Resident Evil 0 was originally an N64 game where Rebecca would survive lost in the woods of the Arklay Mountains as her team had been sent in under false pretences by Wesker to Beta Test his personal BOW project. A white apelike monster referred to in design docs as "The Wesker Monster". The monster would turn into a generic white monkey called 'Eliminators' in the final build but the original was a larger tyrant sized creature closer in inspiration to the Wendigo.
Rebecca was far less combat proficient to match her character in RE1 and the game had more stealth elements than usual RE games. it involved exploring the woods, its various facilities and even a few extremely rural villages that umbrella had been experimenting on. Both ideas would be lifted in the next year or so after 0 got reworked to make the Nemesis and the village setting of RE4 after its own revamp. The game would have been a lot more open and exploratory but in the end with REmakes production in full swing they decided to make the gamecube rework tie into REmake instead of RE1 so most of it was scrapped and we got the infamous "identical mansion a mile down the road" situation that many fans regarded as a cheap gimmick idea.
Rumour was Capcom announced Code Veronica was an exclusive for the new Sega console, we know for a fact Sony demanded another title as well and got a team working on a spin off about Hunk on a cruise ship to make Nemesis for all platforms and a promise of an exclusive from their new online division that would become Outbreak. So while unconfirmed there were rumours the 2 game deal wasn't for REmake and RE4 on gamecube but REmake and RE0 since its exclusivity at the time of the N64 was that "it couldnt fit on one disc" which given RE2 already releasing not to mention FF7 this seemed sketch at best.
We will never see the original game with its npc villagers, spiders puppeting zombies ala dark souls 2 or the explanation of what became of the missing members REmake forgot and the retail 0 only descibes as "and i never saw X again…".
What game do you wish had the unreleased build chosen instead of what we got?

In the n64 version he was missing his hand but in the retail gamecube build he isn't because the game was rebuilt to match REmake and its opening/changed story instead of being a prequel to the PS1 release that was made hard none canon.

Final Fantasy XV. Pretty much the whole marketing from the first announcement until it's release was false advertising. The gameplay and the plot originally planned were all scraped at the last months of production, and we ended up with a complete shitty nugame with an idiotic plot where nothing makes sense unless you know about the content that was cut from the final build.

The entire Xenogears/saga/blade metaseries.
>XG runs out of time and money, desperately crams three discs worth of story into the VN on the second disc
>XS goes from a planned 6 games to 3.5 plus a web miniseries that tries to fill in the gaps, more or less loses the XG connection
>XB has a huge, detailed area intended to be explored, only used for a single cutscene
Haven't played past XB1, but I'm going to assume similar problems plague X and 2.

Just fucking Bloodborne. I'm very fond of the game as it is but once you've seen the stuff that got cut out then the whole experience of playing gets to be a little bittersweet. The loss of that snake boss battle alone is tragic. It's would have been far better than the three Nazgul gank squad that we got. But we also lost both Micolash and Maria as NPCs, a Master Wilhelm boss battle, a boss battle against the Great One that was probably responsible for the beast curse, a fallen/corrupted Moon Presence battle, several monsters that are completely or almost completely dummied out, and a bunch of other stuff as well.

I mean loads of cool missing content is a thing with all the soulborne games. Literally none of the souls games lack this feature, even DS2.
They also have a tendency to be rearranged weirdly in the final stretch it seemsthough DS3 at least is obvious in terms of what they were aiming for, even if said target was extremely retarded Though most were probably just lack of time or power.
The original order for Bloodborne honestly looks better, also the Chalice Dungeon actually having part in some of the areas is cool.
they really aren't stealthy sometimes with what areas were never finished, both the school just being a fucking lake basically and the broken arch-stone in demon souls are very blatant to what happened
I never even knew Snake Ball concepts were shown off at any point.

