I don't want a Made in Abyss game because I know that no developer they picked would be able to live up to expectations and create an interactive universe that feels as wondrous as it does when you're reading the manga or watching the anime. To make the Abyss feel "gamey" would kill the appeal, whether that be through a generic JRPG or an empty open world game. The kind of game design talent that could do it justice is extremely rare, so I'd rather wait for someone smart to create something inspired by Abyss and give us an "Abyss game" that way.

Keep in mind that it isn't confirmed to be a season 2, but a sequel. It could mean ova, movie, or season 2. If production on the manga is consistent i could see there being material for a full season by fall next year.

Anime doesn't really get made into games, at least not into real games. Big shounen franchises might get musou or fighting games, Konosuba got a JRPG, a Megaman clone and a shmup, but those are meant to be either phoned-in cashgrabs based on the popularity of the source material or little bonuses, not really games that stand up on their own. There's also that LWA game, but I haven't seen too much of it so I don't know details.

And that's a real damn shame.
I've been waiting for years for a One Piece game that just uses the setting but doesn't follow the main cast, for instance, but I know they'll never do something like that, despite how obvious doing it would be. This applies to so many things, it's a huge waste of potential.

Realistically speaking, I don't think I'd want anime being made into games with the current state of the industry. Anime is where you find a lot of creative ideas and the potential a lot of shows have for being adapted into games is huge, but that doesn't mean that potential is actually going to be used, especially not in a climate where videogames are being optimized for bringing in the most money for the least effort.

It blows my mind how reserved and cautious the Japanese games industry has gotten over the past decade. You'd think they'd have dumped a fortune into making bigger, better games for their most popular series. One Piece is supposedly a huge fucking deal over there, but the most it gets are wonky fighting games and Musou-type games.
You'd think studios would be fighting over the chance to make something like Made In Abyss into a proper action/survival/exploran' game.

In an ideal world yeah, this manga would get a lovingly crafted RPG with the same sort of fluffy fantasy and terrifying horror as the source material, but honestly I'm with the other anon in that it wouldn't come close to capturing the charm it had. Even the anime is lacking at times on virtue that the transition to animation stiffens things up more than what a static image can, ironically. It's like a nice sketch looking lifeless when inked.

What's her name again? Fupa? I'm gonna call her that. Well, obviously Fupa knows Reg, and it's already established that coming up from the 6th layer causes loss of humanity, and Fupa is unintentionally violent much like Lyza and the narehate village is full of narehate that formed based on their fetishes desires so in theory, if she lost her humanity and can't remember when she was Lyza she could be pulling from raw emotion her knowledge of Reg, which could imply she's actually a mindless narehate that was once Lyza.
It makes more sense when I'm drunk than when I'm writing this sober.

Also lyza is a relative newcomer to the abyss, whereas it seems implied that the narehate village, and thus faputa who is the queen, was there for a long time. It seems more likely to me that reg simply knew faputa before, as he did come from the abyss and had his memory wiped.

The perfect place for the lesbian Ozen and the trap Marulk.
But other than that, none of the levels particularly work out in regard to sin, theme, or "punishment".
No.765077
>>765053
Well lets break it down. And mind you there are also nine layers of purgatorio and paradiso as well, so it might also relate to them. But lets stick to inferno for now.
>1st layer: Limbo
This contains the unbaptized, virtous pagans, and those who did not accept christ but were also without sin. I could see reg, being a robot, considered unbaptized or a virtuous, but because he lacks a soul, he cannot accept any spiritual power. He simply lacks the ability.
>second layer: lust
Don't what to make of this one. I guess this anon has ozen and maruruk, ozen for wanting lyza and maruruk for crossdressing. But what does fit is the fact that the punishment in this layer is a strong unending wind. This matches up with the strong wind in the second layer that knocked around reg and riko on the way to the seeker camp. And it is called the "forest of temptation"
>third layer: gluttony
Again, not clear connection. Closest I can come to is the little tunnel rodents being used to distract the other creatures, literally baiting them with their gluttony, and in the anime how riko gets trapped trying to get some food without reg.
>fourth layer: greed
This one doesn't have a clear connection. You could say that nanachi and mitty were lured to the abyss by bondrewd and their greed, but I don't know if you can really call their desire to not be trash digging orphans greed. I guess the "goblet of giants" part kinda fits.
>fifth layer: wrath
This one kinda works. The way reg chimps out at bondrewd, it really is the most wrathful he's ever been.
>sixth layer: heresy
This one we don't really know enough about, but the idea of faputa being a false god to ancap village kinda works. It may or may not work out that way though. Though it could happen with the birthday disease and the names falling back to the abyss. Or it could be that the concept of value itself is a false god to the ancap village, because they use it to dictate their behavior and almost worship it.
Beyond that it's anyone's guess.

2nd Layer is the Forest of Temptation and you experience nausea like with pregnancy. It fits perfectly well.
3rd Layer is a bottomless pit filled with man-eating creatures, so it fits well with the idea of gluttony in its physical manifestation.
4th Layer you have cups filling with water (representation of wine goblets, hence "goblet of giants") and it's where the true treasures of the abyss start to appear.
The Sea of Corpses fits perfectly with wrath as well when you consider that diving down is alright, but coming back up in the sea causes the effects of the abyss to take hold of you. The corpses of monsters of the abyss pile on at the bottom of this layer, which fits quite well with the idea of wrath.

