Gimp. CSS. The usually suspects.

- Take screen shot

- open in gimp

- Cut and paste the part you want. You could probably match the font to the buttons if you wanted to change the text or use the rip in a gui tool kit or something.

- If you wanted to use the screen for something else you can use the select tool to erase the current screens and then use the resulting image as a mask chaning what is shown though the boxes.

Images are just pictures, you have to tell them what to look like.

It looks like a simple 3d model. You could do the light effect with a gradient and 2d art or use Blender and just put a light source about where it looks like the light is shining from in the image.

It all really depends where you want to use it. If it were a 2d video game just having an image mask would probably do fine. For 3d go with Modeling. If you want to do a web site like this you're going to want to match CSS to get a similar effect to the image.

Right now, to me CyberPunk is CypherPunk - I am trying to integrate myself into as many different darknet communities as I can an encourage the adoption of encryption and cryptocurrency.

I sip HODLFUEL coffee purchased in BTC, host a Hidden Service on a VPS paid in BTC, write posts on how2crypto.

I am probably the finn.

I think this whole thread quickly devolved into how to make a cyberdeck. I like the idea of a cyberdeck to replace a smart phone (voip/sms via wifi/LTE modem), and I think the military equipment photos >>54020 (left) , is beautiful , but there is no way I can walk around wearing that shit - its just way to try hard. I am not going to put coloured pencils in a tactical belt.

One thing that I wish /cyber/ boards would do, chummer, is build. I am hosting some darknet services, but we need more of us. Go build something, anything - including a tactical belt.

I don't think there's any such thing as a cyberpunk lifestyle outside of the general High Tech Low Life ethos.

I'm a loser with a variety of psychological and health defects, which I mitigate using drugs, both prescription and voluntary. Sometimes the delivery method for these drugs is high tech.

I also spend most of my brouzouf on my computer, and some on clothes, which I prefer to get second hand or online, which is not always easy because I have niche interests and unusual fashion sense(which is to say I usually avoid trends and go for things that are either practical or classical, often as nondescript as possible).

I like my drugs and alcohol and when I was younger I used to actively look for fights. I'm generally antisocial and socially retarded, and frankly I feel a lot more at home with weapons or tools in my hands than I ever will in any corporate environment.

Is any of this cyberpunk? I have no fucking clue. I don't think I even care much. Cyberpunk is fiction, which reality is slowly catching up to aspects of. I enjoy that fiction, and the worlds often depicted are interesting to me and seem to make a lot of sense if they're written properly(which nothing in the last decade or so has been). Beyond that, I don't really give a fuck about living any kind of life but my own life. Gather knowledge, pass it on to others, try to do the right thing and ask that others do the same. That's really about all there is to my life.

Current EDC: Folding knife, heavy weight, cheesy zombie artwork scales, great work knife. Also carrying a Smith & Wesson HRT Bootknife, which works great. Super tough, easy to pull.

Also carry a smartwatch with a small modification that allows me to hide an 8 GB mini-memory card in the underside beside the heartrate sensor. A bit worried about the software on the smartwatch because it's some chinese shit, but everything's being monitored by the Chinese or the Americans anyways.

I'm considering trying to machine my own folding pistol by salvaging a barrel and hammer assembly from an existing gun and machining the housing, but who knows when that shit will happen now that I've lost my job due to the fucking Coronavirus lockdowns.

 No.57858 [Open thread]

It is my belief that the current state of A.I. research and development is flawed.

A.I. research, which currently is composed almost solely of neural networks, seeks to

replicate part of the functions of a human as closely as possible to the real thing.

One popular example is computer vision, where neural networks are trained to recognize

various objects. These are used in self driving systems to allow the car to recognize

stop signs, pedestrians, etc. Almost all of these neural networks share the same basic

properties. They are given a set of inputs that activate the neural network, and they

deliver a set of outputs which marks the end of the neural network. In this way,

modern neural networks are almost exactly like conventional functions in programming

languages.

The current theory in A.I. research is that the continual development of the function

like neural networks will eventually lead to true intelligence. If a computer gets so

good at recognizing images it must at some point develop understanding about those

images, right? I posit that this way of thinking is wrong. Functions can be compared

to logical circuits, and in much the same way, the continued development of a single

logical circuit will never properly lead to a computer. One can not take a simple

addition circuit and make it add so well it becomes a computer, or at least if one

could it would take an obscene amount of time to accomplish. In order for A.I. research

to be driven to the next stage, we need to stop thinking about neural networks as

single functions and think more about how the combination of these can develop a

computer.

