Tachibana should've fucked Yuuta senseless until he gave up on Yui.

 No.915382

>>915375

The manga is an adaptation of the WebComic.

The original WebComic end is as follow:

Just after Yui and Yuuta changing back to their original bodies, they reverse again at the hospital, and Yui dies in Yuuta's body. Then Yuuta, in Yui's body, continues living, and having a child that is implied to be Tachibana's.

That's not what they decided for the manga ending, though, because the original ending simply crushed and destroyed the hearts of everybody. You can read the original ending here (ending apart, everything else between Manga and WebComic are exactly the same).

It seems you're still at chapter 49. The currently last translated chapter is 63.2, which is the penultimate one, so, the last manga chapter hasn't been translated yet.

>Cute romance edition!

I happen to be an expert on this subject.

Undine of the Desert World

A town in the desert barely survives on the water magically produced by a girl called Aquarea. It is discovered that she can produce much more water when she experiences intense feelings of love. Shenanigans ensue. Very innocent with absolutely no sexual undertones at all.

Oni no Youna LoveCome

Hot-tempered delinquent fights to protect the smile of a kind-hearted girl.

Kusuriya no Hitogoto

Not a romance, but still cute. Skilled pharmacist girl serves as a maid and food taster in the imperial palace. Lots of court intrigue.

I'm not sure if this one has been posted already, but it really is quite a find that I came across recently by the same mangaka who did forehead bully. Imagine what it must be like for her knowing that every drop of water she drinks for the rest of her life will come directly from her crush's relationship with another girl.  No.916361

>>916355

イチャイチャ is the onomatopoeia for being lovey-dovey, flirty. It's basically the thing insufferable lovebird couples do. I'd say it's a decently close translation.

 No.916365

>>916355

"PDA" in the English is short for public display of affection.

I don't know any Japanese so I tried to just puzzle through as best I could because I'm just curious if it even gets me on the right track.

なに - Not sure what nani means here. Maybe an exclamatory the same way we can use "what!" in English?

イチャついて - flirting

んだ - This construction seems a bit tricky to translate in general, but I think here it denotes that the speaker observes their actions to be flirting.

よ - is one of those sentence-enders that adds nuance

I guess it would be something like "What, [those two] are flirting...!!", so basically what the translation says.

More or less. The human body isn't meant to digest seaweed, the Japanese just have an extra set of marine bacteria in their guts due to the diets they've had for centuries that makes it easier to digest it. It's basically the same as milk and Caucasians in that their bodies are able to digest seaweed better than most. I'm sure you'd find similar quirks if you looked back at various civilizations and the more "survival" foods that they ate native to their region.

A few episodes of this, sure fine, but once the premise is established to just keep recycling it ad nauseum with nothing ever changing is pure hell for him.  No.918063

It's not a matter of doing it faster.

When you're releasing periodically (Hatsukoi Zombie, ch. 162) and then someone jumps the gun and translates the last chapter only (ch. 167), then we can only assume that the guy was a spoilerfag with anxiety problems and lack of respect.

The Boku Girl affair was the same - translator group was periodically releasing and then some faggot speed translates with shit quality the last 3 (or was it 5?) chapters. Readers simply rushed to the crap, as another sign of disrespect to the translator group who wasted time and effort to release quality translating and scans.

Do you remember the Tumblr group on Mousou Telepathy? Same thing - their translating was sloppy, with no redraws or cleaning.

If you accept this level of retardation, you're only lowering the bar and discouraging groups from doing good jobs, by prioritizing speed over quality.

 No.918108

>>918063

>The Boku Girl affair was the same - translator group was periodically releasing and then some faggot speed translates with shit quality the last 3 (or was it 5?) chapters.

It was far more than that, if I recall correctly, and the translation scripts he used were someone else's. He admitted it was scummy, but all the same, the faggot(s) who were originally doing the translation slowed down so fucking badly that the series finished long before they even hit the halfway point. Their releases were glacial and nothing special in terms of quality. To make things worse, the translator insisted on doing live TL threads because he desperately wanted immediately e-peen gratification without the work of typesetting and proofing.

Other guy comes around, finds TL scripts that cover dozens of chapters, and says "fuck it." and personally cleans and typesets the numerous chapters that the original fuckwit was taking his sweet time with. Everyone reading Boku Girl was actually happy to see the series updating again, but then the original guy spazzed the fuck out and started demanding every website remove the new chapters. He didn't want to admit he was being a petulant faggot, so he switched from claiming that it was his property and no one else could touch Boku Girl, to insisting that he didn't want the series besmirched by an incomplete and rough translation that may make it look bad, and also something about disrespecting the author.

