Niggers.. each time you make a paper Mario game like this everyone hates it and it sells fucking awful. Everyone has been begging you to return to the original RPG style and give us a proper entry.
It’s bizarre how tone deaf Nintendo is with this series.

Not sure what he's talking about specifically, but there was one occasion with Rockstar back in the late '90s trying to release an open-world game on the N64 Nintendo deemed too violent, but I'm not sure if Miyamoto was involved. I do remember seeing an image with a bunch of interviews of the developers of Sticker Star saying how Miyamoto directly held them back creatively, including Miyamoto's decision to get rid of partners.

>saying how Miyamoto directly held them back creatively
That's a bit misleading. Miyamoto is a producer, it's his role to guide and direct projects and give creative input. It may not always work for the best, but he didn't "held back" anyone. Remember that Retro Studios was "held back" when they were starting out too, then they created Metroid Prime.

Yeah but it's a little different when the first two entries in the franchise are actually amazing and then you decide that it needs a bunch of changes nobody wants. I mean, the gameplay style is completely changed.
>>16936845
That was a unique case because from what I understand, Sakamoto basically didn't have any hand at all in the character development of Samus across the entire franchise except the initial design for the NES game, then arbitrarily decided to shove his dick right in the middle of Team Ninja's face. He simultaneously brought in characters from Fusion while ignoring Samus' characterization from that game, which was probably the most redeeming part of that game in my opinion. It gave her a backstory and attachment to another character while still making her the stoic and strong bounty hunter personality that doesn't really need support from anybody. But Sakamoto wanted to make her seem like some kind of fucking menopausal mental case who regrets not having a child.

What Miyamoto did with Metroid Prime was creative input as it was a off-the-wall idea for the game. What he did with Paper Mario was insist they remove the majority of the creativity from the series for the sake of having a very bland, safe Mario title. If that's not holding the devs back I don't know what is.

Also, it’s pretty much every GameCube game at the moment. Sunshine goes for 70+, Fire Emblem 100+, even the Metroid’s are way up there. Like I said though, we lucked out with Paper Mario emulation. It’s even one of those rare cases where the emulation actually ends up being better than playing it on the home console. Nintendo must have used vector based sprites or something because when you upres everything it actually looks great instead of the usual crap you get when you try and play a sprite based game in HD.

It's collectors. They buy up as many copies as possible and hide them away (or destroy them) in order to create scarcity, then they make a small portion of their collection for sale.
So yeah, there are probably several people out there with 100+ copies of the game.

Artificial rarity increases prices. If you had two mint condition copies of something, they'd sell for a lot less if there were 10,000 copies rather than if there were only 5,000. There are people that legitimately go around, buy up copies of anything perceived to be rare on a list they keep, and destroy them to improve their own investment, because they really are that big of greedy hand-rubbing cunts.
I still have my copy of TTYD and a working Gamecube. I'm considering reconnecting it and playing it again, all things considered. Genuinely good game. Good pacing, great characters, interesting plot, fun gameplay.

It's a pretty stupid and roundabout way to play a market. Those people could get richer from playing the stock market if they put in the effort, but they probably have too little self esteem as most obsessives do. The prices seem like a decent profit out of context, but then you realize that you had to hold on to your investment for over ten fucking years.

The hell would they have to gain by actually destroying them as opposed to just sitting on them until the value appreciates? There's no difference in the affect on the market value for the first one sold having destroyed the extras versus just keeping the extras out of the marketplace, except that you'd lose whatever you could eventually get for the extras.

That still doesn't make sense. If I have a hundred copies, sell only two of them and sit on the other 98 ones I still make the same amount of money. I can then half a year later sell one more copy from my stash and again make money. Each subsequent copy I sell from my stash makes less money, sure, but it still makes more money than shredding it would. As long as they are trickled out onto the market one by one the value drop will be pretty low.

This, how much is the turnover really on a copy of a video game when you factor in inflation and storage cost? It just pisses off people who would want to genuinely own the actually play the game instead of sitting on a hoard of rare toys like an autistic dragon. I was considering going into making my own repro carts, but the equipment to get started is pretty expensive.

Any video game franchise that goes beyond its 3rd release isn't worth playing.
First = New and innovative game
Second = Improvement of the first in every single way
Third = experimental take on a familiar formula.
That's how games should be developed. You fucks keep clinging onto sequels and ports rather than play original games, then wonder why they aren't as good as the games you already have played.
Ofc this rule can be broken if developers continue to experiment. But certain game franchises you just gotta let go of.

The first two Paper Mario games are pretty unique when compared to other JRPGs so it sucks to see a solid formula go to shit because nintendrones keep enabling the company whose managers fuck with people that actually know what their doing.

I don't hate it so far, but I've only gotten past the colored pencils boss so I'm not going to make a final decision yet. I don't dislike the wheel setup for the battles as much as I though I would (hopefully the puzzles get harder at later levels because they're piss easy right now). The tutorials feel like they drag on forever and that burns my ass, especially since there's no option to speed up the dialogue and Olivia talks slower than a turtle with down syndrome. There's no level up system and finding health upgrades also increases your damage and defense. Battles feel pointless since all you get from them are coins and you find a metric ass-ton of those in the over world. The game is closer to an actual RPG than most other new Paper Mario games but that's not saying much since, while they have weapons to buy and upgrades to find, there's no EXP or levels so my slaying of baddies feels impersonal and needless. Nintendo is trying to reinvent the RPG wheel and it just doesn't fucking work.

