Now that I'm thinking back on it, we all argued about whether they drank wine or beer, or what they drank that night, going so far as to measure body weight and stuff. What if it was malt liquor? That would explain why they got as drunk as easily as they did and why they thought it tasted sweet.

It was carbonated. I've never heard of a strong liquor that's been carbonated. It's either a white wine like champagne or just a beer.
No.867297
>>867295
Basically all malt liquor is effervescent anon. It comes in 5.5-13% ABV depending on brand and could technically get a little stronger if left at room temperature due to the way it's made (as compared to beer). Malt liquor either tastes like gasoline if it's made cheap for getting drunk, or sweet and malty if it's made for sipping. To people who haven't had a lot of sweet things most of their life though, even the "fuel" variety would taste sweet to their palate.

Is there malt liquor that's actually good, or is it all poorfag hooch?
No.867314
>>867307
Depends on your definition of "good." If you like beer, I've found Olde English tastes alright (some anon insists on mixing it with orange juice). A lot of people will say Mickey's is good, but Mickey's is closer to tasting like an IPA than to tasting like malt liquor. Pabst makes a decent malt liquor called Schlitz. Dead President doesn't taste bad either, but they insist they're a "high gravity beer" even though they're malt liquor.
Malt Liquor CAN taste good, but you have to understand that malt liquor has a bad reputation because it's mostly drank by inner-city niggers and it's usually sweetened with either artificial sugars or corn syrup. It's mostly made by the major brewing companies like Miller and Anheuser-Busch who don't care about quality control so long as it doesn't taste like copper tubing/rubbing alcohol. The few "craft brewer" malt liquors that exist are very good and are indistinguishable from a good beer, but since they also go bad more quickly, the vast majority of liquor stores are only going to stock the sort of malt liquor that niggers and poorfags come in to buy before a night out (or niglets come in with a fake ID to buy for school the next day). I recommend all anons give a 40 (that's 40oz) of Olde English High Gravity a try at least once, and have a shot of whiskey (preferably maple whiskey) to mix it with if you hate the taste, it will make it easier to drink even if it doesn't improve the flavor much. It's like two or three dollars for a bottle of it, and you won't feel hungover from it unless you're already dehydrated when you drink it. It's definitely poorfag hooch though.
Polite sage.

I read the manga in raw some time ago and missed the ending thread. I thought the manga ended in an open ended way when they reached the last layer for a week because the site I got them didn't have scans of the last volume when I downloaded.
It was great and I think the manga is totally a better experience. I disliked Yuuri in the anime at first but in the manga I liked her a lot from start to end.
Also the fact that they meet an intelligent life form or AI in the long arcs of each volume except the last one where they only have each other is genius. In the anime the lines between Kanazawa, Ishii, Empathy robot and the mushrooms were not that clear watching weekly. They all appear in 3 chapter arcs at the end of volumes.
And the way last volume ended was amazing, not as the ending itself but the way they reach there. Starting from Kettenkrad they keep losing everything that's dear to them, until all they have left is the endless sky and each other. I think that's probably the best ending this story could have.
>>867566
That part is mostly anime extra, but probably got advice from the mangaka. In the manga they mainly watch the 3 school girls and the parents talking with the baby while warlike scenes are just in the background, then it ends with Yuuri saying the same things.

Wasn't there some speculation that Yuu was white and Chii was asian? It would make sense to me considering their features. The fact that they wear slightly different uniforms I always thought meant they came from different warring nations and them being the only two people left in the world was a subtle commentary on the futility of the war when it destroyed the whole world. Of course that theory doesn't really explain how they were living together with grandpa as kids.

There really isn't much to speculate about. Just looking at Yuu tells you that she is European. The fact that she handled the alcohol better too makes it even more clear. I don't think that they came from different factions though. The patches on their coats are the same after all.

Nicotine is mostly a stimulant. It leads to an improvement in seeing, hearing, and fine motor control. A so called "nicotine high" or "nicotine buzz" is caused by an increase of blood pressure and heart rate, leading to more energetic behavior.
Since the potatoes are shown generally less energetic, I would assume that they are not smoking normal cigarettes.

No really, pre-rolled cigarettes are terrible when you're out doing shit due to the fact they break and crumble. Papers and loose leaf don't have that problem. Also the chances of perfectly fine cigarettes in the aftermath of said apocalypse is pretty much nil.
No.874173

It really depends. As a soldier you can just carry around a pack of cigs in a watertight plastic zipper bag, which is what most of my smoking comrades did. Few of them bothered with paper and loose tobacco, especially when out on exercise, because it takes a couple minutes, and when you get the time to smoke, you want to smoke, not roll a cig and then only get to smoke half.
That, said, we had a couple rollers around, and they didn't fare bad either. I guess it's personal preference.
Potatoes shouldn't smoke. It's comfy, but not healthy. And only a healthy potato is a happy potato.

Not really, they hold out just fine even in extreme circumstances like >>874173 said, especially if you've got a soft pack. t. I used to smoke when I was in the service. Most hand rollers got themselves a cigarette case so whenever there was downtime they could roll some for later smoking.

The chapter name is 煙草 and if I remember right they mention grandpa smoking a pipe. Their hallucination is weird but I think it's just normal smokes, they don't eat much and are small girls so they probably got a big buzz and started seeing the people in the photo.