Moral of the story is that you don't get to sit on a series for years at a time and then demand that no one else touch it without your permission first, because that's not how this fucking works. High quality, lovingly made scanlations do take time, but no group or individual who takes up such a project gets to declare ownership or undisputed rights to work on it. Either you want people to read the series or you want someone to suck your e-peen because you're a narcissistic cunt.

I recently got done reading Oyasumi PunPun. It was a good manga, and it explored some areas very well. I think there is more that could've been done with it, and a lot of very important scenes were cut out of it, but overall it was good. The subplots also detracted a bit from the main story I feel, and the time could've been better spent exploring more into PunPun's life. The subplots just felt like they were there to move the story along and fill some pages, especially with how drawn out some of them would be, taking up a whole chapter just for a speech and such. It got me a bit angry while reading it, not at PunPun, but just with the interactions that take place, and some of the characters presented. Along with the actions taken by the characters. I can't really say I felt much besides some anger while reading the series, but it was still very good, and I think it is a very good read.

>>918062

Gotta agree with this anon. It's one thing if we're getting an incompetent MTL and in such cases I'd wait (otherwise I'd be learning Japanese to go around the problem entirely), but plenty of MTL faggots take advantage of the "respect among translators" fact to put out absolute garbage, so that even if a good translator wanted to translate something, they won't pick it up. Then you have, at least in the LN world, groups like "J-Novel Club" who are absolute bro-tier about not sending a notice to take down a future fan-translated chapter until their team officially translates it, and yet many TLs flip shit over this fact because it means they have to translate at faster than a snails pace or give up their source of shekels.

>>918063

Who cares if someone releases it before your group? I'm sure many anons read their manga on websites that weren't approved by the TLs or even just flat-out torrent them when they're available. It's not like they're doing it for shekels, and if some group IS doing it for shekels in the form of "donations" than they deserve it anyways. Perhaps the clusterfuck that is the light novel world has ruined my perception of TLs, but the only thing keeping me from just learning Moon and reading my own manga is the barrier to entry that a TL presents and when it's a periodic release that lets me discuss it with /a/non like Maou-jou de Oyasumi. TLs should grow a thicker skin and be prepared for these sorts of things. The majority of their readers don't care who translates it, they simply wish to consume. The threat of a spoiler should be enough that if they're translating periodically anyways, they should have a couple chapters pre-prepared for release so they can fuck up the spoilerfag's plan to spoiler. A TL of entertainment-based Japanese media instead of technical documents will always be an entry-level TL, plain and simple. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you're translating "entry-tier" material, you have to consider that other people might do so too. TLs don't have a copyright on translating material, they just found that sweet spot where the barriers to entry are high enough that others can't go around them but low enough that everyone's "unionized" within their TL circle and agrees to their words. That's how cartels form and how you get faggots who throw their own shit into the TL because they know that no one else will translate their work due to cartel-like hostility of outsiders and the fact that they can threaten to drop their project.

TLs need more competition and to grow a thicker skin, they don't need a fucking union protecting their feels like you're describing, anon.

The only "bar lowering" is considering TLs a protected class that isn't subject to others learning Japanese and doing a passable job. I'll support the TLs I like until the end of time, we've got a few right here on /a/, but if someone is releasing a slightly shittier translation at 3x the speed I'm not going to hold some sort of loyalty to them and wait for their chapters to get released.

I'm by no means an expert nor a native speaker, so please do take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Look up a few typesetting guides, like Anonblack's, they should give you a very good idea of how things work. Try to clean the original sound effects and replace them with a more fitting font suiting the situation. There's also some glaring contrast with where you cleaned the speech bubbles and where the paper begins, I recommend just cleaning out the entire speech bubble to pure white. With that out of the way, I think your translations themselves look good and broken off at the correct places. The only thing that I can note here is that you missed a few commas, but that's what proofreaders are for anyway.

If you purely want to learn Japanese while translating, I recommend joining a team instead so you don't have to learn how to edit, clean, letter and redraw.

Better to use the Levels tool for this sort of thing. It might be tricky with a poorly-scanned, pencil-drawn manga but a reasonable compromise can be found. The Idiot's Guide to Editing Manga is old but it has a decent explanation of the concepts behind cleaning.

About the quality of Tonikaku Kawaii, I should say things are cute and whatever, and that there's an underlying plot out there, but so far things have been going in a direction that contemplates only mundane daily life.

Knowing him by Hayate, he hates to rush things and likes to develop the plot at snail's pace like that (I like it too).

Thank you very much!

