Lyza's note said the bottom of the abyss, so until they are at absolute bottom, I don't expect her to be found. And the idea of a white whistle becoming a narehate seems odd to me, I guess because a white whistle would typically never ascend and has no desire to stop and make the village, just to keep going further. Bondrewd and ozen might prove me wrong however but they seem more like exceptions, Ozen having stopped because she now has maruruk under her wing and Bondrewd because it's the perfect place for his experiments.

God, Riko is such a dumbass. Lost her friends and protectors, barely knows her way around this place, hears about some extremely dangerous mystery hole and just has to DROP EVERYTHING AND INVESTIGATE.
I'm surprised nobody has talked about how words can mean different things depending on context. The word for "village" also meaning "cradle" makes sense given the warning about it being "a closed cradle", but it can also mean "mother". So the village attempts to mother everyone. Obviously Nanachi is an orphan who presumably never knew her mother, but Mitty before she was alive was definitely a bit of a mother-figure to her. Of course, the next thing that happens is that Riko finds some kind of apparition of her mother. One wonders, who is Reg going to find? Or is that giant robot that's says he's one of Reg's kind filling that role? All that could be an illusion, too.

Main characters that completely lack the ability to be careful piss me off. How utterly retarded would you have to be to not only run off to explore some dangerous place (essentially) alone, but to also do it while your companions are lost in a dangerous village that none of you understand? If she had any sort of prioritizing ability her first focus should be to find the other two. Especially so since both of her companions are capable of protecting her, and one of them is her fucking bodyguard. Making it harder for your bodyguard to find you in a dangerous place is generally not a good idea.
It's possible that the language part is only to show that everything about the place is strange and not human. We have plenty of words that mean very different things depending on context too, besides.

what a fantastic chapter. I wonder if one of the white whistles is actually one of the sages, but in disguise or mutated or perhaps with the use of their artifact manipulating others perception of them. This is what the mention of the sages made me believe.
Also, I believe that the final page looking like a fucked up Lyza is a deeper affect of the village. Perhaps to tie into a possible perception altering quality. Riko may be thinking in the villages words and may have thought of the word Iruburu as she descends and is reminded of her mother.

How do you lads think Reg was called Reg by Faaptuaa?
Remember that the name came from Riko's dog whom she found many years after her mother left. There should have been no way for Reg to have known that name at the time.
There is no way that Reg met Fapptuaa in the body of another robot or something while he was unconsciously fighting Bonedrood or whatever.
Do you think that time might not only slow down but start moving in the opposite direction? Remember that every 1000 years, there is a mass funeral of thousands of people, the curse of the abyss casts a plague on the surface village or whatever. Reg saw a ton a few chapters ago.
Remember too that Nanachi was the first-known creature of her type, but I guarantee you that the nigger Nanachi has been princess for longer than Nanachi has been alive. How did she come to be before Nanachi?

This is true. Bonedad managed to make Nanachi a functioning narehate by "trading" material from Mitty to form Nanachi's fluffiness. It was just a mechanized and forced function of the "balancing" of value that goes on in the village. Only, because the force field doesn't exist there, nobody ever needs to be hit by the curse, so they don't end up mutated blobs.
Also, it's a Ponzi Scheme. "Lyza" down there is greedily amassing a wealth of biological slop by farming a small amount of money from every "transaction". The members of the village need to bring in new people all the time in order to keep the supply up of new material to be "traded" (new "value"), because each trade loses some of the total to the creature in the pit. They're literally trading in an imaginary currency that only exists because people believe it does; it's the abyss version of bitcoin.

That's because becoming a true narehate, through whatever process, causes a person to assume the form that reflects whatever is in their heart. Is that what he was aiming for? As far as I can tell, they are the latest tech of the research that caused Nananchi's transformation. He's using them to suck up all the bad curse effects while keeping the useful transformations. I assume that's how he got his lizard body in the first place.

