So, over the holidays I finally watched that show and I loved it very much (been postponing this since March).

Chizuru is so adorable and I am glad she and MC got along so well.

That fireworks scene was simply beautiful but I hoped they were not both so uptight.

However,

I know there is a manga of this. Did anyone already read it?

What I wanted to ask is if the character backgrounds are better explained there.

I mean, the show was only 12 episodes and I liked it very much. But the end just felt so rushed.

The other thing is, we don't see much of MC and Chizuru after they officially find to each other.

We also know nothing about Chizuru's past. Even the eternal 2nd girl (volleyball team) got more background than her.

In addition, I feel like some characters did not get enough air time.

For example we know practically nothing about the handsome guy and his neet brother.

Or we know nothing about the 2 friends of the volleyball ace. Or the both mentors at the experiment.

My suggestion is that the mentors might be former NEETs as well.

I felt like it was a very nice story and in March I will have time to read the manga.

Did you see ReLIFE Kanketsu-hen? It's four more episodes that finish the story. Definitely find those if you liked the original 12 episodes.

As for the manga, it was originally a phone manga (meaning it's read as one long stripe), so reading it in its original format can require a little getting used to. It got released in normal tankoubon form as well, if you prefer it that way. Personally I felt it lost a lot of its charm halfway through but don't let that stop you from reading it yourself, that's just me.

Yes of course I know the 4 episode OVA. But I did not like it that much.

The anime was 12 Episodes from April to July (Japan celebrates fireworks in the end of July IIRC).

Then this OVA comes out and in 4 episodes they go from September to February.

It felt very rushed and I wish they had taken more time to do a proper 2nd season.

Especially the end scene felt very weird with an abrupt stop right after they embrace each other again. But I am so glad they found to each other again and I wonder if this was the work of the newbie coach girl.

I will read the manga in March. No need to be worried anon.

Read the manga and yes it does a good job of fleshing out the side characters and while it does seem to drag a bit after the fireworks like>>895437 but I was glued to ever release and, anon, all I have to say is I literally cheered when I read the last chapter.

I'll agree with you that the 4 episode OVA was a letdown. I felt the supporting characters were dropped for the main character story focus and lost a lot of the charm. Then ending of the original 12 episode run felt like there was more to come in the next term but it felt run of the mill and it treated it like all the supporting character problems were resolved. I could guess the ending even before being shown it but I wanted something better leading up to it.

I just read the mango, it was pretty good despite looking like those gook comic strips.

Still it was a 6/10 manga I might check out the anime, but the nature of the pill sidelines the side characters HARD.

Marathoned it. Liked it more than I should. Comedy is straight forward with characters that are defined and easily understandable. I found myself getting into the drama too like in Hibike where even though it doesn't become ridiculously high stakes you still ponder about the few mysteries that are present. Animation isn't some kyoani production and at times reminds you of classics like Akikan but it feels heartfelt, sorta like NHK where the direction makes all the difference.

Though it maybe it was relatable because I can relate to being a complete deadbeat loser.

Thanks OP for recommending it. Probably wouldn't have watched it without this thread.

As usual, the manga is way better. If you want to finish the story then chapter 106 or so is where they left it.
