You want to either match up the edge, or clip the piece on a corner and split it up to set up another block. You could also use one of the corners to fill in the fourth piece of an incomplete block and just hope the rest of it becomes manageable garbage, but that's a risk, especially at higher speeds.

>Remastered

It's a good port but it's not exactly the same as the original, especially with the change to the special blocks. And whoever approved that change to the Holiday in Summer skin needs their eyes checked.

Well the only reason I'm really playing it is that it happened to get a PC port. There are plenty of games I have emulated but it always pales in comparison to playing it on the original hardware, and I don't have the money and space for a bunch of consoles and shit.

Thanks for the image breakdown though. So far I'm stuck on Shake Your Body or however that song is called. Gonna see how far past it I can get now.

Neither, the random falling blocks scenario is one of the worst puzzle game formulas and the puzzler renaissance emerged in the '90s when people finally grew out of the confines of the Tetris formula.

It really doesn't, standing above a big visible playing field of random blocks waiting to be manipulated is starkly different from your own range of focus being the next two or three pieces the game warns you are coming up next from the top. The tactical possibilities in the former are vastly greater than falling block-style games.

I agree, the tetris attack/pokemon puzzle league static block formula is a much more tactical and engaging style of game that lets you make multiple decisions based on your blocks. Setting up a long chain or spamming small 4-5 blocks are both legitimate strategies and in multiplayer scenarios you sometimes need a mixture of both to effectively beat your opponent. It's a test of pattern recognition, tactics and speed.

See, even in your APNGs you can't hide how much of the game is reactionary. There is very little build planning because the RNG gives you the pieces where it wants them to go instead of you receiving the pieces and being able to decide for yourself where they go. I also know that you can't show off multiplayer because garbage is so useless that in a match between two highly skilled players it becomes meaningless and the matches drag on until one player becomes too tired to play any longer.

I'd be more willing to try Puyo if it had a fucking INTERMEDIATE tutorial. Most guides assume you'll get the exact pairs of puyos you need. The main problem is no one tells you what the fuck to do when you don't, leading to wasted puyo (and losing vs anyone competent). See pic related for simple example:

>done with the 1st floor. need a blue to finish your GTR transition

>game gives you yellow-red, green-yellow, green-green

>no fucking idea what to do

I always see nips on videos managing to turn seemingly useless puyo into more extensions or tails, but I just can't do it.

Too bad Puzzle Fighter is awfully flawed

>hopelessly imbalanced (Ken has best gem pattern, followed by Donovan. Chun Li and Ryu are worse than motherfucking Dan, who gets a very useful damage boost)

X' mode in updated re-releases doesn't quite fix things (counter gem patterns are not very relevant in multiplayer, where battles usually end in 1 chain, see next point)

>one-sided curbstomps: attacking player has crushing advantage over defending player, who has halved chain power

>the fucking unskippable diamond ruins everything

>the diamond bug (turn diamond in tight space right before lock delay runs out and it will ignore the damage penalty)

I'm also not too sure about the gem distribution algorithm, but I think it's awful that you can go through 10 pairs without seeing a single crash gem, especially considering you only have 1 preview.

>>16713577

>There is very little build planning because the RNG gives you the pieces where it wants them to go instead of you receiving the pieces and being able to decide for yourself where they go.

The planning is very much there, it just happens in a more dynamic context because you're able to alter the plan in the middle of a chain, and with less wait between the planning and execution phases.

And no, there actually is a huge degree of fast puzzle-solving involved at high-level puzzle league play. As >>16712017 mentioned, merely throwing giant 13x garbage blocks one after the other may look impressive but it's not how you win matches against decent players. Really good players instead focus on 1) deluging their opponent with varying degrees of 2x-4x blocks and small combos because those are much harder to react to, and 2) keeping the garbage near the top of their own screen in order to minimize time spent converting garbage to blocks. Aggressive play in puzzle league is a bit of a double-edged sword–by playing more risky on your own column you make things harder for your opponent.

I will say I don't think puzzle league multiplayer is the final word in competitive puzzle games, but it is at least better than the lame garbage in most falling-block puzzlers that are based on a formula never designed to have anything to do with more than one player. Most of them have a 'snowball' problem where matches are decided early on because the falling garbage sets up a feedback loop where early garbage makes the receiving player need to clean it up before developing their own chains while the sending player gets a bunch of a free time to set up even bigger garbage attacks.

I put the solid blocks there because I didn't know how to separate the next pieces from the actual stack. Anyway, what you did would pop the yellows, then you'd get a 2-chain with the greens and reds.

Adds a couple extra modes. X is original. Y is Columns-like. Z reminds me of Konami's weird puzzle tokkaedama game, except with crash gems, a 4-block reticule, and you can combine gems.

<HD-remix: X360 (Xboner has backwards compatibility), PS3

Adds another mode with more balanced dropsets. only problem the is the CAUTION (originally 1-10 garbage) and WARNING (originally 11-30 garbage) signs are swapped. Also the gems look hideous in my opinion.

audio related is included with the game, at least for PC version.
