They wrote "APE and humanity" which could be misunderstood as APE distancing themselves from humanity, but in Japanese what they meant is more like "Us APE, the humankind" so they are still referring to themselves as humanity, not as a different entity.

I agree honestly. I'd much rather prefer some good fights like NGE with Ramiel and other memorable battles. The mechs feel almost out of place in Franxx, an afterthought. The fights never feel life and death and are always pretty tame (except for episode 15 in some places, but Strelitzia is so powerful it's almost ridiculous). Neither the Klaxosaurs nor APE feel very threatening to me at all. The show suffered by spending too much time on gay relationship drama and love triangles and not enough on tension (show can build tension but kills it quickly afterwards) and good battles. I think the mech designs may have hurt the show too

Actually, Franxx's drama stuff is decent enough. This episode's stuff with Ikuno and Ichigo was great, and really well acted by Ikuno's VA.

The issue is that certain characters are weaker than others. The last 2 episodes centered around Mitsuru and Kokoro that are just boring.

Klaxos are, or were, humans, see the human form in one of the blue orbs, APE is either techno-human or alien, and society became that way with the start of the use of magma energy, probably. Obviously child soldiers can age quickly because they're expendable (and because they might have Werner's Syndrome, since Dr Franxx was called "Werner" by APE)

They don't show that, they cut right from Hiro entering Strelizia to Delphinium up and moving, there wasn't enough time for that to happen. Removing Goro from Delphinium was a botch on the writer's part, they should have had him stay in the cockpit, off to the side. Instead you end up with a scenario where Argentea is left fighting with one hand trying to keep Goro safe with the other, meanwhile Delphinium is a sitting duck without a pilot until Argentea can get to it. It's no wonder they just cut to the Delphinium being able to move again, skips over having to show all that mess, and how someone didn't die from it.

I'm surprised that the show takes place in such near future instead of hundreds of years. Franxx is not immortalized and from the look of his non-machine parts it seems like story takes place around less than 100 years in the future.
