Much as it pains me as a fan of open source, the blackjack-and-hookers approach only works if there is serious discontent with a board. If it's largely dogma splitting boards up you end up with two ghost towns. Regarding the anime boards I actually think a compromise should be reached with /a/ and /animu/ since I doubt it's quite as dire as you're making it with /a/ and fragmentation is unacceptable when the site as a whole lacks users.

I usually refrain from commenting on these threads since it won't achieve anything and it's just venting. But why is anyone in this thread acting surprised, with the way Mark's been running the site recently? While he was never a good BO his work used to be tolerable, but he's been getting shittier and shittier at his job since late 2018. People are either leaving for semi-dead boards, or just quitting vidya imgboards altogether.

Particularly, I'm pretty sure lots of people are getting fed up with the way he's been bumplocking or deleting most threads that derail into any sort of political or ideological discussion. Mark's also been heavily ramping up his enabling of buyfagottry, turning buyfag threads into stickies / cyclicals and monitoring these threads like some yandere stalker to promptly delete any post that trolls, mocks or criticizes buyfagottry. It didn't use to be like this, and when you put two and two together it almost looks like Mark has some kind of agenda about where he wants to take this board.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's worried that any day now, the cake kike is going to start simply silencing speech about piracy and sharing in general.

Not to mention the instances when Mark bumplocks or delete vidya threads with ongoing on-topic, civil, light-hearted discussions for no damn reason at all. I've seen it happen at least twice in the last few weeks, and only because they were threads I was following. I obviously don't open or read every thread, so it probably happened with other threads too.

The only good thing this board's moderation has been doing right in the past months, is that since early this year they've been cracking down more heavily in removing cuckchan-tier, underage-tier template threads.
