Sadly I am not interested in two of the shows, and I have already watched made in Abyss. I am re-watching it, but every time I watch an episode and come here to talk about it all I can think about is how much foreshadowing there is in the show, and how it built up to the things going on right now.
MiA is best experienced without any knowledge about it in my opinion, so I fear that anything I write about it could potentially spoil it for someone.
I would like to talk about it after the final episode though, it's very interesting as a concept.

Never disappoint. Did Nanachi make people interested in furry when MIA was airing? He seems like that kind of character. Also it was quietly implied with what Nanachi said and the purple and black whistles lying around. He hunts and scavenges the dead bodies of the smarter and stronger cave divers, Riko and Reg are just so pitiful it isnt worth the effort. Reg doesn't even realize Nanachi is saying he could wipe them out in a few minutes.

I also really like how the ecoysytem makes sense. Energy enters the system throungh the field and from dead creatures falling down into the abyss. The goblets take most of the light and transform it into plant matter, which eventually dies and creates the soil the other plants grow on. Parasite plants glow on the goblets and use their height to spread the spores. The animals make a lot of sense too.
This entire biome reminds me a lot of a tropical rain-forest, even the humidity is correct.

Oh boy. All my life I thought "penultimate" meant something like "the absolute ultimate", meaning that there is definitely not another thing coming after.
Serve me right I guess.
So now that MiA is officially over, what did you faggots think about it? I honestly really liked it. The story is perfectly paced, there is no moment that drags on too long, no character that becomes annoying due to over exposure, and no artstyle that feels overused. Part of this is of course the nature of the journey. They can't stay in one place for long, because they will be either found, or killed (or worse). They can't stay with Ozen for too long, because she doesn't want them there. They can't stay in the narrow tunnels forever, because those are very vertically constructed and moving upwards to a "camp" after hunting for critters on a lower level would be impossible for half the team, meaning that they would have to split up, which would sooner or later be a death sentence. They can't stay long at the goblets either, because they are already straining Nanachi's hospitality with their mere presence.
It is expertly timed, no filler bullshit, no extra arcs, no unnecessary coversations or repetative exposition.
On top of that, the constatnly changing nature of their journey kept me interested and exited about what new things they would find, while at the same step you always have that thought in the back of your head. "Soon they won't be able to come move upwards at all". And of course that's not true at all. Riko couldn't move upwards, but Reg could. Reg could simply abandon Riko at any point. But he doesn't. The reasoning behind his decision isn't clear, but his mysterious appeareance and lack of backstory make him the perfect "pair of pants" for the viewer to put on and enjoy the story from his perspective.
Over all: it's really well done, and I am looking forward to January when season two is supposed to come out.

There it is. Its good so far but incomplete and really needs 26 or 39 more episodes to appreciate. There is enough world building to be done with the abyss, Reg, whats happening on the surface, and the new white whistle to fill 52 episodes. If the upcoming season is anything less than 26 I will be disappointed. This aired a while ago though and in no way is this a contender for AOTS at the time or AOTY. I refuse to consider glaringly incomplete works for such a title
>Nanachi
After that episode I can conclude Nanachi is a she that works well as a he but the abyss made into a but a is fine too. It doesn't seriously matter for the story anyways. Although pushing Riko and Reg together was priceless. Especially the "whats wrong with your penis?" line. I hope when this was airing someone made the appropriate edits to these Riko faces. Anyways, it was hard to watch the conclusion to Nanachi's background, mainly because Reg missed two parts not making her watch and not asking what he is going to do after Mitty is gone and she almost chickened out. Without a doubt Nanachi is going to kill himself or at the very least do dangerous things to threaten her life and pass it off as protecting.

You don't seem to understand how stupid and just thoroughly awful everything about this other village arc is. It's about fleshy blobs with tentacles (all of them, though none of them look the same so they're all just really ugly blobs with zero cohesiveness in design) doing things that make absolutely no sense whatsoever, speaking a language that they themselves say is fucking nonsense. Remember the whole thing about Mitty and her finally being killed? Well, turns out there's an identical copy of her in the village and Nanashi trades her life for it (and then Riko needs to trade her organs or limbs to save Nanashi, last I bothered reading). All three main characters act incredibly stupid, running off alone without even trying to communicate. There's some sort of moth princess of the village who knows something about Reg, but she gets largely ignored in favor of more nonsense about the fleshy blobs with tentacles. I would never have thought that finding a village in the abyss could be so boring and uninteresting.

