Some men have had very successful transitions (if we're measuring success by how feminine they look in the end). I actually know one personally who passes very well, and she's still taking steps to look even better. I think the issue is that some of these people are just mentally fucked and the transgenderism is only a small component of it. They don't groom or take care of themselves so they can never hope to achieve a feminine look, no matter how much estrogen they pump into their systems. They might have a shot if they committed to a weight loss program and shaved their legs now and then, but that'll never happen.

I've been to Thailand a few times and ladyboys over there are often very hard to tell from actual women, but I figure that's because they're more socially accepted and actually take care of themselves the way you'd expect a woman to, not to mention most of them have been working towards looking feminine since before they hit puberty, as opposed to the Western norm of transitioning after reaching adulthood.