It was a creative decision. New adventure new baddie.
I fought for a level up system and producers didn't budge. Such is life.
They didn't want partners either but I got them to cave by having them only stick around for a certain period of time.
Wanted badges, was able to compromise with accessories.
Toads, collectables and confetti was added to give completionists something extra to do, you can ignore it otherwise.
The game was designed to be played by all ages tbh.
I still can't believe collectable #69 went through. I didn't even fight hard for it!
*Wrote the game outline, some of the puzzles, named the characters, wrote Toad and Olivia dialogue. Not a coder tbh. I had to pitch the puzzle battles because nintendo loves their 'innovation' I doubt it will return, they just wanted to differentiate it from the rest of the paper mario games.
The intro is a homage to paper mario 64.

Well, at least it didn't go with "Sike! it's another fucking 'Mario rescuing Peach from Bowser' but this time with a lgtba vibrator" Mario spinoffs have been dropping ball lately.
>Mario Tennis Aces intro showing that Luigi would be the final boss because Wario fucked things up, surprise surprise Bowser out of nowhere stole the rocker and shoved it up his ass.
>Luigi's Mansion 3, Luigi has to rescue Mario from the SMW ghosthouse miniboss, this time with Peach.
>Odyssey borrowed many ideas from GTA, one which is money purchasing costumes in order to progress, does that mean they will also add playable characters having their own twist? Pauline returns, does that mean Mario will revisit the forgotten 80s and 90s universes? Fuck no it's just the same tired cliche but with the last squeezed out ideas.
Can't they be more fucking stubborn? At least the old Mario games felt a lot refreshing
because literally anything could happen.

Finally got around to finishing the game and, as a collectathon, it's not bad. It's nice and tedious so I've got a lot of painstakingly obtuse hidden blocks to uncover and a VERY helpful treasure sensor that only works when I'm within 2 feet of a treasure box. The puzzle circle combat system gets harder as you progress which is nice but there's only so many combinations of solutions so when you figure them out you feel like a god but at the same time it makes the game super easy. The final boss was fun (albeit quite simple and easy) and I wish you could collect everything without having to beat the game first. Overall it's a very chill puzzle collectathon with a lot of charm, but if you're looking for an RPG featuring Mario you're better off looking elsewhere. I would be fine with this format for Paper Mario games going forward just so long as the Superstar Saga comes back and remains entirely RPG centric.

Sucks that the devteam behind Mario & Luigi declared bankruptcy, but they kept slapping "Expanded & Enhanced" on every entry, everybody got so fucking fed up. As for Paper Mario: They confirmed they got so limited on OCs to the point of just using office props as bosses. I just know someone is gonna' defend this retardness.

Given that, TOK's flaws are more executive meddling than anything else. Given the creative limitations the developers had, they did a reasonably good job, at least from what I've seen. The analysis of >>16946764 seems to be pretty much spot-on. Definitely feels like a collectathon with RPG elements slapped on. Granted, I haven't personally played it, but I've been keeping up with a playthrough of it as background noise

FUCK THIS GAME AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
This has nothing to do with this thread, but would you just listen to me for a little bit? See, I went to the local Yoshinoya today. Right. Yoshinoya. And the damn place was packed so full of people, I couldn't even find a seat. So I looked around a bit, and I found a sign that said "150 yen off". What the hell is wrong with you people? Are you idiots or something? Any other day you wouldn't even think of going to Yoshinoya, but if it's 150 yen off, you all flock in here? It's just 150 fucking yen! 150 yen! And you're bringing the kids too. Look at that, a family of four going to Yoshinoya. Con-fucking-gratulations. And now the guy's going, "All right! Daddy's going to order the extra-large!" Shit, I can't watch any more of this.
Yoshinoya should be fucking brutal. Two guys sit facing each other across a U-shaped table, and you never quite know if they'll suddenly just start a fight right there. It's stab-or-be-stabbed, and that's what so damn great about the place. Women and kids should stay the fuck away.
Well, I finally found a seat, but then the guy next to me goes, "I'll have a large bowl with extra gravy!". So now I'm pissed off again. Who the fuck orders extra gravy these days? Why are you looking so goddamn proud when you say that? I was gonna ask you, are you really going to fucking eat all that gravy? I wanted to fucking interrogate you. For about a fucking hour. You know what? I think you just wanted to say "extra gravy".
Now, take it from the Yoshinoya veteran. The latest thing among the Yoshinoya pros is this: Extra green onions. That's the ticket. A large bowl with extra onions, and egg. This is what someone who knows his shit orders. They put in more onions, and less meat. A large bowl with the raw egg, that's really fucking awesome. Now, you should know, if you keep ordering this, there's a risk employees might write you up. This really is a double-edged sword. I really can't recommend this for amateurs.
And you, Paper Mario, well, you should really just stick to today's special.

I finished it, it was not pozzed. It was an ok game with mediocre music, not on the level of thousand year door. And there's no reclutable characters besides the main 3.
Lots of optional bosses and extra content, not bad not terrible.
