Research has found a link between laughing/humor and activity of NK cells. As NK cells naturally find and kill cancer cells, laughing helps your body fight cancer. There still seems to be quite the debate on how to measure humor such as laughing in response to stress vs watching/reading comedy vs what is funny to each person. The only real conclusive statement that can be made about the current knowledge is that "humor may have some effect on the activity of NK cells. We will get back to you on this." I'm not medicalfag

Is it true that there are actually cells that kill cancerous cells? No.852778

Yes its true NK cells have been evolved to fight cancer cells. It would make sense anyways since cancer is a natural thing caused by incorrect uncontrolled mitosis. Its not that we suddenly have problems fighting cancer, we have always had problems with it. We just document it more now than in the past and actively try to fight it with research. As humans have become smarter they have greatly mitigated their own forms of death e.g. vaccination, food, quality of life, etc. as >>852777 said. Cancer is just working its way toward the top of the list of causes of sickness that humans have not figured out.
Do not fall into the assumption that cancer equates to giant tumor and radiation therapy. Inside even healthy bodies a few cancer cells exist, NK just wipes them out before they get out of hand as this episode demonstrated. Only when the cancer can fool the immune system or cannot be beaten back by the immune system does it lead to the "youre going to die in X years.......maybe" stuff. I'm not medicalfag

Total agreement but it does sometimes lead down a very slippery slope. For me josei and shojo anime, self inserting as the girl of course, opened up a whole new world of character tropes. I thought the male character tropes were fun and before long I was reading yaoi and genderbender while nurturing a small interest in otome games. The stuff I learned there transitioned really well into yuri but I could never see big girls as romantic interests so I wound up at /ll/ and youjo anime. The big takeaway from this is an appreciation for all the aforementioned genres and not losing interest when a story has elements of any or all of them. In short watching/reading/playing more is always the solution to the "i dont like this" problem.

Even though I've been downloading new episodes, I haven't watched any since the cedar pollen episode (5). I think my biggest issue was that I was just bored with it being too predictable. I like the character designs and how it educates about so many facets of the human body's operation, but the episodes on the whole tend to be rather predictable.
>episode introduces platelets and describes how they show up to repair wounds
>later on, the body is wounded and the platelets show up to repair the wound
>episode introduces naive T-cell as never having encountered an antigen and a flu invasion
>later on, naive T-cell is introduced to an antigen and the body fights a flu invasion
>episode introduces eosinophil as multiplying in response to allergies and parasites
>later on, a parasite shows up that eosinophil is uniquely suited to fight
The plot of the entire episode became easy to see after about five minutes, and everything else just wasn't captivating enough to keep me very entertained. There's no character development either. All the cells act exactly as they're described to act, which is understandable for this premise, but makes it easier to see where everything is going. Something like the naive T-cell becoming an effector isn't even really character development - it's what the naive T-cell was meant to do all along.
A lot of the problem has to do with these occasional pauses to explain what the different cells or infections are. They basically give away the script for entire characters or episodes and don't leave much room for nuance. Moments like cells pouring boiling water to simulate fever or rockets being fired to simulate sneezing both educate and keep the pace of the episode. The introductions spoil everything in an uninteresting way, so I stopped keeping up.

The sense of national pride was strong after the state of emergency announcement. The cells make a better society than recent humans. Is this a case of the whole being worth less than the sum of its parts?

The thing is that cells HAVE to work and fulfill their task or else they die along with the rest. Their sole and only purpose is to do a certain task and then die after they're exhausted because they have no sense of . The only equivalent for a society is a system where propaganda and brain-washing rob the individual of their sense of individuality and push them into pre-definite roles from birth to death without any choice or say on the matter.
Live. Work. Die.
As much as certain pessimistic eccentric people might say regarding the current state of society, we're not that far in the deep end yet.

I hope you realize that real cells aren't independent sentient beings. The characters portrayed in this anime are dramatized for entertainment purposes.

Man the first half of this episode was so slow it was a drag. The anon that said this series would've benefited from being a ten minute short was right.

In an acute hemorrhage like this, the body would get desperate and start kicking out reticulocytes from the bone marrow to help the RBCs carry oxygen. Imagine if there were little RBCs with their nuclei hats running around this apocalypse landscape trying not to cry as everyone dies around them.

My guess is 2nd season a good possibility. Not sure about BLACKED though.

This show was so fun to watch every week. The little badges on the red blood cells shows the blood type and cell number. I just realized that when the transfused blood had O on their hat. This may have been propaganda to blood donation companies but it was good propaganda. Your platelets will get to play with other peoples platelets.

I liked how they had a different design for the transfused cells, it was a nice touch. I’m also hopeful for a season two. There’s still plenty of things they could cover.
