In fact, what even happened to Mao? Now that she's not technically the Demon King, does she still have all her magic? What was even making her such a threat to the world anyway? Was she just going to go berserk as she regained her powers? She only revealed she was the Demon King in a spergout to save shit girl Meigo. She didn't show any signs of actually wanting to destroy the world.
I don't want to nitpick the plotholes of a comedy anime but really that conclusion came out of nowhere.

They could have played it for laughs if the solution was completely dumb and out of nowhere, but it didn't feel abrupt or silly enough to achieve that. It didn't come across as funny, but more like the kind of asspull you'd see in a battle shounen.
Hell, Mob Psycho managed to pull a funnier twist with Reigen's self-defence rush and that's not even mainly a comedy.

Any other ending wouldn't fit this story. Chibi is essentially the writer/director self insert to solve the problem of writing yourself into a corner. Overall this show was really fun to watch. It did exactly what it said on the tin, be a cute girls doing cute things in yukkuri style covered in adventure sauce. Mao was the hero of the story. Sei and Mao would be excellent brides. Namori deserves a reward for the character design. It was deliciously lewd and equally cute at all times.

This was a great show to start the year with, the way Mitsuboshi Colors was last year. I could have done without the princess myself, but that's just me. Mao was really fun, and if I had to pick favorite adventurer, I'd have to go with Blue-gi-yoh, as her autism was only matched by the overlooked lewdness. I mean a split skirt, with the hole in the back (I didn't see a tail), tne garters and the ao pantsu? If there's no doujin of Blue, there's something wrong with this world.
