>This manga is cringy. I think that's the best way to describe it.
>I remember reading the first few chapters that were out in 2014 and subscribed from there. Over time, it really felt more like an obligation to find out what happens next so I just finished reading the last 4 chapters, knowing it's almost ending. (I usually read 4 chaps a time) Why subscribe anyway if I found it cringy? Well, it wasn't that bad before. See when it started out, the kind of cringe reaction I got at some turns made me think that whatever behaviour I found unnecessary will be fleshed out later. But no, that doesn't really happen. Like Mei always being restricted, it doesn't feel real. At first, I was all for it. Oh she must have some strong reason or some psychological force that's leading to it. But then, poof typical-rich-people-i heritance-fiance drama. It's not about cliche for me, it's the presentation. It's just there but it doesn't feel like a real thing that makes me feel for Mei's struggle.
>One thing keeping me going is the fact that the art is just spot on. I love looking at it. And yes, the art makes you feel for the characters but the writing is just so sloppy that I only get absorbed in the beauty of each panel but not the whole thing.
>I'm just so frustrated because I was suspending my disbelief for all those cringe moments thinking it would all come together nicely but no, not gonna happen.
>I am rooting for Yuzu and Mei though but goddamn the last chapters were so cringy. And yet, they also have some of my fave images. ACK! This conflicted frustration!
>I was thingking of this old movie, The Graduate, while reading chap 40. Probably the reason why I found chap 40 so cringy too. In The Graduate, I was absorbed emotionally and the behavior of the characters there made a lot of sense even when they were not the norm.
>This whole fiance thing is so unnecessary! I would've enjoyed it more if the inverse happened. Like their relationship was declared first but that means she can no longer inherit the school so now they have to find a way for her to get it still. But then that wouldn't work either because we never really got shown why inheriting the school has such a strong grasp on Mei. As an example, in A Kiss and a White Lily, a character there, Ayaka, is so obsessed with being number 1 that how she gets fixated on it could've been cringy. Even when it's revealed that it's because she wants her mom to acknowledge her, it could still be cringy. But then you see her working so hard at studying, trying to be number 1. It's so ingrianed in her that it makes sense. It might have started of as something trivial for others but she's so relentless that you understand that it's important to her.
>I know that Citrus has a different theme and purpose as these other things I'm mentioning but these are areas that with a some tweaking could've made the series a whole lot better or at least, read a whole lot smoother.
I would also summarize the series as embarrassing.