No, he's doing to himself what he proved in concept with Nanachi and Mitty. The cartridges are small, portable version of the elevator assembly. The original point was just to be able to return from the 6th layer, but the side effect is that you get the 'blessing' instead of the curse.

Well, here's the thing. The deeper you go underground, the hotter it gets because you're closer to the molten mantle and there is more rock above to insulate from heat radiation. At least, if you're not in a magical abyss where there's a downdraft via some energy field. Several attempts here on Earth to drill to depths over 10,000 meters in continental crust have encountered temperatures in excess of 500F.
For reference, Idofront is at 13,000 meters, and 500F is what you get if you turn your home oven up as high as it will go. So even if they COULD drill into the rock, there is no way they could survive.

Interesting note that keeps coming to mind and yet I never see anyone point out: There is no downdraft. The forcefield is pulling light, nutrients, and possibly souls and time downwards, but there's a constant updraft everywhere we see wind. Maybe the forcefield only works on energy and solids, causing the air in the bottom to displace upwards as its space is taken up by what the field wants.

Well, there has to be something that's equalizing the air flow. Otherwise the atmospheric pressure down at Idofront would be close to 4 fucking times that of sea level. Down at the mapped bottom of the Abyss, 20,000m, it would be over 7atm. From what I can find by comparing pressure encountered by sea divers and from experiments in hyperbaric chambers, around 4atm of pressure is when you start getting nitrogen narcosis. This is thought to be caused by the gas being forced into nerve channels, producing effects similar to being intoxicated, possibly related to how inhalation anesthetics function (although, frighteningly, scientists have NO IDEA why the fuck anesthetic works, or even what it DOES to the brain; they can't even be sure whether it produces true unconsciousness, or just prevents recollection of memory of the event). This is why deep divers have to use a special blend of air composed of oxygen, nitrogen, and helium.
At 7atm you'd get hallucinations and hysteria. Nitrogen narcosis in general is a laundry-list of symptoms that read a bit like the Curse in places (except less "sick" and more "blazed out of your mind"), ending with loss of consciousness and death at over 10atm.

I don't think the people of Orth give the tiniest flying fuck about what happens to children, physically or psychologically. Considering the number of orphans and what Bondrewd did, being a delver is actually a best case scenario for them. Even so, that still carries with it the possibility of horrible death, just in the first layer. Mr. Crimson Splitjaw doesn't come up to there very often, but red whistles getting eaten clearly happens. That doesn't count the risk of falling, being buried under a cave-in, or contracting some weird disease because you're digging through undisturbed 2000-year-old gravesites.
As for Marulk, he's under the watchful eye of the second most powerful living being (at least at the fifth layer and up) in the world, who will do no worse than string him up naked. Wearing a dress is a small price to pay for that level of security. Besides, his delving outfit isn't nearly as girly.
What do you suppose he carries in those silly bags on the side of his head?

Ozen probably thinks she died; that's all that matters in this case. She was just being nice to Riko telling her to go down there and get her. Either way, Lyza isn't around anymore, so she wants a girl to "take care of". Or is the fetish material actually done in a more tasteful/normalfag-friendly manner than other anime which feature that kind of stuff? None of it really bothers me. Nah, it's implied pretty heavily in the manga (a little less so in the anime) that Mitty realized Riko didn't have a soul, so when she was supposed to "die" she granted her soul to Riko.

I'm going to use context to an extent because I don't feel like pulling up three different chapters. In early chapters, it's explained that souls in the abyss are "recycled." Nanachi goes on to explain to Mitty during the flashback that the "Abyss Faith" believes (paraphrasing) "When a life is lost in the Abyss, the soul is said to return to the bottom of this planet and then the soul changes form and departs on a journey to someone who has wished for life." It's explained by Ozen (I think) that Riko is just a dead husk without a soul and it could just be a matter of time before she withers away from the artifact.
I remember reading this scene translated slightly differently than what I'm getting now, but the actions/context imply that RIko's sense of self was dissolving into her fetus form while in her injured state because of her lack of a soul, and that Mitty regaining form and guiding her off was Mitty pretty much telling the abyss to transfer her soul into Riko who lacked one/had the husk of one now that she was free of her body. I figured it was just one of those heavily implied scenes from combining different parts of the mango that anons already assumed/knew about, so I never brought it up.