Rebecca in the woods sounds like it could have been fun. It would have been less jarring than having her beat the shit out of a Tyrant and Marcus, but then conveniently forgetting all of it by the next day.
I honestly wouldn’t mind if 0, CV, 4 and 5 get retconned. 0 doesn’t have Rebecca come across Marcus in the copy mansion. I’d avoid the Marcus mansion and have the first half of the game take place in the woods and the game finish off in the train that takes Rebecca to the Spencer mansion. CV stars Chris and goes over his time in Europe, with Jill joining near the end as they take on Umbrella similar to what happened in the Umbrella Chronicles. I’d like to see super speed Wesker not be a thing either. For 4, I’d rather see Operation Javier be made into a full game. For 5, just have it cover Chris and Jill finding Spencer. Wesker babies is uncovered and unravels Wesker enough for Chris to kill him. Chris plows Jill in Spencer’s wheelchair and then they fuck off into the sunset. 6 doesn’t happen, and 7 remains a stand-alone story.

Speaking of Resident Evil, they should of stuck with the original ideas for 5 instead of fucking it over and giving out zombie action shooter in africa. I know that KOTOR II had some cut content but that requires a patch to get fixed. I also know that if SEGA didn't cancel Sonic Xtreme and gave Sonic Team more time on developing games most of the sonic games would be at least good at worst. Then again i'm pretty sure most rushed games if given more time would've turned out better

>Final Fantasy 10
I'd like to see the original concept come to fruition, if only for how bizarre it is.
Everyone in the world dies at age 17. This would have a story examine what it means to be a parent in such a society, what sort of goals you'd have in life, and imprint a feeling of impending dread throughout.
>Final Fantasy 12
The first director had a fuckhuge stack of notes alluding to a much larger game, more characters, bigger parties, and just generally better. Basch would have been the protagonist, Vaan the dickass thief, and Penelo probably nonexistent.
Then he fell ill and the guy who stepped in to fill his shoes didn't think he could do the thing justice so he trimmed the fuck out of the plans.

OP when they wanted to make an RE prequel for the N64 that was back when the 64DD was announced. They were put in a tough spot when it failed and had no choice but to change consoles thanks to the low capacity cartridges. And RE4 was supposed to be GC exclusive, it was part of the Capcom Five deal they did with Nintendo. Their shareholders demanded that RE4 be ported to the PS2 and director quit over it.

You know that Resident Evil was based off a straight to VHS horror movie that had a grizzly bear as a main monster who was blown up with a rocket launcher at the end right? And that they used the Winchester Mystery House for the setting. They pretty much throw shit at the wall and sees what sticks instead of having any long term plan or story ideas. If this series is still going 10 years from the T-virus might be extraterrestrial or interdimensional, perhaps they'll throw in time travel or magic. There's no point in trying to make a sensible storyline considering its origins.
Trying to find more information about the grizzly bear horror movie but I can't at the moment. Pretty sure I read it in an interview that EGM magazine did long ago.

Every Persona game directed by Katsura Hashino (3-5). If you follow news about the beta content or rumored ideas about the series you find a lot of stuff that sounds way more interesting than anything we got.
>At one point Yukiko was supposed to be the killer and her Hyena laughter was supposed to be the hint about it
Already a better betrayal plot than Akechi. Who even in the marketing materials was obviously the traitor. "Oh? Who could this party member who's face they're not showing be? I sure hope it's not THE FUCKING TRAITOR!"
>During the concept phase, none of the investigation team members had candy colored anime hair
I don't think I even need to explain why this would be an improvement. But basically, this one move would greatly separate it from and make it stand out from other anime games on the market.
>We could have had Pompadour Kanji
Enough said
>Early test levels that are still on P5's disc suggest P5's protag was originally going to live with the Nijima sisters
Already a better premise than living with a random guy who's customer knows your parents through work. It's not even said if he's a friend of your parents. So your parents dumped you on some stranger with two levels of hard separation from them? They really expect me to believe that shit? Living with the Nijima sisters makes much more sense narratively. You can just say that Sae wanted to prove her righteousness by reforming a delinquent teenager.
>It's all over P5's art book that the art team originally created the characters to be less popping with color and other such things to help create the dark game about societal rebellion that it was originally pitched as. Such as Kawakami at one point having physical features that'd show off how tired she was. Unlike her final depiction that shows her to have an immaculate appearance that betrays the fact that she's supposed to be older.
>You'll find quotes talking about these kinds of things all over the book
But all of those quotes end with the director being a faggot that wanted everything to look beautiful. Making us lose out on more interesting character art for the sake of the director prioritizing the waifus looking kawaii. There are multiple instances in the book where the art team says "We had a different vision of this character starting out, but the director said "make it cuter!" and so we did because he's the director and has seniority and since this is a Japanese company, do what your senior director says OR ELSE"
Honestly, if you really look into it like I did, you'll find that a lot of the problems with 3-5's visuals or story, is the result of the director being a controlling jackass and huge waifu faggot. Most of the time with NuPersona stuff, the more that comes out about the early state of the games were, the angrier I get about the products we actually got. To the point where I want to take all the rejected concepts that are better than the final products, and make my own damn games with them.

