I actually follow tomatoanus, and he is one of the few runners that is pretty chill. If you want the jest of how Any% Fallout 4 runs goes here, here's a video. He does great commentary.
It is kind of impressive how the Fallout speedrunning community figures out some of it out. I missed it, but I have seen it too many times that I knew what to expect. Also, they have fun runs like Sex% where you have to have sex with Magnolia. Also, the runner does an anthology run which is essentially F1, F2, F3, FNV, then F4 back-to-back which is close to 1 hour and 45 minutes.
It is a shame that kungkobra did not run Any% for New Vegas, because they just discovered a new technique very recently and it is quite hilarious but saves a lot of time.

Cost scales up with each use of an effect, but you could just keep killing the runner right after each boss kill to keep them from progressing indefinitely. I'm pretty sure it's really just a hex editor linked up to a simple external program that reads the values from the game, performs some simple checks on values, and changes some values depending on donations. The game itself has no idea about the changes being made, just like it wouldn't if you used a game genie. In most cses the program just has to flip a bit like cuccos_angry or ice_physics, or in/decrement a value like bombs.

Fairy Bloom Freesia, Elona, Wizardry, and some 2hu games let you play as one. Growlanser apparently has a romanceable one. I need much more than that. It's kinda sad just how specialised some let themselves become, though. I've a lot of respect for the many runners who showed up and clearly know their shit about games, not just a game. Competitive games, for instance, have a lot of carryover in fundamentals, as do all games. Because of all those things, the idea of someone being so committed to gaming, yet being so bad at it, is kinda saddening to me. The idea seems just too mechanical.

I think it depends on how far the WR has progressed and how many mistakes the WR run includes and how quickly the runner recovers from his mistake. Keeping your cool and being able to pull of some backup strat means that even a small slip up wont ruin everything (in most games) and that in turn makes the runner calmer in difficult situations.
Being unable to properly handle a fuck up just means more fuck ups

I think it's more that for normal speedrunning when you mess up majorly you restart the entire run while in a marathon (and normal gaming) you have to play with a suboptimal set up and try to recover momentum. So it's over-relying on rote memorization and not knowing how to improvise or knowing back up strategies.

Yes. A lot of speedrunners don't even actually play the games they run, they pick them up exclusively because they've been told that they're good for running. TASers on the other hand have a lot of in-depth knowledge, which is probably why so many speedrunners just take a lot of their routes from them and just cut out what they can't do without tools.

All in all, the punchy induced banning spree not withstanding, I really enjoyed ESA this year way more than the trannyfest that GDQ has become.
Yet the increasing influence of the GDQ trannies clearly seems to show. I just hope they manage to keep true to themselves and won't fall for the GDQ faggots lies of "growing big".
