Why is "loud" on its own line? It you want that sentence over two lines you have to break earlier. I can guess that gimp is making it a hassle. But apart from that it's good and an interesting idea to have Chinese text.

Gold and silver star images with transparent backgrounds. They are not perfect because the source image was not the greatest quality.

OP of that gold/silver star thread, you didn't have to delete it. It's bad form because you're also deleting everyone else's replies and anything interesting that was discussed. Instead please request that your thread be deleted in order to give everyone a chance to finish their dicussion. Thank you.

These aren't transparent, but they are at least 6x larger resolution than the ones you posted (depending on how 8ch renders them). I may try to cut them out with GIMP a bit later.

Bronze one was thrown in just because. Maybe it can become a thing too. Also, if those don't work, I found a couple more gold stars that have a high resolution and can be cut out.

No problem. You weren't shitting up the board anon, don't worry about it. Posting multiple versions of something and improving it based on feedback is a great way to learn. Also remember that other people are seeing it and picking up tips too.
It would also be great to see anons just posting ideas and suggestions as well. Brainstorming is fine. You never know what will inspire someone else. For example the original gold star thing was just a post someone made only a short while ago. Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.

Larger resolutions are better because they start out at a higher quality and can be scaled down if needed to fit any project, whereas smaller images might need to be scaled up which makes them fuzzy.

I think we should use mega or similar things to share large images or psds for high res masters. The reason is that we don't want unsuspecting visitors opening browser crashing files. For example most browsers on mobile don't sanity check, they just crash.

style captions.
Give/link me a good base image (no selfies, no private/gf pics, horizontal preferred but not a must, 1280x720 minimum for horizontal) and a caption you would like (short ones/one or two sentences preferred, asian language would be nice too). Also I can give a quick guide for anyone who wants to do similar captions. (Photoshop required)

The problem with using a similar image is that people don't realise it's a new caption at a glance. Making captions for people is really nice of you, but I recommend a new image each time.

For one, the top and left side aren't cropped properly. Secondly, I would say the text is too small/the image is too large for each other. I re-cropped it to draw attention to both her eyes, since with the stars that seems to be what you want to be focused on, and the text. Also, you might want to use a brighter color for the text.

Excellent concept and choice of image.
The star in her left eye should be facing us in a perspective correct manner but masked against the eyelid. The right eye star is out of position because you didn't want to go over the eyelid - again it needs masking. Also the stars could be curved to fit the surface. I know that sounds difficult to do but if you break it into parts it's not that bad.
The idea would be to make it look like a physically real contact lens. Whether or not a subtle curvature would actually look good remains to be seen.
>>2535
I don't know if I agree about the cropping. I look at them and like both, or maybe the first one more. I'll have to look again later because technically what you say seems as if it's right. The eyes in your arrangement are less centred in respect to how we perceive a face, that's probably my issue. So a centred face is not actually centred when we think of a portrait. But at the same time your crop is quite striking, and leaves a large tempting area for some really bold text.
I agree about the rest. Trying to have a gold feel for the text is a good idea though, and I see why that anon went for it. Perhaps it can be pulled off with some changes.

You're right, but at the same time, I wasn't trying to put a ton of time into it moving the text around. I was just trying to give a rough example.

Here's how to achieve the basics
>put in horiz & vert guides to find the centre of each eye
>draw a circle from there over the pupils
>make circles semi-transparent, move and scale them to match the iris, moving the guides to match
>her left eye is only slightly smaller than the left
>paste in the star and transform it to what feels like a good size and angle
>do same for other eye, proportionally smaller looking at the circle size
>trim down the circle against the eyelids
>use the circle as a mask for the star
>edit the fringes of the mask so it looks smoother and more accurate
It's all still layers and masks we can edit / move / replace anything no problem. For example I rotated the stars a little bit and maybe they should be smaller. Later I can add effects, reflections, blending, and so on. Some eyelashes should also be subtracted from the mask.
>>2552
The effects on the second image have blown out the stars, her right eye for example. Because of the blending the camera man is forming what looks like false pupil.

No.2587
>>2557
Thanks for the guide.I don't have much experience using masking, so that's a main part of the process that I'll need to practice more. I especially like the first image in >>2552 and the way it preserves the reflections in her irises, but the image in >>2557 does a great job with the positioning of the stars, especially the way the one in her left eye is partially behind her eyelid.

>preserves the reflections in her irises
Yes, but how to do it without damaging the stars? The reflections certainly do add the spherical and realistic feel to the eyes, so we want them for sure.
One answer is to copy the underlying eye above the star and blend it there with screen mode so that the bright parts are visible without adding the dark parts. Also I've blurred the left eye a bit to match the depth of field.
Looking at this I think more highlights could be added manually, and also some glow. One way to do that is to copy the parts we want to glow, apply a blur to them, and then set a blend mode. Some sparkle effects too possibly.

The blend mode is how layers interact, literally how they blend together. You figure them out fairly quickly if you make two layers with different images and see what happens when you change the mode.
Me, self taught and I ended up doing graphics as a side job occasionally.

First one, should be “she’s” as it's a contraction for “she is”. Text isn’t readable on the fourth and you uploaded the last two as png. The third one is definitely my favourite. It looks the best and the caption sounds more natural. I get capitalising “White” and “White Men” like some people do with “He” and “Him”, but “Guys” looks strange in my opinion.
You should type your caption into a word processor first if your editor doesn’t have a spellcheck or a quotes/apostrophe auto-formatter.

In general, I like them, but the text in the 4th one is barely legible.
What do people think is the best approach to putting readable text on an image that doesn't have a cooperative background? The first and third pictures, for example, have nice empty spots that are one color for the text to fit into. The fourth one doesn't have any options like that. Its background is very busy. What can you do?

The second picture has a viable solution: outline the letters. Another possibility would be to just put a solid color box in an open space for the text, but I find that to be amateurish.

Simple answer: don't. Crop the image and have a solid colour column to the side.
The first one actually doesn't have an empty spot. Technically yes it is "empty" but not from the composition point of view. It's goofy and amateurish to have text squeezed between a plant and a pole. 9 out of 10 times these design choices are made robotically when zoomed in and simply not looking at the image as a whole. Very easy trap to fall into when designing anything.
>>3024
It doesn't have to be but there are better choices I agree.
>outline the letters
Fourth picture? Doesn't take into account the visual confusion and disturbance the patterned complex background causes. Could still work though, that's just my guess.

Yes, it could do. Don't know until you try. I'm just speaking from my experience that sometimes adding what amounts to more lines on a pattern does not make anything clearer. It's a case where it either does work (hopefully), or it only stands out technically speaking but still looks confused to new eyes.
With all these things the best approach is to experiment. Thankfully it only takes a few seconds.

Disagree. I think tattoos and similar branding are meant to be degrading and that's why they're so popular with the Queen of Shit crowd. WMAF shouldn't be about degrading Asian women, but uplifting them. The gold and silver stars are a little more dignified in that respect.
I've made a few captions with this really basic format and the reason for that is if someone finds the image good but the caption annoying/unnecessary/whatever it's easy to simply crop it out. The content is mostly "Your mom" kinda stuff because I find mom NTR to be an underrated subgenre. The new boyfriend or step-dad is always implied to be White, if not outright stated.