Y'know what? I'm gonna go a step further. When you look at every fucking artbook for these games. You see a very annoying pattern. These games always start off with designs that you could maybe believe were actual Japanese teenagers. They all start with muted hair colors (like you'd see in actual Japan) and don't have such over-the-top design features for the most part. And it seems that as these games get further along in development, the character designs get more and more into looking like generic anime bullshit.
And you can really tell this is the kind of problem Hashino has. Because pretty much every fan of P5 has heard about how Hifumi was at one point going to be an optional party member but couldn't because time constraints, which sounds rad as fuck. But what do they do when they get the chance to make P5 Royal? They don't go back and make Hifumi a party member. Instead they make another candy color haired waifu. I truly believe that P5, while good, is only a fraction of how good it could have been because the development hell it went through gave them WAY too much time to second guess themselves on a lot of things they did for the original concept.
To put it simply, there's a lot of bullshit about fate in P5, A REAL FUCKING LOT of it. To the point where it feels like retroactive decisions. You really get the impression from the early parts of the game that yeah, Japanese society really fucked you over, do something about it. Whereas the second half of the game is a bunch of contrived fate bullshit.
>Sojiro knew Wakaba, who cracked the code of the cognitive world
>Who was then killed by Shido, the guy who put you under probation.
>This probation, put you in the hands of Sojiro, who again knows Wakaba
>Where you meet Wakaba's daughter who helps you on your revenge crusade because she too was wronged by Shido
>Who happens to be an excellent hacker and is the only reason why half the things the Phantom Thieves do in the second half of the game even work
>Your school's principal just so happened to be a part of Shido's organization, which causes a string of events that'll help the Phantom Thieves discover there's something bigger going on
>If the principal wasn't killed by Shido, the Phantom Thieves could have potentially never have found out about Shido and stopped him
>Akechi, your lawfag rival, out of nowhere is revealed to be Shido's bastard son
>Which turns out to be his motivation for committing all the murders and atrocities that would ultimately lead you and the Phantom Thieves to Shido
>And the Phantom Thieves defeating Akechi and Shido was all a part of Igor and Yalbadoth's bet to see if law or chaos would prevail (which is just lazy writing because we already did that in P2 you creatively bankrupt motherfuckers)
>This reveals that Akechi was doomed from the start, because lawfags always lose to chaosfags, this is just an irrefutable fact. Fuck off lawfags
>It was fate that either you Akechi had to die, making his contrived and seemingly forced death on the Ark into an actually forced death that the narrative couldn't survive without
The game goes from "We live in a society" to "You're playing a rigged game" but I don't believe that. Because the "game" you're playing seems rigged in your favor the second you find out there's a connection between Sojiro and Shido. The game is supposed to be rigged AGAINST you but you meet every single person who'd be the most important to helping you win. If they wanted us to believe the game was rigged against us. They should have had us living with the Nijima sisters.
Operating as the Phantom Thieves while living with the prosecutor who personally knows the kid investigating you and herself eventually ends up taking over the case? Now there's an actual set of extremely unfavorable circumstances! A lot more unfavorable than "your classmates think you're a thug and you live in an attic." The game undercuts it's own ideas and themes and every opportunity while what little we know about the "beta" version of the game seems to suggest a game that fully understands what it was and what it should be doing.

