I'd like to be able to give an ETA for a demo, I don't want to break any promises either, and so I'll hold off on giving exact or general release dates until we're closer to being able to release something real for consumption. What I can say is that we have almost everything we need in our working prototype - we're mostly just filling in our placeholders with illustration assets as they're produced. The OST is complete and the SFX are underway, so the bulk of what needs to be finished are the illustrations and the directing documents for the remainder of the VN following the demo.

When we get closer to having most of the assets finished, I'll try to pin a demo release date down to a month. At this point, it's hard to say, but again, the good news is we're mostly filling placeholders in a product that is playable and almost complete in functionality.

Rot here. The project is once again actively recruiting, this time for an English to Japanese translator for the script. Given the content from the main story as well as some of the extra features, we'll be looking at a task of about 170,000 words in total.

If you have or know someone with this kind of skill and an interest in the project, I'd greatly appreciate any contact you could provide. Though I'm willing to work through a more formal business, I'd much prefer to give those in the indie scene a chance when and where I'm able.
