According to Plato, Atlantis disappeared beneath the ocean 11,600 years ago

According to science, the last ice age ended 11,600 years ago

Göbeklitepe (the largest megalithic site in the world, 50 times bigger than Stonehenge) has been dated to around 11,600 years ago

How can anyone seriously believe that this is just a coincidence? Plato might have embellished the tale for his own political purposes, but the basic story is correct. What's really amazing is that the memory of that event survived for all this time. When Plato wrote about it, Atlantis hadn't existed in 9,000 years. We must be grateful to the Egyptians for keeping the tradition alive until Plato's time. This also proves that writing must have been invented long before the Sumerians and the Vinca culture came up with their own scripts. It's a shame that the truly ancient sources have probably all been lost by now.

I am still a believer in Humanity being cyclical and that we blow ourselves back into the pre-stoneage once we get technologically advanced enough.

You do realize that Plato meant 11 thousand years before his time right?

Plato didn't say it was 11,000 years before his time. Did you even read the OP?

Well, according to Michael Cremo (and Hindus), men have existed on this planet for hundreds of millions of years, so there could have been hundreds of advanced civilisations.

Plato said it was 9,000 years before Solon's time, and Solon lived about 2,600 years ago.

Except they had no nuclear power or nuclear weapons because otherwise there would be evidence.

If we all died tomorrow, what evidence would there be of our existence 10 million years from now?

Massive variations in the bedrock and ice sheets due to the industrial pollution and nuclear testing we've been pumping out?

Lots of things can happen in 10 million years. Mountains rise and fall, continents move, meteors hit, etc. The world would be unrecognisable. Even if anything we did had a lasting impact on the planet, how would the people of the future be able to tell? Was that canyon created by the action of water and wind or was it excavated by machines? Are the radiation levels high because thousands of atomic bombs exploded in the atmosphere or because of some cosmic event? If you thought your civilisation was the first in the history of the planet, you would explain everything with natural causes.

Hubris, exhibit A. Earth cares a whole lot less about you than you think.

Maybe you can make a case about mineral deposits. Our garbage dumps should show up, especially the ones that get buried.