The problem with the school is that it's technically all there. But half of it is in the nightmare realm and half of it is the lakeside building. Even with that in mind though, the lakeside building is pathetic. When I hear "college" I expect an entire campus. Not what appears to be a library/commons building and a yard.

iirc even including the nightmare sections are clearly missing pieces; its not the whole intended school even if you combine them.
They clearly did just pull what they had left for the nightmare sections though, outside of the rom entrance just being reused for Ebrietas complete with the teleport body still being there.
The game even mentions a tomb under the school still as well, its not a very clean job in terms of what they did with the school parts.

Hmm I wonder if they recycled those ideas for Berry's campaign in Revelations 2, where you go through forests, discover abandoned buildings/ villages and stuff.
You also walk through abandoned, monster infested apartment buildings, which is awesome as a setting, but the game kinda wasted opportunities with a terrible framerate and annoying mechanics.

Silent Hill 2 had some content missing, which was shown in a rare 7 minute trailer in a really shitty quality which I found on a game magazine CD.
Pyramid Head would chase you though the apartment building, which never happened and I was really disappointed, and I never figured out if it's actually in the game. It seems you were able to hide in the washing room and it would walk by. Basically, the bars which block its way in the game were gone originally.
The trailer shows nurse monsters in the city during the day, probably around the hospital, while they only appear in their altered version at night after leaving the hospital in the game (I think?).
There was a cutscene with Pyramid Head furiously attacking other monsters at the Hotel, only seen as shadows on the wall.
There also was a cutscene with Pyramid Head about to rape a nurse monster. You see her sitting on a shelf, immobile, and Pyramid Head gets closer and spreads her legs, then the cutscene ends. There's a cutscene in Silent Hill Origins with the Butcher reminding me of that.

>Already a better betrayal plot than Akechi. Who even in the marketing materials was obviously the traitor. "Oh? Who could this party member who's face they're not showing be? I sure hope it's not THE FUCKING TRAITOR!"
Funny you mention this, i know i will get laughed out of here but i really did not know it was Akechi, i mean it did not hint as well as it should have but you know, i preferred that over Persona 5 being Pancake boy. Persona 5 has a real significant issue with hinting heavily and then memory holing to the point where you kind of feel like its too abstract to know what is going on. To be fair if i remember right Hashino is being moved over to Re;Fantasy and a new team is doing the Persona series now. The Yukiko thing seems like that is what they were trying to pull in P5 but comes across a little bit odd. Irony is Kadoka from Danganronpa is a much greater writer especially on the whole detective/plot narrative thing. Hashino should have focused on a mysterious organization thing with a couple of plot twists.
>I don't think I even need to explain why this would be an improvement. But basically, this one move would greatly separate it from and make it stand out from other anime games on the market.
To be fair i do think a trade-off would be to have candy colored hair in the worlds they enter and outside of it being normal hair.
You know what would have been better is if maybe he did not live with them, but was later court ordered to be in the house with the Nijima sisters, due to the plot later on with Futaba and various other things to pile up.Hell even if Makoto was weird to have a live in situation you could have her beginning to move out and living on her own(i know its a stretch but its much better). Its funny how both of us are coming up with better ideas here.
I disagree slightly, you can have balance, and can have both. Dismissing everything because its not exactly what you wanted is only trying to verify your own anger and to create a situation where you will only become an extreme fringe despite knowing that there should have been changes that should have never happened. Dismissing everything as NuPersona is no different than the newer fans calling the hardcore oldschool purists oldfags who dismiss anything new as out of touch. Middle ground can be reached always. Stylistic things can be neat, as can muted things. Its just about finding harmony is all.

