Is there any spooky paranormal tv show worth watching, /x/?

 No.35156

>>35152

Not really. All the ghosthunter shows are fake and gay imho.

 No.35157

Unsolved Mysteries is fairly entertaining.

This. In fact, the ghost hunter shows are so predictable you can easily tell they're fake:

>1. Woman gets spooked by ghost. It's ALWAYS a woman in every episode.

>2. Skeptic husband doesn't believe his wife.

>3. After several undeniable spooks, husband calls ghost hunters.

>4. The ghost turns out to be…

>4.1 A peaceful former occupant of the house. Psychic brought in to learn its past and help with any unfinished business.

>4.2 A former occupant of the house who wants to "live" alone, but property ownership doesn't apply to the dead and the house was resold. Ghost put to rest.

>4.3 Psychic fallout from the family drama going on during the episode. House saged.

>4.4 A demon. Priest brought in and…

>4.4.1 Demon is exorcised. Every episode tries to make exorcisms look like The Conjuring and similar horror movies.

>4.4.2 Demon starts playing nice toward the priest and is mistaken for an angel. The Haunted did this once with an animal-killing entity that treated the priest to a warm, welcome atmosphere to avoid getting exorcised.

If a ghost hunting show consists exclusively of episodes fitting this script, it's fake.

Twin Peaks is the only answer, it only starts getting solidly-/x/ towards the end of the 2nd season and season 3.

 No.35169

the outer limits 90s version is a bit spook

Or maybe that's just how spooks actually work most of the time?

 No.35172

>>35152

X-Files with it's millions of episodes covers most /x/-topics.

Will give it a try, thanks.

>>35167

I don't know why because I've never watched it, but it seems really boring and pretentious.

>>35172

True but I've already watched them all.

 No.35177

People of earth is a pretty great series

Not all spooks follow my script. For example, one episode on one of the less Hollywoodized shows had ghost hunters come in to investigate, only finding one entity who claimed over the ghost box to have already cleaned house. Another had the ghost hunters themselves get haunted after returning from an investigation. Basically when the hauntings are all the same the show is likely recycling scripts. As for the witnesses themselves, when a show always has 1, 2, and 3 exactly as written in every episode (female witness, skeptic husband, reluctantly calls ghost hunters) and the show features Hollywood exorcisms, it's fake. In fact, something I should have listed in the first place is that ANY exorcisms on TV are fake because the Catholic church forbids the public release of exorcism footage. The shows that reenact paranormal accounts sent in by witnesses will always put a Hollywood spin on their source material, "female witness, male skeptic" cliche and all. Many shows are in it for ratings, and will take minimal risk and milk a successful script for all it's worth, rehashing the same episodes over and over again. And finally, even fake shows will use the names of real paranormal investigators, many of which have a Youtube channel with more realistic footage than on TV. As I mentioned before, however, priests will never perform exorcisms on their channels due to strict church guidelines.

TL;DR: Hollywood is somehow less exciting than real paranormal encounters. In most fake shows the events are so repetitive as to be unbelievable due to recycled scripts and overused cliches. Exorcism footage will never be on a real show due to Catholic church rules. Fake shows can't afford to NOT recycle scripts.

First season is a 10/10, second season is a 7 at most because of executives forcing Lynch to wrap up who the killer is, season 3 is an uncomfortable and uncanny 9/10.
