Which is best?
No.292
CTR is obviously the best.
No.298
Diddy Kong Racing is the best.
You could race in planes or hovercrafts aside from the usual karts.
Plus the Silver Coin Challenges, and the best battle modes

I can't really say any of them are bad, but MK64 is probably the most lacking. I'd probably rate DKR as my personal favorite.

CTR by a mile.
No.1109
Mario Kart 64's level design was spot-on, its controls and handling were as tight as could be, and it had a top-tier battle mode.
And while DKR's adventure mode was a cut above, I never really liked the feel of some of the vehicles (particularly the plane). Non-racing hovercraft was pretty good, though.
So they both had their strengths - but how does CTR stack up? What does it do better?
>tl;dr: quit your half/v/-style dick-waving and well someone who's never played CTR what it actually brings to the party.

>>1109I never played the others, but CTR has tight-as-fuck controls, with CONSTANT opportunities for skilled input via power slide boost combos and course exploits. Extended CTR binges make my hands more sore than any other game.

i grew up with Mario Kart 64 and i remember playing Diddy Kong Racing once, and from what i played i thought that was pretty fun, choosing a car or a plane if i remember right, i think i'll go on a hunt for it one day don't get me wrong i had tons of fun with MK64 but i've been playing it since jesus.. like '01 or '02, any other good racing games for the 64? i heard waverider was fun

No.1407
When I played them, I greatly preferred Kart over DKR. However, I think the variety of what you can do in Diddy Kong makes the game much better for groups and parties.
CTR is good, don't get me wrong, but I don't get the same feeling about it as I do the other two
No.1545
Kart for the level design, replay value, classic Nintendo charm.
Kong for the vehicles, surprises, graphics.
Crash for more characters, more levels and superior controls.
All the above for a damn good time.
No.1546
Out of those three, I prefer Diddy Kong, that was just a fun colorful happy world with a lot of intrigue and cool things to find.
I could understand if MK64 was your first so you love it, but coming from SNES Super Mario Kart it was more of a let down than anything.

I picked up MK64 recently for the first time since the 90s, and well, it is not a good game. Especially compared to the SNES original, which I've also played recently.
Boring courses, races that are decided in effect at the end of the final lap, ugly graphics. Even the music sucks.
No.2696
The only major issue I ever had with DKR was that no music ever played when you did co-op with more than two people. iirc it had to do with space limitations.
The non-racing levels were pretty fun as well.
No.2703
DKR is way better. A more fair comparison would be DKR vs F Zero X. I'd have to give it to FZ just slightly.
No.2750
with my autism alone I could beat Mario, but Diddy Kong had that fucking turn before the bridge you had to do to get that silver coin
No.2758
I own all 3 and the only one I still play is CTR. While it does't have the alternate vehicles that dkr had, the controls were tight and powersliding was so damn fun. Also, it had the best multiplayer and levels. Music is debatable but ctr's music was the most intense. It lended itself well to a racing game.
No.2864
My nostalgia says MK64, my most recent experience says DKR, but CTR was pretty impressive when I played it.
Main thing I dislike about CTR was the music was crappy, especially compared to the other two. I'd probably play it over MK64 if given the choice though.
No.2901

CTR by far. DKR is a respectable second. MK64 is overrated and feels bare bones compared to the other two.
>>1086
Controls and tracks leave something to be desired. Extra modes make up for it a bit, though, and leave it around the level of Mark Kart 64. However, the music makes it the best racing game of its gen.
>>1109
Tons of tracks, tons of characters, pretty graphics, lots of unlockables and lots of content in general. The controls are spot-on and the tracks have many shortcuts and features that make Mario Kart 64's seem very bland in comparison.

I don't know why, but I always assumed CTR was just a straight up racer, closer to Mario Kart, and therefore the thought that it would have tonnes of unlockables didn't enter my mind.

CTR has best controls, tracks, graphics, and sound
Diddy Kong Racing has very good tracks but the controls and sound don't quite hold up to the others, though they're still good. The tracks are the most important part anyway as long as the controls are workable.
Mario Kart 64 feels like a very bare bones game with very boring tracks compared to the other two. Music is great though.