I find it ironic because i like Hifumi as well. She was my favorite character next to Makoto and i think the reason that was given is because Hifumi and Makoto would look too much alike, which would be true, but also it gives a bad excuse to then include a red haired waifu girl which looks not much different from P3P's main girl and you know fans are going to wonder why she was not included as a female option instead. The main issue stems from the fact that the development cycle was in hell for 10 years, and then you put in an extra 4 years for alterations to the story and events, adding in minigames, but then you keep forgetting to add in Hifumi and decide to put in a alternative female character. Which i think is dumb as well.Still a solid game but could have been much greater than it had been.
Holy fuck anon i HAD THE SAME problem. I felt like due to this being in development hell it had all these issues and it came across as decisions not fully understood or realized. I did like the True Ending a lot and i do give it credit where its due but i often feel like how it got there was just so much exposition, so much narrative that criss-crosses between each other that you cant formulate what is going on. I have no clue if Persona 5 Royals fixes much on the plot end, but i think it does in some instances from what i remember.

Yes, Hashino is incharge of Re: Fantasy, there's no official announcement for who the next Persona director will be. I guess we won't know until the next game is announced. But the way things are stacked up right now, we're probably getting a P3 remake before P6. It just makes sense.
>Tons of art assets and animations based on P3 are complete to the point where a good 1/3rd of the art for a remake is already done.
>P3 protag is in Royal as a challenge boss with P3 personas and battle animations
>If they were switching hands, it'd make sense for the new director to cut their teeth on a remake before making a new game
>People have been asking for it and Atlus even put it as an option in their customer survey
Royal fixes some things, but leaves a lot of the base game's story mostly unchanged. The only things that get significant enough changes to truly say they're fixed is the ending and Akechi. Because the true ending they've added gives Akechi a more fulfilling end to his character and there's much better stakes to defeating the new palace.

You are right, the og RE4 was quite a handful; I vaguely remember that teaser/demo, it was the fucking shit. The new camera allowed for a sense of personality never seen before in a RE.
Still, you have to admit, the actual RE4 is a fucking good game. Shame they bastardized the formula in later entrys but still a great game. In a better timeline, the og RE4 would be a dlc or expansion, or just extra content, kinda like the red woman's chapter (forgot her name)

RE4 was a fine game. The issue is that the series lacked direction after RE3, and had become a bit stale by CV. RE4 broke the mold, which was refreshing for the series, but then Capcom decided to go all in on the action. 5 still felt like an RE game, but it had the problem of trying to put an end to a series that had no direction. 6 served no purpose and 7 was more of a sidestory than a main entry. If Capcom was intelligent, they would remake Operation Javier as a full game.

Demon's souls was originally going to be a permadeath game. When you died, your character would turn into a red phantom that would hang around where you died, and if you killed it, you get your equipment back on the new character. If it killed you, it would leave and show up in someone else's game. They could kill it to get your gear.

Obsidian can't make a game for shit. They write a good story, setting and characters but their games are universally so fucking buggy and held together with spit and duct tape that they genuinely need another company to clean up after them. Reminder that on release day, New Vegas had a bug that prevented people from actually being able to launch it, and they couldn't figure out how to fix it. Bethesda had to do it for them.

Fuck Obsidian of today, but every company essentially hired them and then axed their development time by a year or more. Then when the game comes out buggy as hell they rely on people just going "lol it's an obsidian title what do you expect?"
For example
Knights of the Old Republic 2: EA cut a year off the development time.
Fallout New Vegas: Developed in less than a year and made more money than 4.

Going by the artwork for Makoto and Morgana it's obvious they were going to be completely different characters and that they were scrapped and redesigned at the last second to be more generic. Morgana was originally going to be a girl that could transform into anything and they were going to take Ryuji's place as the temperamental retard that constantly goes nuts and flies off the rails (this is why Ryuji doesn't actually do anything insane throughout the story but is still treated as a retarded loose cannon) instead of being a white knight that tells you to go to bed and Makoto was originally going to be a thug that beat the shit out of people (might've been a side plot where she keeps the school clean through brute force) which would've explained why everyone was afraid of her and would constantly make comments about how she might kick their asses even though she was nothing but an autistic spazz. They didn't even bother replacing her character with anything in the main story, which is why how she acts during the main story and how she acts during her confidant story are two completely different characters. Ryuji was also going to be pure comedic relief (as suggested by the fact that his mask at one point was a clown mask) but I guess they decided to just turn him into the loud mouthed punching bag for the group because they decided not to use Morgana for that anymore.

