This show didn't inspire me, but I've always been a campfag. You don't need a canister stove unless you're planning to camp during a rainstorm and most proper campsites have free-to-use grills. Camping the American way (backpacking down a trail, finding a campsite wherever looks comfy, then using rocks and sticks you scavenge to make a fire) is more fun anyway. Cooking does get more difficult, but really, everything tastes way better when you cook and eat it outside. I'll never understand the people who want shit like pancakes, eggs, and rice while camping. Way too much hassle for what you get.
My go-to is meat, vegetables, and bread. Wrap the pre-spiced, pre-cut meat and vegetables in aluminum foil packets, then simply heat them up near the fire til they're #roasted. Rip off a hunk of bread, impale it with your stick, and turn it into toast. There's the old standbys of hotdogs, nonperishable food, and pretty much anything you cook in a pot too. When I was legit homeless it was almost entirely vegetables and raw-men noodles.

That actually sounds pretty good. I could get salami so it'd 100% not spoil. Any combos you particularly favor? I'm thinking maybe something like big chunks of onion and bellpepper. French bread for sure, though. Sounds really good...

I actually did, I had to bug out anyway to avoid uncomfortable circumstances so I decided to camp for a week in late may/early june. Took a couple hour drive in unseasonably hot weather, nearly dying because car has no A/C, finally arrived to the site and got my first warning sign -- dozens of dragonflies in the sky. Despite the grounds being snow-free for a mere two weeks yet, there were clouds of vicious mosquitoes and man-eating flies greeting me every time I left the tent. I had to carefully plan my tent entrances and exits because I would end up spending up to 20 minutes killing these bloodsucking bastards every single time. By the end my face, ankles, arms and back were marred with bites that would take months to go away. I would camp in ten feet of snow before doing that shit again. And yeah I was using deet, the only thing that really kept the mosquitoes off me was smoke from the fire, until the rain put an end to any hope of me starting a fire again, used up all my matches anyway. Also the nearby town sucked and all the women were fat and old.
Got a lot of reading done and lost ten pounds which I regained anyway, fuck camping.

Here
Just got back from a short camping trip! It was supposed to be a two-nighter over the weekend, but the place we stayed (lake hemet, california) was supposed to have a low of ~38F (4C)- with wind chill, last night actually got down to ~19F (-7C) on the edge of the lake, where we were staying. I wanted to stay another night, but the people I went with just did not have the warm equipment needed. In the morning a friend boiled some water on the stove for some coffee. After he poured it into his cup and shook the coffee mix in, the cup tipped over, spilled on the table, and instantly froze.
Still, it was fun. We made a little camping version of thanksgiving tonight before leaving, just with instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix from a box, gravy, etc but the carrots/potatoes/corn we roasted in tin foil over the fire and they came out very well.

Could the stove you have actually simmer well enough or did you have to stir the soup a ridiculous amount? Snow peak makes nice silicone cooking chopsticks too, and they're cheap. Just bought some last week and my buddy's fiance used them to cook earlier and they got her full approval, so I gave that set to her.

The multitool is steel but has a little carbon fibre to save on weight or maybe just to look fancy for marketing. It's very useful although I haven't needed to use it for much besides manipulating alcohol stoves, opening bottles, and cutting cordage down to size. I like how light it is because I can keep it clipped into a pocket while I'm in camp without worrying that it'll pull free and fall out under its own weight. I also have a bigger knife in a plastic clip sheath for heavier duty like cooking or doing anything knifey in rain. I wouldn't want to baton with it like Rin does with her big one but I have a light hatchet for get-your-own-wood sites.
I've found the Snow Peak pan's handle very sturdy but I suppose that if the little metal clicky bits lost tension then it might give out. Mine is only a couple of years old and hasn't done heavy duty. I hope it will stay OK. Snow Peak is usually very good quality so I don't think they'll disappoint me.
The stove is a single-piece fold-down thing made or at least branded by one of the major gas manufacturers here. I got it because it's light, self-igniting, and doesn't involve any tubes or other flappy bits that can puncture, get lost, or otherwise fail for stupid reasons, and it uses standard convenience store canisters instead of the special hiking ones that are required on the ones that support the stove itself. I definitely wouldn't use gas for longer trips but for overnighting it's just too convenient. I don't know how strong other stoves are but I've never had to turn mine more than 1/3rd up to get a nice rolling boil on ~750mL and a bit less than that to get a nice sustained simmer on the soup pasta.
