Roleplay is all right if people are playing along. Actually it's autists who ruin it because they cannot stop trolling or go to designated trolling/non-rp servers, so moderation has to react. Following basic common sense rules (staying in character) isn't that hard.

Talking from personal experience here. But a lot of RP communities in games generally either have a structured admin system (sometimes too structured) with harsh rules to enforce in character play so things don't turn to utter shit…

If it's more open then you'll it's literally just a bunch of 13 year olda trying to be the king of his own internet empire.

Also if there's a woman in the community you can bet they will push to moderate literally everything in one way or another because that's just what women do.

The trick is to actually play an RPG. D&D works because it has a structured system of rules as well as a person orchestrating it. RP systems have strict rules for the same reason, to keep people on the same track of progression, flexibility, and power.

RPing without a game is alright, but it's far better with the structure and direction of a true game. These days you can even do D&D online, or just load up a social-oriented MUD to do what you want.

Harry Potter RP servers can be as autistic as Second Life.

Okay now, one of the biggest reasons is that people rp to escape their mundane lives.

You quickly realize that those who are in oower in rp servers have very weak roles in life. They are employees or shits or gopher boys.

They very rarely have any power over any aspects of their real life so when they gst some power they go nuts with it.