It was a 4 person shooter game with kinda tf2/overwatch kinda classes with their own quirky and likable personality traits.
The company had the great idea to get a focus group of COD playing kiddies to tell them what kind of game they should make instead of just having the devs themselves making that they wanted. The game ended up being a generic dudebro shooter that no one wanted to play and thus, it sank into the depths of obscurity.
Its no wonder you've never heard about it.

I don't know about the only thing, but combat was definitely the biggest gameplay problem.
The story had plenty of problems, not just in what it doesn't tell you (fucking why do you need to watch all this supplemental material just to know what's going on?) but in the pacing (the last half the game is fucking railroaded at full speed when they realised they were desperately out of time and needed to push this fucking thing out the door).
And then they cut the DLC short which would have helped explain all the other problems with the story.
FFXV is, in my mind, a bigger fuck up than XIII. And that's quite the accomplishment. As hands-off as FXIII's combat was, at least it felt like a Final Fantasy game, and not "hover in the air for no reason and have whatever weapon you want appear in your hand" lite-action bullshit, the only flavour of shit Nomura seems capable of serving up on a plate made of belts and zippers.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. DISTRUST > Danganronpa.
For those of you who might not be familiar, Danganronpa is a series of video games about students at an elite high school who get isolated from society and stuck in a "killing game" in which a student who successfully murders another without being found out by a majority of the class is released and the rest of the class dies if the murderer succeeds. Conversely, if the murderer fails to hide their crime, they alone are punished via an execution. The guilty party is discovered through a class trial in which members of the class review the evidence (gathered in a point-and-click fashion prior) amongst themselves and attempt to determine the true guilty party. Danganronpa is very exaggerated and anime, has what it calls a "psychopop style" (i.e. all blood is neon pink), and has some gameplay element during the trial in which refutations of evidence are stylized as shooting bullets containing contradicting words at statements that are in error.
DISTRUST was the beta for Danganronpa, which was fundamentally similar but a lot grittier. The main changes were aesthetic and that the trial gameplay was more of a visual novel with less mini-games. Originally a Trust/Distrust meter tracked how well the other classmates regarded you which would affect how characters treat you during investigations and would affect which murders occur (instead of being an invariable story like the actual series). Additionally, there would be branching options during trials that could result in them having alternate resolutions. One of the biggest differences was that the whole feel of the game was designed to be grittier. You can see it in the first execution and even the version of it that actually made it into Danganronpa 1 (which is mostly unchanged from DISTRUST) when contrasted with the rest of Danganronpa 1's executions. There's a level of brutality to it where you see the class watching on as one of their peers is given a brutal, but earned punishment and because of the focus on the class's role you get an impression that they are complicit in and responsible for the execution, which is a significantly darker impression than you get watching the other executions in the series.
Danganronpa's "psychopop" and aggressively anime aesthetic seems like an attempt to run away from the raw brutality of DISTRUST, which makes me prefer the latter because it's more honest and distinct.
Spoilers for the video if you haven't played/watched Danganronpa 1.

There were times when games were changed for the better in development. Rare, but it happened. Like the time Valve realised using the gravity gun in HL2 was fucking fun, so they retooled the entire game to use it more instead of just being another gun-based FPS. Considering what the guns and firefights were like in HL2, throwing toilets and radiators was much preferred in the end.
And then there's Metroid Prime, where Retro weren't doing anything interesting with the morph ball, and Miyamoto basically told them "if you don't make it interesting and fun the game is cancelled" so they made those 2D platforming puzzle sections for the morph ball, and those underground mazes and stuff.
But most of the times games in development get dumbed down and have interesting things removed.