I remember seeing a world map in D&D (I think) that greatly resembled the MiA map. Has anyone seen that map? There was something about an Iron City on one of the lower levels and definitely an ice level. I've been itching to see that map again but I've been searching around the internet to no avail.
Also, will reading the manga be worth it? I picked it up but found it to be pretty faithfully represented by the first season. I heard the only reason to read it is if you like loli content that was toned down in the show.
Personally I think the art style is great but I am worried, as others have said, that they are quickly going to run out of runway and risk releasing shitty filler that is nowhere near at well thought out.
Personally I'd love a few cave diving missions to find some interesting loot or possibly Darwinesque taxonomy meanderings. I get a Berserk mixed with Monster Hunter vibe from the craziness in the fauna from the show. Really hope they don't let it fall by the wayside.

Well, you see, that's because the OP/ED songs are not part of the OST. They're not original works, nor part of the "soundtrack". To be honest, "Underground River" and... uh, "Hazardous Caravansary" shouldn't really be included, either, because they are lyrical. But that's my opinion. Point is, the OST was composed by Kevin Penkin, and the OP/ED were not.
Here's an interesting question: who is the one clapping in the ED? It can't be Riko because her left hand is crippled and it couldn't have been Reg even before he lost his right hand because they're made of metal. Neither could it be Nanachi, because her hands would just make adorable "fluff-fluff" noises. Is it the sound of Bondrewd bouncing Mitty off a wall and onto the ground? because that's what I'm going with.

So I caught myself wondering the other day about Best Dad and his elevator experiments. See, there's a few things that are bothering me.
First, it was said that the reason Nanachi only got the Blessing of The Fluffiness was because Mitty took her share of the Curse, thus being double-cursed, which is why she melted into putty and lost her marbles instead of just being deformed, like those in the Narehate Village. But the thing is, this was the only time the experiment was a success, because of Mitty's love for Nanachi and desire to protect her, yet ALL the other kids that were put into the elevator ended up looking the exact same way. So how the heck did ALL of them get double-Cursed if none of them got not-Cursed?
Second, why did Best Dad have to repeat the experiment like twenty times, melting all those kids? He's simply not that stupid that he couldn't see the obvious result after melting only a few of them. I can only conclude that he must have done it just to get rid of them, because he figured only Nanachi and Mitty would work.
Third, why was it said that Mitty was special because she was completely immortal to everything that wasn't Sparagmos? Because when everyone went to Idofront and Reg got a teeny bit upset and blew the place to fucking pieces it was shown that all the other mutated kids were still alive down there. The problem is, it's clearly been months if not years since Nanachi and Mitty left that place and I seriously doubt Best Dad has been dropping any food down there for the kids to eat which means all of them can't starve and thus are also all immortal, just like Mitty. For this, I can only conclude that Best Dad specifically selected Mitty for those experiments, as part of some kind of psychological torture of Nanachi.
Also, all those other kids are trapped just like Mitty, for fucking eternity and the only thing that had the power to kill them has now left them behind, likely never to return. Which kinda really sucks.

Long and short: The curse of the Abyss responds to desire, willpower, and the thoughts of the people within it. Recall earlier that Nanachi explains that Spikey is partially precognitive or able to read the intent of their prey, and that creatures lower in the Abyss all have that ability. This brings us to Nanachi and Mitty. In the moment when they were being pulled up through the 5th layer curse, there were arguably three strong desires present in their minds: Nanachi saw what was happening to Mitty and desired, more than anything else, to not die because she was scared. Mitty desired, more than anything, that Nanachi would be safe, because Mitty is kind and selfless so her fear was that bad things would happen to her friend. The only thing Nanachi cared about in her life was Mitty, which presumably means that her other latent desire was that she would not lose Mitty. The result... Nanachi's mind is spared, her body is made more capable of surviving the Abyss, and Mitty, while potentially braindead, did not and could not die, thus fulfilling Nanachi's desires.
Later on in the manga, desires become far more important and the things that happened to Mitty and Nanachi will make a little more sense. In the anime, the only explanation I can give for what happened to the kids who were brought to the Idofront is that they had no strong desires. The Abyss judged them and saw them unfit. They were confused, aimless, scared, but not much else. They had no family and probably no strong emotional bonds to anyone. When exposed to the curse, they became piles of nothing. For all his wisdom, Best Dad did not initially grasp this phenomenon... But he did later, which is why he started making children into 'cartridges', but only after he had carefully conditioned them to feel strong feelings of love and loyalty towards him and his cause, making them the ideal shields to the curse's effects.

This makes a lot of sense. I didn't think about the process of actually making the elevator would have required significant live testing. It was actually pretty obvious that he saved Mitty and Nanachi for last because he recognized the potential.
I hope your laboratory work always rumbles triumphantly. Just don't spill any lolimercury on yourself, or you'll end up brain-damaged like Mitty.

The Abyss represents the layers or dimensions of our Universe, starting at the top you have the normal day-to-day world. As you lower the lines between reality and fantasy blur, making your escape difficult as you have to return back to cold hard reality. Up until the point in which you change your true "self" by using the sixth layer curse materializing both your good and bad parts and beliefs. As you descend into the Abyss you're chasing the high of freedom and potential, going back can be crushing both to body and spirit. The Narahate deal in Value and all have come to resemble their mental selves, good and bad; except Nanachi whose "sins" were transferred to Mitty, while becoming something capable of her desires.