I remembered the quote as just that first part, when you die you return to the abyss, but you just stayed there. A kinda of giveth and taketh away type deal. And for her fetus thing part, I just saw that as her meeting mitty as she passed away, rather than taking her soul. I mean she straight up just walks away in the pic.

Except it doesn't make sense that you can just transfer souls and yet not trade out the persona that comes with it. Unless you means souls as in Undertale which are a mere power source and not the seat of identity, and can indeed be swapped around like batteries , then Riko would have become like Mitty, or at least gotten some of her personality traits, or SOMETHING.
In any case, I just interpreted it that Mitty helped guide Riko out of her comatose state. The whole "soulless husk" thing was just Ozen trying to upset her; I don't think she really believed that.
Anonymous 01/27/18 (Sat) 12:43:46 No. 786233
>>786226
I agree, that was the way I interpreted it as well. Riko met Mitty in the collective unconscious. Mitty's soul was bound to her mutated body so that's why she couldn't move or do anything. Finally when sparagmos' cleansing fire freed Mitty her soul was freed and she was able to help lead Riko back into consciousness and away from the edge of death

Above 16 threads ffmpeg begins to complain about it, but other than that I haven't had any issues and it won't go anywhere near max cpu usage even with that (can do 2 or more webms at the same time with powerful cpus). You should really stop using webm4retards though, since the best results are from the latest updates in the libraries and I'm not sure how well does that program keep track of it.
As for the encoding time, it took 45 mins for the op/ed each and about 1 hour for the balloon scene and this is on a rather old cpu. Anything from the first gen i7 / high end bulldozer onwards should give you that time or less.

That's not how it works. If a stranger tells you to go to a secluded place where no one else goes, you don't just trust them blindly. Especially not when you're in a fucked up place with insane people who already tried to kill your pet and whose language you don't understand. And she does this without even attempting to find or contact her companions, both of which are far more capable of protecting both themselves and her. Oh, and one of the shady locals that she just met follows her.
Imagine being dumped in some middle eastern or African village with two bodyguards. Do you follow the random bartender's instructions to some cave you don't know shit about, knowing that the other two will have no idea where you're going, or do you try to reunite with your two friends and bodyguards? If you choose the former, you completely lack any sense of self preservation.
>What was she supposed to do?
At least attempt to find the others. I don't recall the bartender saying anything about the cave deciding to just up and walk away, so she had no reason to be in as much of a hurry as she was. To be fair, the other two were also idiots for splitting up, but they at least are more capable than Riko, and they knew that Riko was at the inn. Before the retard wandered off, that is.

I get the impression that it's actually got an end goal in mind. We'll see the next two white whistles, Lyza and maybe an attempt to return to Orth but even if they do it'll probably end with Riko going back into the abyss once again unless the abyss collapses in on itself or something. If other organizations or delvers are introduced in place of the the two remaining white whistles then it may go down the road of forever and ever upping the ante, you could reasonably add foreign delvers to the mix however. Really it depends on whether Tsukushi thinks he can do without the MiAbux when it comes time to put the series to bed or not. MiA's all he's got under his belt and he may be too scared to start fresh.