Ironically, they return to this concept that Morgana can turn into anything with him being able to turn into a helicopter in Royal and he'll probably turn into a fucking Tank or something at some point in Scramble.
We can complain all we want, but the reality is that there are versions of these characters we'll never get. The artbook gives a peak and god damn does it look so good.
>Original artbook has a suave, smug asshole protag who wears a scarf (that'd probably trail behind him like the scarf from Shinobi PS2), uses real guns and drives fast cars instead of a fucking hippy van
>Schizophrenic female Morgana who's absolutely treasure crazy and flips the fuck out, getting the party into constant trouble because of it.
>A party member that uses a crossbow
>Teenagers that look like real Japanese teenagers, better selling the believability of the game
>Original art suggests that Ann would have been your first party member instead of Ryuji
>Personas first forms were mutilated and chained up
There was just this grit to the original art that was lost, y'know? Like it went from a grungy theme to a stylish theme as the development dragged on and it's really disappointing. I'm working on my own turn-based RPG and when that's done. I might make one based on the original concepts of P5

Wasn't the gravity gun fucking ancient in dev though, thats like noting the combine are a good enemy that was added later on.i'm too lazy to check how old the phys-gun files are Its use as a dev tool probably predates any form of half life 2 even having a story draft.
Obviously some clumsy gimmicks from half life 2 were cut, like the Hydra and manhack arcade for probably good reasons.could have just kept shit like particle storms and hydras as a fun non-enemy hazard though
manhack arcade just seems like it was too much work for its own good though, to make it usable at least; it did have a functional version but its sickening to use.
The crappyness of firefights was probably related to cuts itself anyway, and retarded playtesters realistically.featuring dynamic resupply, a really fucking terrible idea slapped in last minute

I also get the feeling that the original script was way grittier and grounded in dark topics. Just compare the first palace to the rest of the game.
>First arc about a high school PE teacher molesting students.
>Best friend of one of your party members driven to suicide abuse by said teacher.
>Que the first palace of the game.
>The arc immediately after that is a cartoon supervillain plot about an artist the steals his students artwork.
Barring Futaba's palace nothing else in the game even attempts that level of social commentary/edginess. We may have missed out because whoever was responsible for the final draft of the script got cold feet.

With the incredible volume of garbage that came out last decade, so great that the stuff that wasn't garbage drowned and disappeared, I wonder if bad games are being made on purpose. Because if they're not, duh, I want the original idea of "a good game" that's being scrapped somewhere along the process.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. Thinking about it, i'd take multiplayer over the spectacle of the final SOTC.because a multiplayer version would definitely look like the rough early versions.
Or the cut Colossi as well in place of the finalized graphics as well.specifically the ones that were in the game at a point, 64 would have made a disaster game guaranteed
Something about some of the bright colors of some of the early Colossi designs is pretty nice as well. I'd take the early difficulty that was pretty quickly cut out.sometimes very literally like stuff like the worm/roc
The cut areas that were actually implemented look pretty decent as well, and the areas that looked to be intended to be accessed like the tree and top of the shrine just seem like fun additions.
The rope thing also sounds pretty cool, course it seems to have never actually made it into the game and was just a concept.

If only Miyamoto would stop re-re-remaking 64 and let people do their work in peace we would probably get a SFA remake like the original DP but without any hamfisted stuff like they did in the final product. I maybe asking too much but it can be done but only if Shiggy fucks off and stop rehashing the same shit over and over again since he refuses to think outside the box. Can still be canon to the main storyline without being a spin-off.

Its about an "artist" who steals the work of his students and essentially destroys their lives, how is that "cartoon supervillain plot" tier? If you don't know how the world of art works, basically even if your artwork is otherwise original, if its according to the style of another aritst its considered plagairism. The students he ripped off can never become big name because their "master" took credit for their art, their artstyle and subsequently their ability receive any kind of significant recognition for making art even if down the line they try to separate and launch their own career. Suicide is involved. Just goes to show you don't really understand the kind of pitfalls you can face out in the real world.