The setting is interesting to say the least.
First off: it's obviously based on WWI. It has the central powers represented by "The Empire" and the entente represented by "The entente" or "the republics".
And this naming scheme is where my major point of confusion begins.
While the setting is based on WWI, it isn't WWI, yet at the same time it lends to many elements from WWI that some parts of it are just straight copied from history books.
Yet the elements that don't fit historically speaking are absolutely fantastical to an extreme level.
Why not use the real nations? You already have fantastical elements in the story. You could explain away all historical inaccuracies with "The discovery of magic and witchcraft changed that fact about history in some way".
I am not saying that the story would be better with the real nation names, people, cities or locations, but it certainly wouldn't be worse.
I like how they incorporated WWII designs into this WWI setting. It's fitting, since it's the year 1923 already, which would imply that the war has dragged on far longer than it did in real life.

Ok, this is starting to confuse my inner strelo/k/.
a) I really like the detail they put on those bayonetts
b) Read Clausewitz you uncultured salaryman.
c) The radio-communication is all over the place. In some lines they use "Over" "Rodger" and "out", in others they use "Jokai" or whatever the nips say. German has it's own, faily historical radio-language and vocabulary. It's super iconic. They used so many other German words, why not go all the way?
d) Battalions are roughly 1000 men in size, not just ten guys on skyskis. A company can range from anywhere between 100 to 300 men.
This would imply though, that the Battalion commander and his entire Staff took to the skies just to gain a better view of the battlefield, and then decided to push far beyond any AA cover from the ground. This sounds a lot like "Führen von Vorne", a tactic the Germans employed in adherence to the teachings of Clausewitz, which dictates that to lead a unit well a commander must see the battlefield with his own eyes and not rely on inaccurate, delayed and possibly falsified reports from his own men. I highly doubt though that a Battalion commander would, in any situation, use his squad to engage any enemy position. His entire squad is made up of officers, and advisors. They are there to protect him in case an enemy identifies him as a high ranking officer. Using a Battalion command squad to engage an enemy, however small, is stupid and you deserve to get blown to bits for that.
I like what this show is hinting at though. Throughout WWI there were many recorded cases where children would attempt to join the army to fight. Some managed to fake their date of birth to get in and actually died in battle before anyone managed to find out. This was not officially encouraged by any side though.
In "Storm of Steel", an autobiography written by a German officer about his experiences in WWI, two French boys are mentioned, who are enchanted by the German uniforms and marching style. Keep in mind that this is in rural France, and these boys have probably never been in any big city or seen anything more modern than a pocket watch. They at first just march along, then start to perform minor tasks for the cooks of the unit, but eventually run away from home just to follow the military unit they had grown attached to.
There are many other cases where children (often times the sons of soldiers) would pretend to be a member of a unit and would eventually receive an honorary rank, just to serve as a mascot.
Pics of 3D children related.
Overall: I can look past the "inaccuracies", mainly because I understand that this show is not meant to be accurate. I really enjoy the concept, though the main character almost seems like a "mary sue" archetype with a cup or two of insanity added on top. I would have preferred if her rise to power was related to her personal endurance and actual hard work, instead of explaining it away with "her magic level is over 9000!". Though I understand that they probably had to cut any lengthy backstory and hard training to make it all fit into one episode.

The magic affinity is part of it, though a lot of her ability comes her knowledge and experience in her past life, plus taking advantage of her physical attributes (appearance throws off an opponent, being smaller makes her harder to hit, etc.).

How does being a cruel salaryman make one a good solider, officer and magician?
And if the gods wanted this guy to live a hard life, why give him magical powers?
>plus taking advantage of her physical attributes (appearance throws off an opponent, being smaller makes her harder to hit, etc.).
What about all the physical disadvantages, like strength, size and speed on the ground? I know that her employment as a flier nullifies most of them, but especially during basic training there should have been lots of scenes where she would struggle immensely. I would have loved to see those scenes, building up an anger in her for anyone who has it easy or wastes any potential they have. This could have served as a very strong character building plot device, instead of just saying "she went apeshit in that first fight" for some reason. Maybe it could have fit the episode too, if the fight wasn't so pronounced and more about her trying to get to safety rather than killing off an entire command staff.

He's got the personality for it. As long as he's compensated he always follow orders and rules to the upmost of his ability, which boosts the effectiveness of his training and lets him put out his best effort when working. Beyond that he is a smart and well-learned individual. As a resource manager/salaryman he knows how to coordinate troops and establish supply routes as he would in business. Also being a jaded and twisted person he treats others as human resources, something that most other generals have not been doing. There's more to what he knows, but I can't remember how much is touched upon in the anime.
>What about all the physical disadvantages, like strength, size and speed on the ground? I know that her employment as a flier nullifies most of them, but especially during basic training there should have been lots of scenes where she would struggle immensely.
Mages rely heavily on the use of magic. I can't remember if they augment their strength, but speed and defensive magic is very useful. Not to mention as an aerial combatant, being small is an advantage. Outside of magic usage, basic training would indeed be difficult, especially as both a girl and a child.
>building up an anger in her for anyone who has it easy or wastes any potential they have
We've got one scene so far where she almost murders another recruit, but no buildup to that. Wasted potential.

