So i'm curious. Does anybody have any articles or pictures of how incontinence or adult diapers were handled a long time ago? Incontinence and diapers aren't something that just appeared. How would incontinence be handled in the Victorian era or in the early 1900s until say the 1970s?

I imagine it has almost always been cloth diapers that were used.

Thats what I think too. But I can't find any articles or pictures of it. Plus how do you exactly find an article for this?

I remember seeing some research paper about incontinence mentioning that Europe handled it in a pretty pragmatic way where they made tools out of things like moss and animal skins until the Victorian era created the stigma. Meanwhile, in the ancient Middle East, incontinent women were seen as being cursed and were exiled to the desert.

There are still plenty of ABDLs around who recall having been incontinent in the 50s-70s, and from what I recall hearing, it was generally handled with rubber pants, cloth diapers and terrible physical and mental abuse that was encouraged by society.

I remember reading that upper class Victorian women would often wear basic cloth diapers without covering under their complex dresses due the difficulty of removing them during social engagements, though that might have changed when crinolines became popular

I may be misremembering but I seem to recall that before toilets and running water people would just go in chamber pots wherever they were. It's where we get the word "potty" from.

I distinctly remember hearing the Palace of Versailles supposedly smelled like shit.

We need more 50's abdl stuff, especially girls.

Just imagine…

>smiling domesticated housewives on TV commercials talking about how they never have to worry about bathroom breaks while doing work around the house

>husbands tenderly changing their wives' diapers in public

>teenage greasers strapping their girlfriends into high chairs and feeding them ice cream at the local malt shop

>Bettie Page and Marilyn Monroe modeling the latest plastic panties and those fancy new disposable diapers

I might just write some vignettes/commission some artists myself because I think it should happen

I got a book when I was in 5th grade called "Poop happened" about bathroom related technology, practices, and so on through the ages. I'll have to look at it for some details, but I remember it saying that sometimes a servant would hold a large sponge under the lady while she took care of her business. It had a section on diapers too, but I dont remember much from it. I still have the book, so Ill post more later.

I'm pretty sure that this is New York. I believe that this photo shows a store selling work diapers for women. During this period of time, Women were being employed en masse to be seemstresses for the second Industrial Revolution but were given very few labor rights. They were not permitted breaks for the bathroom, and were forced to wear diapers. All that nonsense went away when about a hundred women died when one of the New York Might-as-well-be-Sweatshops burned down and the women couldn't escape because they were locked in the room by their boss to prevent breaks.

I do not recall the finer details, this was a blurb told to me in High School History Class.

Calm down son, you got your point across. Now that we've established that it's satire, let us fantasize about women back in the day wearing short skirts and cloth diapers. But to raise another point in your favor, the time frame

is referring to predates the fashion worn by the woman in the picture by at least 15 years.

So far so good, I love the inclusion of the disposable aspect too. Like this whole diaper thing has been going on for centuries and just now, like in the 50's, disposables are a thing.

Also glad that the first scene is a wife telling her husband she needs a change while in the kitchen. Was the exact scene I had playing in my mind when I imagine diapered 50's housewives.

The disposable thing came about because there was this major cultural thing in the 50's that I like to call "Golly-gee-whiz, SCIENCE!"

It seemed like everything, especially consumer products, had to present itself as a major breakthrough. This new appliance isn't just a convenient way to was dishes, it's the culmination of human society as we know it. Everything was "modern", "scientific", "new technology", or some other buzzword.

Sometimes it was subtle, which is why I went with the more understated approach with a celebrity. Sometimes it was so earnest and dorky you couldn't help but laugh.

During the medieval time people was not so hygienic. They use to bath once a year and so. I assume people that hade incontinence back then just let it came when ever it came. When society got a little more concerned about hygiene in the 1700-1800's a guess they start using cloth protection or something similiar to modern cloth diapers.
