You could explain the loli bath scenes with that, but there's no way that the fanservice of Kamoi's abs would have been too much for TV. Yet they cut that too and turned it into an unattractive joke.

I'm enjoying the show, personally, but it was a mistake for them to visually sanitize this as much as they did, given the actual content.

That kind of thing isn't really censorship, so much as a reinterpretation of what the series is supposed to offer. The anime didn't simply tone down the fanservice the manga had, it changed its purpose even where the content was nominally the same.

And it's not a simple "loli=bad" issue like certain posters would have you believe. It applies to all of it.

I actually thought the ending was really good. We had a touching and mature look at dealing with grief and loss in the pedo maid show. Not what I was expecting. Really improved my opinion of the show. I enjoyed it more as the series went on, mainly because Midorin was the most fun.
