One of the local churches is supposed to have an underground level where severely deformed people live, cared for by nuns. Nobody knows if it actually exists, but everyone knows about it. Stories talk about people that look like human-animal hybrids.

In my home town, there is a legend about the woods / creek that is up the street from my house. Supposedly, the mayor of the town many, many years ago had an illegitimate child. To try and save his reputation, he drowned the child in the creek and buried the body somewhere in the woods. It is said that you can still sometimes here the cries of the child, especially near the creek.

There's tons of local shit here (New Orleans) but the only thing from the part I grew up in (Marrero) is the lafitte witch. There was a pond about 3/4 of a mile away from the town I grew up in. It was a little bit away from the road and right at the edge of the forest. Pond was covered in weeds and duckweed or algae with some rubble sticking out of water, but other than that area was dead. No animals around it what so ever, not even mosquitoes.

Local legend about it was that there used to be an inn where the pond is, and before war it served as a meeting place for various shady types. Towards end of WWII a small group of Nazi officers and soldiers (supposedly retreating away from Russia) drove through the town. They entered the inn carrying few briefcases. Few moments later, building exploded leaving only a hole in the ground and some rubble. Hole filled with water over the years, and Nazi ghosts are wandering through the forest and nearby fields and forest.

Now I live not far from supposedly hunted road and cemetery. Apparently there are people/ghosts standing in cemetery and the middle of the road that vanish right as they are to be fully lit up by your car's lights. Some people also claim to be followed by a car as soon as they enter the road, and lose it when they leave the road. Local teenagers like to put those tales to test.

 No.31118>>31722

La Llorona (Spanish for "The Weeping Lady") is a ghostly apparition, the lingering soul of a departed woman, who was stricken with grief after she drown her own children in a river. There are multiple interpretations of this story, but the basic premise is that this woman killed her children in order to live a life of fancy with her husband, but things didn't work out with the guy for whatever reason, and she ended up regretting her behavior. She spent the remainder of her life searching every body of water she could find in the hopes that she'd find the children's remains. When she died, her spirit remained, and is now said to terrorize the riverbanks after dark.

It's just an old wives' tale that adults will tell to their children to get them to be afraid of roaming near bodies of water by themselves. I guess the reasoning is that if kids stay away from the water, they won't do something stupid and drown themselves.

I remember one about a railroad track from my youth. Supposedly, a school bus got hit at a railway crossing, and all nobody survived. They say that if you park on the now decommissioned tracks, the spirits of the children will do their best to push your car off of it, to keep you from suffering the same fate. There are even stories of cars lightly dusted in dirt and grime being covered with tiny handprints after passing.

It spooDavid Ickeed me pretty hard as a kid, despite the spirits being benevolent.

All the old classrooms at my old primary school were built just off the ground leaving a gap underneath that was blocked off with wire mesh so kids wouldn't crawl under it. I told my friends in primary school that the wire mesh surrounding the bottom of the classrooms was there because a monster dog like creature was trapped underneath when the buildings were put up, and when some kids would get too close it would drag them under into the darkness and eat them.

About 6 months ago or so I was at a get together at an old friend of the families place who had small kids that went to that school and told us a story about that monster dog under the school.

mfw this retarded urban legend was some stupid shit I came up with to fuck with my friends when I was 8

There's a library here in town, the Willard Library, built in the 1800s' with a Gothic style. The library, if I remember correctly, was funded by Andrew Carnegie and took quite awhile to build. The building is said to be haunted by the ghost of the Grey Lady and is known to move rocking chairs, books, etc at night, spooking the night cleaning crew. Some ghost hunters came in and even said that it's definitely haunted. I believe there's also a live camera online to watch the interior at night. spooky stuff

pic related, the library

 No.31191

>>31182

The library itself is really great and is considered one of the best in the US, our whole public library system is bretty gud. Although sadly, this image looks to be using image enhancements or it may have just been cleaned before the picture was taken, because the exterior and the park itself is really rundown and very gloomy looking. It definitely gives off a spooky vibe to it now. It also doesn't really fit in where it's at, in the middle of an industrial section (right behind the building, with the big metal silos, is Berry Plastics) of town. There's too many warehouses and industrial zones nearby the building.

