Anime starts on January 12th and is actually looking decent despite coming from the shitters at A1. What does /a/ think about this series? Anyone here hyped for the upcoming campfire chapter?
No.889914
It's a fun manga but adaptations are always a gamble. PVs can lie too: for example, the Disgaea anime PV looked a whole lot better than the anime itself did. So go with "cautiously optimistic" and give the first three episodes a watch next month.
No.889916

That’s what I’m planning to do. I simply don’t trust A1 with doing a faithful adaption even if the director is solid (same guy who directed Rakugo for Deen). Also the main VA choices are stupid, especially for Kaguya given how popular the manga is that they let a total newbie voice her.
The manga is still fun for me so even if it sucks I won’t be totally dissatisfied unless Kaguya ends soon.
No.890011
I like Kaguya but that's precisely why I'm not going to get excited about something like this. I hope it will be good but I'm not exactly anticipating anything. The art style in the manga is very strong as well so I'm doubtful about how it can translate to anime.
As for manga there has been a shortage of good chapters recently, which is what usually happens when you avoid focusing on the main characters.

That makes some sense. Most of the story is internal monologue and there's relatively little real action or movement, so they shouldn't have much trouble keeping costs down. If they had a large budget to start off with, they could easily have a surplus to use for multiple, well animated EDs.

No.903455
>>903443
Budget is probably the main issue. I think there's also a limited range of applications rotoscoping could be used for. For mundane SoL and more wordsy types of shows you don't need fancy animation in the first place, and for action shows often you're dealing with fantasy elements and stylized animation where trying to emulate real life actors' motions would be either inappropriate or just downright impossible.
No.903459
>>903443
Probably a lack of training in rotoscoping/ a lack of production materials too. It's harder than you'd think to take the life like motion while maintaining the animated character. Of course this varies depending on what you're trying to convey. As for the material side you need a space, props, actors, a live action director, a camera crew, and more depending on how complex the scene is. Typically more trouble than it is worth at this point.

To be fair, Kaguya would be the ultimate wife if you happened to be Miyuki as she was reading books on how to get twins after hearing that he wanted to have 9 children. That takes some hardcore devotion. Fujiwara can be surprisingly motherly as well, but like you said she has her crazier side and you can never trust a politician. Iino can be cute and is clearly sexually repressed, but despite her weakness to sweet talk dealing with her could be tiring as fuck. Hayasaka is clearly the best option, since she has delicious weak side starved for affection despite her numerous talents. She's also loaded as fuck personally, so provided you could waifu her no financial troubles.

Seeing as Kaguya has particular fetish for Miyuki's sleep depraved killer glare and latter is addicted to working it would not be too hard for person of Kaguya's caliber to goad him to daily marathon sex. However rather than Miyuki, it would more likely be Kaguya who would collapse first since she canonically has weak constitution. Not to mention she's so pure that the mere after-effect of being dere'd hard by Miyuki left her weak enough to require hypnotic triggers just to cope without fainting. She would get desensitized over time, but between marathon sex required to give birth to 9 kids and her adorable autism, Kaguya's future will be tough.

If I saw a field of flowers, my reaction would be to appreciate it as a whole, and I'd reject the idea of picking more than one or two, if even that many, as destructive against the field as a whole. A bouquet or vase of plucked flowers is a different kind of beauty than a field of intact plants anyway.
I would have thought the culture that came up with the practice of hanami would feel the same way, instead of wanting to rip the flowers off the plants and take them home.

Legitimately laughed out loud a lot at this one, and I don't laugh a lot just watching anime by myself. I fucking hate the localization they did for the chinchin part though. Maybe if it was like a one-off gag I'd forgive changing the context just that one time, but when the entire skit relies on wordplay and you end up rewriting the entire scene you really should be ashamed of yourself as a translator. I miss TL notes.
>>908438
They play an instrumental ripoff of You Spin Me Round in the background. Aside from the chinchin connection I don't get why they would do it or if it really even is a meatspin reference but it was very overtly meant to sound like the song so I can't think of any other explanation.

I wouldn't have made chinchin "weiner".
Leave it as chinchin in the subs, put a TN for what it means and for anything else that isn't obvious from context, like the fact that the dog trick is also called chinchin.
You aren't going to be able to translate wordplay from a different language no matter how hard you try, unless you're really incredibly lucky and the same connotations happen to exist in the target language. And if my goal is actually to translate, then I would sooner explain the joke than try to come up with my own joke, because I'm a translator, not a joke writer.

In that case, the localization wasn't killing any "cultural trait" since it was done merely to be consistent with an already acceptable translation of "ochinchin" as "wiener" and it was done so that the screen wouldn't be loaded with TNs. I also complained at first, but when I saw the impracticality keeping the translation in line with the original, I decided that respecting that Fujiwara was talking about "how to say "cheers" in Italian" was of negligible cultural significance in this context.
