I need some advice /v/, time for a blog post
A millenia ago I played and enjoyed League of Legends. I played it for a good 2 years, spent money on it and then quit until just a few days ago. I got interested in their take on Autochess so I tried to log into my old account to play it, turns out my password got leaked ages ago and someone took it over.
I place a ticket through Riots support team to get it back and within the hour I get an email saying that im confirmed as the rightful owner so they change the email to my current one and let me change the password, never expected it to be that easy or for Riot's support staff to be that competent. I log into their client and I get hype as fuck because the dude that stole my account is currently in a game and I get to see all the reactions from his group of friends as they unravel whats going on. It didnt go as planned.
First thing I noticed was that the guy has spent a lot of money on the account. Bought a ton of skins and shit. He's also played it almost every day for two year but at this point I still dont give much of a shit, he shouldn't have stole it in the first place right?. I messaged a couple people on his friends list because I wanted to bait some reactions from them but theyre all pretty pleasant about everything. First guy I messaged I took by surpise so he called me son, I immediately felt a soft hit to my empathy bone. I explained the situation and he just says he understands and then laughs.
Second guy I messaged was ready for me, he explained how they were from China shocker and are currently in the US for university. Apparently the guy that was using my account bought it from someone so that he could play with his friends without grinding the account to level 30, which is the point you need to be at to play ranked in league. I start feeling pretty empathetic at this point and even a little guilty that I took the account back at all but I still stood my ground when the guy asked if he could just share the account with me until he goes back to China after they graduate. He's polite and pleasant the whole time, says he understands that it is my account and accepts my decision. After that he tells me good night and logs off.
So now I don't know what to do. The possibility exists that this is all an elaborate lie but he was too eloquent with the explanation for me to think its just a lie. If he was just some dumbass that stole an account then spent almost 3 years of time and money on it only for it to get taken away I wouldn't feel even a little guilty. Instead he's some dumbass that bought and account and didnt think about the possibility that it was stolen and could be taken away from him down the line and I cant help but feel guilty and empathetic for the dude. I see myself as having a few options here. I could keep my account and ignore their please, share it with him until he returns to China or go full moralfag and just give him the account completely.
