Regular locomotion doesn't require a full room to move around in. Quite the contrary. You only need enough room to move your arms because you use your controller to do the rest. Teleportation is what requires a full room because you'll need to move your body for finer movements and turning around.

This is similar to the 3D glasses issue. 3D movies of the 80s and 90s were objectively better than they are today. The reason is because some people got headaches from wearing 3D glasses. So the solution was to tone down 3D to the point of there being no reason what so ever to even watching 3D movies. This is exactly what happened today with VR. A few faggots got motion sickness so now VR can't be any fun,.

It's definitely true that earlier movies that used polarized 3D, like Micheal Jackson's Captain EO, did a LOT more with the 3D technology than the majority of movies released today. Stuff like the evil queen constantly reaching out of the screen with her giant fingernails, or the cute little mascot flying out of the screen and hovering right in front of the viewer. You never see things like that in movies today.
Though I think that's less to do with people getting headaches, and more to do with studios realizing they can just shoot a 2D movie, get it cheaply converted to 3D, and charge everyone an extra $5 per ticket.

There are many other ways to prevent VR motion sickness. If I recall, it's darkening the edges and corners of the screen (a sort of flashlight effect) since stuff entering the peripheral vision is what does it for some people. Other methods are keeping the line of horizon as stable as possible and making movement analogue instead of a binary speed. It's why Resident Evil 7 rarely made anyone motion sick but Minecraft does.
You can blame Gabe Newell instead, it's his insistence on teleportation that's responsible, most likely and it especially will be if HLVR has Teleportation (assuming it comes out at all).

Most people don't have an empty square room with 10 feet of space unless it's a bedroom. It's not about being poor, it's about the ridiculous limitations of the technology and how they don't translate to the average modern home, unless you live in a rich city, which most don't because there's loads of homeless, shit on the streets, and degenerating society in general. >If you actually want to WALK in VR, you need a big room. Teleportation requires a swivel chair, you fucking dumbass.
Teleportation typical requires walking (e.g. The Lab) because of limitations placed on teleportation. Where as full locomotion can be done in a swivel chair because if you aren't close enough to something, you can just move your analog stick forward a bit. "Casuals" play massive hours (check peoples stats in fotnite or lol)
"standart" video-games have visual movement compleatly disconnected from inner input (zero inner ear perception).
VR jumps between 2 modes.
1. When head movement (looking around leaning etc) and its inner ear perception are connected and properly accompanied by video
2. When player moves around by controller and this movement doesn't produce any inner ear stimulus (standard gaming mode).
Problem is VR jumps between these modes there is no consistency and player can't become accustomed to stimulus.
Or You can kill mode 2 completely what developers do with full room movement and teleports.
