I'm in the middle of volume 4 and I haven't read anything about the dragon and the old woman that appear in this episode, is it something anime-original or is it part of an extra that I haven't read? The dragon directly mentions yggdrasil, too.

The OP&ED were shit, and they already skipped a lot of chapters in one episode. It seems they'll be done with volume 4 in 2 or 3 episodes which is about in line with season 1 but I'm feeling things are even more rushed than before, the animation is definitely lower quality.

We might have a monkey's pawed this season 2.

Just to compare to two other isekai, Log Horizon and KonoSuba, it was nice to see a second season that didn't feel like it had an immediate dip in quality compared to the first season. I know it's only one episode, but with both of those prior shows, there were things that felt off very early on in the first episode, unlike with Overlord II.

That said, all the different character introductions, scenes, and dialogues just felt like they were dumping a lot of shit on the viewer that didn't go anywhere. Lots of foreshadowing and exposition. On the whole, it wasn't that great an episode.

The LN is probably one of the best reads I've ever had for japanese LNs. (I've only read isekai shit so far)

The anime adaptation is pretty faithfull, but like all adaptations, they have to leave a few neat details out. So you'll be pleasantly surprised every now and then. Definitely worth a read and it's pretty easy to catch up to the anime.

The amount of things that actually happen in the lizardman arc isn't that much. At the pace they're going with the it, it shouldn't take more than 2-3 episodes tops, and we can get to all the other arcs we need to hit between here and Jalaboeth. I don't see is realistically stretching passed episode 4, if it gets there at all.

Keep in mind, we went through 3 volumes in the last season. The Lizardman Heroes arc is 1 volume and The Men in the Kingdom arc is 2. So those together should be the whole season.

The cast only ever gets development when they are in a position where they could be killed.

First book? Ainz has no idea what's going on, sees danger everywhere. Most Nazarik gets introduced and some development.

Volume 2? Ainz adventures with a party who get development and get dead. Ainz and Gamma get development.

Volume 3 focuses on The Chair and Ainz, who have a mortal battle. Brain gets introduced under threat of death.

Volume 4 has the lizards, who serve as a proxy to develop Cocytus while he attempts to wipe them out.

Volume 5 has Sebas find his near death slampiece, and uses her to develop him. As bad also has been defying orders which puts him in the path of Ainz's wrath.

Vol 6 is similar. Climb, Brain, and Blue Rose have more focus as they are in the trench.

Vol 7 has the dead adventurers.

Vol 8 the village and monsters, many of who me die.

Vol 9 had the massacre and war. Learn a lot about politics and then they mostly die.

So on so forth. The characterizations are there to add tension to the story of a bunch of immortal demigod monsters, and you are supposed to grow to like or hate the mortal characters as much as the main cast, so when they are in conflict there is more meaningful outcomes.

The world building and character development that was the most interesting from the first season was that which came out of understanding how the game's mechanics influenced and were adapted to the world and its people. There has thusfar been pretty much nothing related to that, largely because much of that came from Ainz's actions and monologues, and no other characters have been introduced that have also been pulled in from the real world.

Also, what the fuck is with Crusch explaining to another lizardman how the Red Eye tribe has albinos? Isn't that a kind of detail that should be pretty well known and understood about a tribe? Why would it need explaining to Zaryusu? The cannibalism thing, sure, because that was an event unique to that tribe and a time period. But the albino births, especially for their relation to the Red Eye's unique affinity for priestly magic, seem like a quality should be known.

The world building doesn't even make sense with who is explaining what goes or has gone on in the world and who they explain this stuff to.
