The manga is largely as bad as the anime, most of the meaty parts of it is simply completely skipped over, Rommel stuff starts in September 1925 in volume 3 IIRC.

I personally thought the show was good and really fun to watch and saw it as a relatively fresh take on the Isekai genre largely due to the play on the classic "MC has a special power in this world that renders him invincible" by using the time travel gimmick with an added twist of grimdark suffering. The suffering device was particularly well implemented as a means of character growth, by which MC was brutally forced to outgrow his traits of being the most extreme fuckup of all time. I also thought the characters were interesting and endearing, and that the show was generally well-drawn (barring QUALITY at the end).

And did I mention the zetsubou? All those consecutive episodes of comfy shenanigans where everything seemed like it will be okay, only to end drowning in despair? Yes, it was zetsubou well done. And the star attraction of the show.

I did have some gripe with the "political" part of the story as it felt disjointed and introduced too many characters that were never expanded upon. The show would have been a tighter package if it were more focused on the personal struggles of MC & Co.

I think the director must have thought this as well. I don't think it's a coincidence that the franchises are introduced with Konosuba being the first one on the screen followed closely by Overlord, Shoujo Senki a bit later without an introduction and the Re:Zero cast is running late. There is a lot of personality between the three franchises and more than enough to carry a premise like this alone, while the Re:Zero characters feel much blander and out of place. You could say Shoujo Senki is out of place as well but that one is so out of place that it loops around to being funny again.

Aside from maybe the initial premise of the isekai MC being denied his OP power, Konosuba isn't really a parody of anything. It still plays a lot of isekai tropes straight, it's just primarily a comedy. I think most people call it a parody just because we're so used to fantasy taking itself so seriously most of the time.

Well it does invert some tropes cliches like having Slime creatures, who are associated as a Lvl 1 monster(thanks to Dragon Quest) as the most powerful and dangerous monsters, the main character is now the weakest member of his party, and constantly dies even against weak monsters, or how he has the same name as the "legendary hero from ancient times", but Satou is one of the most common names in Japan, the noblewman is actually a degenerate masochist, and so on.

If anything it mostly pokes fun at RPG/game cliches(like the slimes, or how powerful beings live in the beginner town), and could be called a parody of RPG games, but since most isekais also happen to take place in an RPG like world, then as an after-effect, becomes a parody of them as well.

In any case, up to the 4th Youjo Senki LN, and I have to say that it's significantly better than the anime. The raid on not-Moscow and its after effects cracked me up. That one picture with the guy putting a branch in his bicycle's wheel, but with Tanya's face and "curse you Being X" is so incredibly apt.

You can't expect much from a 10 minute anime with a cast this big. Standard comedies usually introduce 3-5 main characters in the first 20 minutes, then introduce less than 5 side characters in the next 40 minutes. It's impossible to rush through the initial interactions and greetings without making it unnatural. There's just way too many characters. If this thing got 20 minutes per episode then maybe the plot and comedy would already kick off.

Kazuma likes to bitch a lot but he still has 3 OP party members at his disposal, 2 of whom want his Chunchunmaru, and that he makes use of frequently on the rare occasions he actually has to fight monsters since he obtained the superpower of money early on.