Unfortunately most of the cleaning was done by the original creator so there isn't much I can do about that, in fact I cleaned very little aside from the typed text he had added on top of his scans, but I could try and tidy the edges and re-clean the bubbles where he left non-white space. Although I have to confess I cheated on a few of the textboxes where he drew the outside borders crooked and I struggled to fit in the text neatly. Here are some examples of the original where you can see the hard edges on the cleaning.

I'm glad to know that my translations are decent enough though, there were a lot of places were I felt that perhaps I'd reread the text too many times and lost track of how to phrase the line properly, so thank you. As for joining a team I'm not sure if it's possible as my schedule is often very erratic. I can sometimes have a few days in a row with a surplus of time to practice translation or I could go months without really having the luxury to sit down for a long time, but I guess if all I needed to provide was a text file with translations it wouldn't take very long. Perhaps I'll see if there's a group that might be interested in working with me. I'll check for commas and tidy up the non-cleaned textboxes, then I might put this on mangadex (previous translator stopped working on it a long time ago).

Even worse, some of the more faggy scanlators may drop it entirely if someone else starts sniping it, and now that series has switched from good translations to shit translations permanently. And the sniper is less likely to be committed to it so the entire series may be dropped.

 No.920464

>>920437

They could at least have the decency to give the scanlators a heads-up, like "if there's no new release by your group in a week, I'll make one." Instead they just jump right in there with Google Translate and MS Paint and act defensive when people call them out for it.

 No.920470

>>920437

There are a few reasons depending on the situation. In most cases it's impatience, where there's a good reason that the main group is taking long enough that they can be sniped in the first place, but the sniper just slaps a script on the first shitty watermarked raws he can get, and doesn't even bother to centre-align the text or use a decent typeface. In other cases it's just because normalfags love community drama. But sometimes it's because the original translations are doing a shitty job, intentionally delaying for no reason, and so on.

If a scanlator and sniper are both competent there are only four results:

>the original group stops and moves on to another manga, while the sniper becomes the new main group, meaning nothing has been gained (since a once-a-week release is once a week regardless of whether it's the day after the raws or four days after) and the manga is left with shifts in things like typefaces and translations of specialized terminology

>the original group moves on, but the sniper soon gets bored and drop it too, meaning the manga is dead in the water

>the original group keeps going, while the sniper gets bored and stops, and it's status quo ante

>both groups continue, wasting skill and effort that could be spent on an untranslated manga instead

Only one of those is non-negative.

If the sniper is less competent than the original group, then it only serves to clog up lists and notifications with poor quality releases.

I think a large part of the reason snipes happen is because people seem to forget that manga is a visual medium. It's supposed to look good, and snipes almost universally look worse than the releases they are sniping. I blame normalfags, for whom talking about the latest chapter on reddit or wherever is more important than enjoying the work itself. We may talk about manga here, but that's not WHY we read it.

I confess to having made shit-tier translations with minimal Japanese knowledge.

I only do it for hentai, only if it has gone untranslated for at least a couple years, and only if it is either a oneshot or part of a series whose translation has been dead for years. I try to be sure that I only touch things that would never get done otherwise.

I don't rely on MTL like Google Translate though. I break it down into grammatical elements, find possible meanings of each element, then piece it all back together manually. There are a couple sentences I later realized I fucked up and regret posting (and I'm sure there are more I don't know about), and there have been works I've set aside midway for lack of confidence, but at the same time there was one case where I got partway through a translation only to find I'd overlooked a pre-existing real one, and it seemed like I had gotten everything right.

It's good that you're aware of your limitations, but that's still not okay.

You should just like learn Japanese. Or if you dekinai just ask Anons for help. We have the scanlation thread which I hope becomes a regular feature, and requesting a translation for something like a doujin in exchange for doing the cleaning/typesetting would probably help it become one. In fact, one Anon actually did just that.

 No.920505

I know I should. I actually enjoy learning grammar too, and I'd be tempted to look into Japanese even without the incentive of media. But I also know that I suck at and hate memorizing vocabulary, and that doing so for Japanese would be far worse than the French, German, and Latin classes I've taken.

As for help, that wouldn't do much good. Any cleaning or typesetting I can do, the person translating could almost certainly do himself anyway. Part of how I picked which to do was how easy they would be to clean. And I wouldn't ask someone else to translate them anyway, because they're nothing special. There are just so many doujins out there that most will never get translated no matter what.

>The TL was incompetent and on a high horse anyways so nothing was lost whether the sniper continues or drops it

>The TL has a thick skin and translates it regardless, and might even take advice from the sniper's translation

>The TL and sniper end up working together and distribute workflow E.G. "You do chapter 51 while I work on chapter 52 and then we can both release weekly while giving readers more material without any extra effort on our part"