>As a resource manager/salaryman he knows how to coordinate troops and establish supply routes as he would in business.
But he is just a Lieutenant, not a General. There is a world of difference between a General and a Lieutenant. Lieutenants command Platoons. That's at most up to 60 guys, maybe 100 in some nations at some point in time. Above that you get different kinds of officers.
Generals command anything upwards from Brigades, which is much more than 1000 men. We are talking about a difference in scale of x10 at best and >x100 at worst.
>Also being a jaded and twisted person he treats others as human resources, something that most other generals have not been doing
He is a Lieutenant. At that level is is expected to know all of his men by name and have at least some sort of connection to them. He is responsible for "using" them, not "wasting" them after all. If one of them gets hurt or die needlessly he will be held accountable for it.
>There's more to what he knows, but I can't remember how much is touched upon in the anime.
Don't make me read the Mango, anon. I already have too much on my plate.

What is this? Winter of 1941 Heeresgruppe Mitte?
>36 hours of constant artillery fire at 2Hz
>~260.000 shells of artillery
Even if only 10% of that are real shells, that would make 26.000 real shells and 234.000 "training" rounds.
The Germans had amassed around 4 million shells in preparation for Verdun. A quarter million shells used to train a squad of soldiers, an entire company, or an artillery battalion is just moronic. Artillery shells have an unreasonably long shelf life, so the excuse that they "had to get rid of them" is obvious bullshit unless these were guns of a caliber that would no longer be produced.
>spending three days in alpine weather without shelter, winter clothes, fire, food or even gloves and hats
Even in the aerial shots of the entire "battalion" invading you can only see four squads of 12 men each, which would make a platoon.
This entire episode reminds me a lot of both Operation Barbarossa and Fall Weiss at the same time. Enemies that don't even know they are being attacked, aerial surprise attacks on cities, encircled units the size of Armies. Overall very entertaining.

You can probably edit the subs back into synch.
You must first extract the subtitle stream from the file (assuming you have them as .mkv) you can use
ffmpeg -i "intmkv" -an -vn -map 0:*numberofsubsstream* -c:s:0 "subs.srt"
This produces a subtitle file in ,srt format, which you should be able to edit. I know it's asking a lot to realign 6 or 7 episodes of subs.

No.868135
>>867848
I've been using DDY subs, but the videos were encoded by Nep Blanc. Comes Underwater subs as a secondary.
Seems like the desync may have been caused by ~1 second of black screen before each video starts. I can't just trim it as is; I need to extract the subtitles, fully convert the video while trimming off that excess, then reconvert it to add the subtitles back in. At least that's my method; I don't know how to delay the subtitles.
This method leads to a big problem. Big text, to be precise (these webms are only the first 20 seconds of the very next episode). Either something was lost in the formatting, or not having the custom fonts installed has lead to this ridiculous text size. The fonts labeled in the srt files don't seem to match the ones used internally, so I don't think the latter is the case here. The first sub file from the mkv has the text size at 52 (the other sub file is set to 77). I can change the size to something more fitting (edited to 16 in the second webm), but that may cause an issue with certain scenes such as >>867720, with specific subtitles being screwed up since I'd have to guess the most fitting font sizes or convert the video a million times as I adjust for trial and error.
Or I can just redownload the videos uploaded by DDY themselves instead of Nep's and use that instead, saving us both a massive headache.