Depends on how long he tries to drag it out after the 7th layer. I'm gonna guess he has an ending in mind though. When your story has a clear destination to reach, even if the bottom of the abyss is vague, it's hard to drag it out longer. And don't try to bring out One Piece as a counter example, because the destination there is even more vague than the bottom of an eldrich horror hole and that's saying something.

the majority ever shown have male figures, not denying there isn't any but there is an overwhelming amount of males. Going to the 5th layer, only characters you see besides the main ones are Bone's guys who have a wide range of different body types. But none of them display anything feminine. Well, she was described as a ferocious drunk. Also, the names of all the white whistles are nothing if not hilarious fucking understatements. Bondrewd the "novel" is a goddamn soul-jumping eldritch abomination; Ozen the "immovable" is the physically strongest being on the planet and can lift ten-ton boulders. And what is Lyza? Oh yeah: the "ANNIHILATOR". Lord Almighty. You'd think she's the type, when she fights foreign powers, who does no less than slaughter them all, even the women and children if applicable. You'd think the Blaze Reap was just her idea of a sidearm, and she uses nuclear artillery as her usual weapons. Maybe she got that moniker after she used some ungoldy artifact to wipe out an ENTIRE COUNTRY.
Who knows? But we do know it'll be something insane, that makes "annihilate" seem tame.

I mean sure she could wipe out and entire party of foreign raiders but generally people earn such a reputation when someone survives to tell the tale, dead men don't go tell their friends or leaders who killed everyone. As for the nickname possibly coming from her own country, it would make more sense if it was to intimidate other powers into staying away and not something really fitting her personality, given all her other accomplishments there is a slew of nickname possibilities other than "Annihilator", yet they probably wouldn't prevent a repeat of the incidents that lead to such events that earned the nickname.
I guess you could think of it like how Bondrewd wouldn't want his title being "Bondrewd the child mutilator" since it would have no real benefit, "Immovable" and "Annihilator" or even "Novel" have benefits in that they either intimidate potential foes foreign and domestic or paint a nice picture for the public despite the nature of the business.

Question: i've heard of a certain "made in abyss nanachiposting/hell".
Can someone elaborate? Since >google doesn't give any result

>I mean sure she could wipe out and entire party of foreign raiders but generally people earn such a reputation when someone survives to tell the tale, dead men don't go tell their friends or leaders who killed everyone.
Mind you, she also had a rep for destroying the hostile creatures of the abyss, so everyone who went on dives with her would be able to relay the tale of her killing whatever ferocious beast that attacked the crew.

Someone asked what happened to the "anon who was sculpting Nanachi" in the previous thread, well here I am.
I have been working on the... Skeleton, I suppose it has other names, but that's what I call it. Turns out it's frikking hard to do, even after watching a million jewtube videos on tips, tricks and rituals. It was also quite difficult to find out what kind of feet Nanachi has, digitrade or plantigrade? I went for the latter, according to one single panel in the manga her feet are plantigrade.
Anyway, I think it's pretty much done and I just ordered Super Sculpey which according to my research is THE clay to make figurines from. I ordered about two pounds or 1 kg of it from ebay. It comes from Spain, so it's going to take a while. I also bought some tools from China which are going to take a month to arrive. I can do without them though.
The best thing about this new material is that it doesn't shrink when it dries or bakes, thus no cracks. And it doesn't stink like this 5 dollar clay I had before. Cons is that it costs four times more, so there goes my plan on poor fagging this out.
Picture related, ignore the blood stains, I just want my Nanachi to be as real as possible.

Well I hope for your sake it doesn't look like 90% of the other sculpting pieces people tend to make.

Finally read through the manga. Haven't seen the anime. I was hesitant to get into it since I heard it was full of suffering, but despite that it's really good.

There is suffering, but there is hope too. That underlying feeling of hope despite everything is what separates it from something like, say, Berserk.

Don't know if you'll see this, but I'm an amateur sculptor here. Been working with Super Sculpey a lot over the past few months. I could share a bit of knowledge with you if you're up for it, since you're looking to do a lot of the same things I've been doing. I think I've even got that exact sculpting set.
Either way, swing by >>>/tg/308131 and let's talk shop.

It pretty much IS Roadside Picnic/STALKER including the human sacrifice and the stalker's curse as reimagined by a sickfuck paedophile Japanese salaryman, with some deep sea diver stuff thrown in.

There was an earlier thread that had a webm of manga bondrewd bobbing his head. It had the track Discover the Abyss.
Could someone post that again?
