What compels authors to do this? Are they terrified that fans will hate it if they do the unexpected and make First Main Girl lose, instead of following along with the standard progression? Do they want the better girls to remain "available" after the end for the sake of fan attachment? Do they find it appealing to watch a good girl's romantic interest fail?

It just seems strange that so few authors change it up. If nothing else you'd think there would be more doing it simply to be unusual and stand out for having a "twist ending". Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso o Kasaneru was good but it wouldn't be half as memorable if Botan hadn't won.

That kind of ending is about par for this level of work. I dont remember much about this series other than lolimom being the whole reason to watch. Between the two romantic interests though I think black was better than orange.