There are a few improvements that I think could be a start to this change in thought.

Current AI research is very much based on utility. A neural network is trained for specific purposes, such as object recognition. General intelligence is not required for such mundane tasks. A more holistic attitude to AI, where an entire system is an intellect, is obviously a much more complex goal. Interesting post, nonetheless. I believe that organic chemistry will play a part in our future artificial intelligences, which will likely create ethical concerns.

Of course neural networks are not real intelligence, they could tweak themselves to emulate conscious behavior, but that's not the same as being conscious, neural networks will never be actually, they are just algorithms, they can't think at all.

We should focus on generating a real consciousness that learns and understands, that would be intelligence.

The 'Remembrance of Earths Past' trilogy.Hard sci-fi written by a chinese engineer. Blackpilled without being edgy depression porn and verges on cosmic horror, but as a war with aliens being so devastating, not the same old Lovecraftian space monsters. Most famous bc Obama said he really liked the series.

Quick synopsis

>signal sent out to aliens

>they receive it

>they will arrive at Earth in 450 years to take over since their planet sucks

>based around the theory the dark forest theory of the Fermi Paradox (second novel is named after this)

Heres a really good fan film short that the author praised as perfectly capturing the tone and feel he was going for

if you want to do networking, do networking. Or see if your engineering program has a networking class.

Personally, Im doing cybersecurity. We cover all of that stuff, and briefly hardware too

I listened to this song like a week ago when it randomly came up on my youtube recommended list ( instead of normie garbage that makes them feel smart ) and now when it gets to the spoke word part I flip, it's such a good song.

I have evidence that alludes to the possibility that Amado Carrillo Fuentes Faked his death, Murdered his son (Vicente Carrillo Leyva) who was planning to kill him and assumed his identity. Mexico is a easy place to fake your death and get plastic surgery. This article states that is how he died. The reason this is important is because they are a key player in Human Sex and Child Trafficking. (see links to reference)

Are they in Denver Co.? Look?? 5701 E 8th Ave (9th and Ivanhoe side)?

I was thinking of going back to school, and then thought, "why not ask the internet what to do?" I'm currently in the military operating crypto equipment and ferrying emails about, but yearn for something a little more engaging to do with my life.

I could go back to school for CS, but CS people are absolutely awful and anything you learn in school in a 3 year program will have been obsolete for 5 once you're done. Even if you do ever get a job, you'll be surrounded by assholes who submit every commit you make to "thedailywtf.com".

I could try computer engineering instead, but unless you're going to become a graduate student by 25, you're dead in the water with no relevant skills because only the cutting edge matters.

I could try EE, but that has the same issues as computer engineering, but also it's even more difficult but also a lot of the major issues outside of computing are long since solved, so there's no jobs for anyone outside of the cutting edge except for nepotist-hired italians and greeks bolting COTS transformers together.

I could go into UI/UX, but that's namby pamby bullshit that never ends in a job, since the people who do actual UI/UX are usually drawn from software teams or groups of non UI/UX specialists

Or, I could go back for something more artsy and not directly related to computers that I like, but those artsy-fartsy jobs either don't exist or are all mafia-controlled; things like industrial design, architecture, civil engineering, etc.

What is a /cyber/ job that is actually viable to study and vye for in the current year of 2009?

Service industry - Cook, dishwasher, janitor (hopefully not but its possible)

Tech - IT, programming

Engineering - Applied electronics engineering, robotics, installation

Trades - Plumbing (not residential), Electrician work, HVAC, Elevator, Construction

Obviously location matters a lot. Working as a programmer at google is not actually very cyberpunk. It's almost the opposite. If Adam Jensen from Deus Ex would be hacking into your emails and not visa versa….

>location matters

Can confirm. Used to do software development for a corp, and it was the most monotonous, non-punk shit ever.

Pretty 水 chummer.

Maybe /cyber/ is just whatever breaks you out of 'the matrix' or exposes you to the non-corperate world in some form. Thats skyline for a radio-tech, thats people for nightlife jobs.

All of this is romanticized though to an extent. A radio-tech probably doesn't feel /cyber/punk while showing up to work. A street food vendor is probably a horrible job, and doesn't feel 水.

Case's cowboy console job does actually exit - There are now documented cases of corp espionage that involve hacking.
