That hit its peak with Ready Player One and the mediocre reviews show that people are already tired of it. The only reason Transformers is successful is because of overseas ticket sales; Americans couldn't give enough of a shit to even get them to break even. The thing is, the Hollywood marketing machine is so powerful that it's almost IMPOSSIBLE for a movie to actually flop these days. Even things that everyone says is garbage, like the recent SW movies, still make bank. So just because these movies are being made, and just because they are (marginally) profitable, doesn't mean anything. Contrary to popular belief, movies AREN'T that expensive for the average person, and are only about a 3-hour time commitment. So people will pick a movie to go watch with about the same level of careful discernment as they will choose which soda to drink.
If they had made a Gundam movie back in the early 2000's, every American teenager would have been all over that shit like white on rice. That's what I meant by the "peak".