Pathologic 2. The Marble Nest is just a touched up demo, and now we know the dev team is cutting people just to make sure that they can make ends meet. They mentioned that they will finish the other two campaigns (Bachelor & Changeling), but from how they were talking about it, it seems as though it won't be as long or have as many features/suffering as Haruspex. That bothers me, it added so much to the atmosphere and to how compelling the game was for it to be impossibly hard. Fantastic story, great reimagining and rebirth of the original game. As great as HD's writing was, the game was terrible and Changeling's story felt rushed. I hope they can finish the other two's stories and make them feel as engaging as Burakh's.

There's textures in the game that have more relevant story information than the actual story, and I think some characters might have ended up cut for DLC which may or may not be better than just not using it at all like the first Xenoblade. At least the DLC was free with the western version as a consolation.
>2
I actually think they managed to get everything in mostly, and the one thing they couldn't fit in was what amounted to a playable flashback that they then expanded into an entirely new smaller game that plays better than 2 overall, so I think it was a pretty good deal. Given Xenoblade DE will have the shoulder as an actual area, I feel like Monolith really wants to finish the games they make but just don't have the chance and will jump on any opportunity to do so, even if it involves DLC.

I only played 0, 1, 2, 4, Code Veronica, REmake and a few others. The first and second game (PS1 not remakes) let you know just how much potential the setting has. Unfortunately, it basically turned into a Saturday morning cartoon where the series started rehashing the first game's story. Eventually 4 and 5 came out, and they decided rather than untangle the mess that was the lore or explain anything it'd be better to just nuke everything.

How do you release a game where 60% of the missions from only 2 out of 3-6 chapters are missing without any trace of their existence?
It's more likely that Kojima was sick of MGS and just made a product worse than Unity asset flips
The real MGS5 is Peace Walker and the only thing cut was lethal melee weapons for the player, enemies performing CPR properly on near-death allies, and regretabbly some side ops including a VS ZEKE fight but that was really unbalanced depending on item developement level either for the ZEKE pilot or the fighters

The original idea for Dragon Age 2 might've made it as decent as DAO. It was extremely rushed.. and then when Bioware wanted to salvage what they could by making an expansion, EA canceled it and just told them to move on with DAI.
In short though, Hawke was supposed to be the Inquisitor. They salvaged some plots from that expansion (like Flemeth and the Solas stuff) and put it in DAI instead. Merrill and the Warden's storylines with the mirror were supposed to play a bigger part too.

The third palace was legitimately the worst and really dragged down the tone of the game. Let me remind you all what happened: A snooty class-prez type girl pisses off yakuza thugs without thinking of any possible repercussions, then she asks the thugs to take her to the head boss, then they actually fucking do it, and then the mafia head actually lets them all go and only asks that they give him money after a very generous amount of time passes.
The ones after that are pretty downplayed and dont seem very impactful, society-wise, with the exception being the semi final boss who I wish could have been written a bit better. We saw how he treated Joker when he was younger and essentially fucked up his life, but we needed to see how he effected other people, or how deep his corruption rooted.
The casino palace was just dogshit.

>where you have to die 12 times until you find out what the fuck they wanted you to do in that scene
As a resident evil fanboi I can say that the 1st one was my favorite with close second Code Veronica on Treamkast
in general Code Veronica was the last one I enjoyed
and the problem with RE6 is not even that it is too action oriented.
For example I loved the melee combat and I always tried to kill zombies with some dank uppercut or impaling them with one of my arrows after nailing them on the wall. that is stylish as fuck
and tbh I wish there was a way to use machetes to cut off zombie limbs or onehit them by cutting their head off in one strike
what I never liked is those new mutant zombies that are fast and can insta-kill you, shoot guns and even operate helicopters to chase you
and why the fuck do I need to shoot a zombie a dozen times in his head to finally die. one shot to the heart should be enough too, yes even with the weakest pistol. you basically have to use the magnum any time you want some actual firepower
for the ammo/supplies thing my thought is just
either you limit the types of weapons there is or you just let people pack any amount of ammo and herbs
because what good is having a dozen different guns and ammo types, 2 different grenades and 2 different herb types, sprays and grenade shells, arrows and all the other crap when you cannot even carry half of it