Plus, the library is on the total opposite side of town than where I live, it's about a 20-25 minute drive. Hard to take the time out of my day to visit it when I have a library less than 5 minutes away.

If the thread is still up in a few days, I'll make a run by and take some pictures of it myself, inside and out.

Mines really shit its called the lady of the lake. Basically there's this big ass lake near me and supposedly a girl who lived on the lake front drowned while taking a swim.

Well a little while after that this guy is driving around the lake and sees this drenched girl standing by the side of the road. Being a bro he pulls over and offers her a ride, she thanks him and gets in and tells him her parent's house is not far from here.

He eventually gets to her house, being a cool guy he offers to walk her to the door. They walk to the porch and he knocks on the door, these two older couple answer. He tells them that he brought there daughter home, they say nobody's with you, all of them look to his side and only see a puddle of water.

The end

That is mostly it, besides the parents telling the guy about how they're daughter drowned and the guy being like oh shit I drove a ghost home XD.

The only thing that I like about the story is this fucked up shit about how when it's foggy her spectral form will be hovering around the middle of the lake singing and shit.

I'm from western Kentucky, and in our area we have a legend about an ancient spirit that sometimes show up around certain graveyards after midnight. It just appears as a dim floating light that makes its way through the headstones before floating into the woods. If you get too close while its among the graves it will disappear, but if you keep your distance they say you can follow it into the woods. At some point you'll find yourself close enough to the world of the dead that you can talk to passed loved ones for a short time.

I can tell you that its all bullshit, but it makes for a nice meme.

Neato.

I've noticed that my country (Australia) doesn't really have urban rumours. I thought long and hard and could only think of a couple, and they were just executed prisoners haunting the first jail in one of the cities.

I asked all my mates from different towns, some rural some urban, and they don't have any legends either.

I guess because we're a new country, relatively, there wasn't much time for superstition or the paranormal to seed itself into our identity.

this ones actually a pretty interesting murder that turned into a ghost story from my hometowns area, its called the Lady of the Lake

>The story began in the summer of 1940 when a woman's body floated to the surface of Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. The woman was wrapped in blankets and hog tied with heavy rope. She had been strangled.

>The case was especially macabre because of the condition of the body. The woman's face was unrecognizable, but her body had not decomposed. In a bizarre chemical transformation, the flesh had turned into a soap-like substance that could be scooped away like putty.

It turned out her husband had killed her, tied her body up, and through her weighted body into the lake and made up a story that she ran off. When the body surfaced 3 years after she disappeared the case was reopened and her husband arrested.

Ive heard stories that late at night you can see a ghostly women either surface or fly over the lake surface (i've heard different versions from family and other old timers)

Now the lake where this took place is about 40 minutes from town in a national park, I spent alot of time there because family owns property on the shore. I have yet to see the ghost but foggy nights on the lake can give you a huge feeling of creepiness and unease.

I used to have a pet wolf that would apparently keep me away from this lake I used to live on as an infant. I was told she would nip at my diaper and hold me back from wandering too close. There were old shards of pottery scattered around the lake on the trail. And there was a tobacco barn in the far back that smelt like nightmares.

>>31010 (OP)

Just death and rumor. But there are countless places around this state that I wouldn't go anywhere near. Littered all over this state are remains of old, poorly built buildings made of all sorts of materials and in all out-dated designs, in counties and towns that are practically dead that no one has ever fucking heard of, divided by some creepy fucking railroads and thick woods.

I live like an hour away from Waverly Hills Sanitarium though, always wanted to check it out. And downtown here in my town there's an old theatre with some old story about a father pastor and his daughter both committing suicide at what was once a church, with a bell tower that is no longer around but can sometimes be heard. Same goes with this old Catholic school, fucking creepy brick fortresses around here that are picture-perfect.

"The Toton Wolfman"

There is a park not 20 metres from my house that extends quite a way and has a river and a forest, there is also a main road that follows one side of the park and many people have seen a gangly humanoid creature running across the road on some nights especially during the summer. I have known about this myth for about 12 years but it could be older. Personally I haven't seen the wolfman but have seen videos of it, whether fake or not I will not know. I have heard noises from the park though, and always feel like I am being followed if I walk though the wooded area at night.

From the videos and descriptions it somewhat resembles Mr,Lupin from Harry Potter (pic related) or the Wendigos in Until Dawn.