Another setup episode. It's fine though, the battles are usually quite interesting.
Those V1 pulse-jet powered cruise missiles would make an entirely different noise though. The V1 uses a pulse-jet system, where there are multiple flaps in the front of the engine. Air enters from the front and is mixed with fuel. The mixture is periodically ignited, leading to an increase in pressure as the fuel-air mixture explodes, which forces the flaps shut and allows the hot and expanding gasses to expand only backwards. This creates thrust. As the pressure in the engine drops, the air pressure of the outside air pressing against the front of the engine forces the flaps open again, and the cycle continues again.
This system of course puts a lot of strain on the flaps. Using it for anything but model jet planes or missiles is not the best of ideas. This type of engine will destroy itself after some time, because the flaps getting wear out after a couple hours of use (because they are constantly hitting against the sealing grill). At first this reduces thrust, as small holes develop and some pressure from the ignited gasses can expand forwards. Eventually one and soon later all other flaps will break. There is no material strong enough that can withstand such pressure and constant acceleration and deceleration
It would have sounded more like some sort of high pitched (and extremely loud) drone, instead of the typical turbine sounds you can hear in the animu.
However: the system requires a fuel pump. These pumps could very likely be a turbine type engine, which could easily explain why you heard the turbine spooling noise when the rocket/plane was sitting on the ramp. Sadly no real sound recordings of V1 engines in flight exist (that I am aware of).
At first I was a little confused why they would drop the engines as they go, because they are not solid fuel boosters, but I think I get it now.
These engines have a short lifespan. They break themselves after a couple hours of use at best. The lower the pressure inside the engine during ignition the better the lifespan of the engine. To increase the range beyond that of the engine lifespan, you could decrease the amount of fuel used in each ignition, however this would reduce thrust as well. So to counter that they added more engines. Now your missile has more mass, and goes slower overall, even if you manage to restore the original thrust. As maximum speed was required towards the end of the flight, and prolonging engine lifespan becomes less of a priority, you can close off the fuel pipes leading to the dropped engines, and separate them. Now the misssile's mass is lower, and you get more thrust. Because now more fuel lines are closed, but the turbine fuel pump still provides the same pressure, more fuel is being pumped into the remaining engines, which causes them to produce more thrust and wear themselves out more.
So basically: adding more engines is for long range cruise mode, and dropping engines gives you a short range boost, which can not be deactivated. Really neat idea actually, and only really possible with these pulse-jet, because they are so cheap and disposable.
I think I let my autism slip past a little bit.

I do have a question for you guys though. Shakugan no Shana has two more seasons of similar length (and another "season" with 4 episodes). I'm wondering whether I should take a break with this series, and change things up with another show for a bit. Leaning towards yes, but either way works with me. New dailies will start on Monday, so we'll have a few days to figure it out. So far I'm planning on Floral Magician Fairy Bell and Ikoku Meiro no Croisée for the next group. Will need a third (and something new for the streams). If not Shakugan, then I was thinking of maybe Koufuku Graffiti. What do you guys think?

I could do that, but that would require everyone having watched the first season through the dailies. Plus it would be weird to end up uploading seasons 1 and 3 to mega, but have season 2 be something you had to watch the stream for at a specific time and date.
No.874168
>>874139
I personally like the idea of watching season 2 on stream. I didn't watch season 1 in the dailies, but as long as it's not too difficult to pick up (which it shouldn't be. It's lolis after all. Right?) there shouldn't be any problems.
I am not a fan of watching one show for more than a season or two though. With only three shows a week and many great shows around, it would kind of feel like a waste to spend so much time on one show.
In the end, it's up to you: do you want to expose people to as many great shows as possible and give them a reason to pursue season two or three themselves (I ate the whole Made in Abyss mango after watching the show with you fags), or do you want to dedicate your threads to watching a show to completion? Both are fine, it's just a choice of direction.

Shana has four seasons because it has a story spanning multiple seasons. I watched the first three years ago and the key points aside from names and faces in season 1 are Shana is a flame haze. MC is a human (torch). Bad guys use torches for bad things, the flame haze (there are several flame hazes) stop them. MC gets attacked one day and saved by Shana. He becomes curious about this flame haze world. Romance begins. Eventually Shana beats the bad guys for now.
Season 2 is pretty much filler and builds upon MCs childhood friend that has a crush on him but doesn't say anything. Shana lives with MC during season 1 as their romance progresses. A whole bunch of romantic comedy trio stuff happens. Shana and childhood friend become friends and agree to pursuit MC "fairly" even though Shana won long before this season started. The bad guys appear sometimes
Then season 3 is meaningful story MC decides to join the bad guys and get a huge boost in the superpowers he developed in season 1 and 2. Naturally his heel turn comes with a romantic disagreement between him and Shana. Lots of stuff happens like battles between supporting characters. Shana gets new powers. Eventually all the flame hazes fight all the bad guys + MC. Shana gets to fight MC. Turns out the bad guys and MC guys werent actually bad, they just wanted to make a utopia world. Such a world is what the flame hazes want as an ultimate goal so MC and Shana go on their honeymoon in utopia. Happy ending. Yes this whole season was essentially a misunderstanding that could have been resolved by just having MC and Shana talk to each other without being stubborn

Papa's turn today. Tomorrow we'll be watching Yuru Yuri OVAs, and a bunch of Christmas anime! The stream will be extra long, but the Christmas episodes are all from the shows we've seen so far, so don't worry about missing out. Just come in whenever and get comfy.
