Unchecked gynocentricism. It's not like female nature changed in the past hundred or so years. Men would also act like children and get everything they wanted, didn't have to take personal-responsibility and had all major institutions catering to them without any societal demand for personal-responsibility and sacrifice.

Girls of the old were really charming. It feels like they are avatars of combined hopes and dreams of all virgin losers of Japan. They are angel-like celestial objects, who are created to be worshipped. Modern girls are more like tools to make men feel good. They are lewder, more approachable and so plentiful, that you can use them as much as you want without any restrain.

Retro girls were the finger, modern girls are the whole hand the otaku took.

Very little has changed outside of artstyles. We have new archetypes but all the old ones are still around.

I don't know how to describe it, but for me old girls feel different from modern ones. They are more fresh, honest and sincere. You can feel effort behind them. You can still see such girls in modern anime, but they are a lot harder to find and mostly populate anime for children.

Anon, how many mecha shows have you watched to make statements like these? While there are some crybaby pilots for sure, most of them keep persevering even in the most dire of circumstances. You gotta make judgements based on your personal experience with the genre, not on assumptions or hearsay.
