TimeSplitters 2 had secret game cartridges you could find to turn your HUD gauntlet into a video game, accessible from the pause menu. There were 3, which were takes on Lunar Lander, Snake, and one I can't remember.

That's alright. Pretty much the entire Challenge mode is various games within games. Behead the Undead, hunting watermelons, sweeping The Big Tipper of empty bottles, etc.

I haven't played Gwent, but Caravan is pretty easy. It's kind of like blackjack. I've forgotten some of the rules, but the gist of it is to get three piles to add somewhere between 21 and 27 I believe. You can only place cards that are of the same suite or in ascending/descending order. For example, if you start a pile with a four and then add a five next turn, you can't put any card under five. Similarly, if you start the pile with a five and then place a four on it, you can't place anything higher than a four on that pile. Face cards have special effects. Kings double the value of a card, queens reverse whether the pile is ascending or descending, jacks remove the card they're placed on, and jokers either remove an entire suite when played on aces, or for everything else remove all cards with the corresponding number. It translates pretty decently to tabletop. The only issue comes with the custom deck portion, but as the first few games you play demonstrate, it is entirely possible to play with a standard 52 card deck.

Can't quite recall if it was SS1 or 2, but there were "fully featured" clones of Wing Commander (with a few dozen missions) and Ultima you could get your hands on, along with a few more simplistic games.

Fallout 4, for all its faults, did allow you to play games on your PipBoy, and even had a fairly elaborate text adventure, which was about the only worthwhile game to be found in the game.

The fishing holes in Majora's Mask 3D are pretty great if you make it a personal challenge to catch every type of fish.

Text adventures in Space Rangers, especially the prison. You can stay there indefinitely, do your prison shit, and just ignore the main game.

Ape Escape 2 had an Ape Soccer minigame where you create teams made of the apes you capture in the regular game, and each has individual stats that relate to how they act when you try to catch them. Great idea. I wish the other entries had stuff to do with the apes after you catch them.

The Doom 3 expansion had those neat interactive screen mini-games. An artillery game, a Breakout clone, and some thing where you shoot approaching asteroids, but those are more neat on a technical level.

Just going to a tavern to play gwent was ultimate comfy, it was also hilarious to think i'm letting aside saving the world for the moment so i can become the best gewnt player of the northen kingdoms.

Digimon world 3 had the card game. It was fucking amazing (aside from the bullshit rule of "it's a draw so you the challenger lose") and you even had the ability to find digimon who'd give you special cards.

Problem with the NTSC version is that after a point in the story leading to the final boss, everyone gets turned into pigs, making the card game unplayable because after beating the final boss, it kicks you back to your last save.

Ruined a 300 hour game file due to that bullshit all because I figured it wouldn't be fucked up and would let me go back in after I beat the final boss like the previous two games.

The minigames in splatoon 1 were fun and every game where you're waiting to get into a lobby or on an incredibly long loading screen should have similar games in them to kill time.

Gwent takes a little getting used to but it doesn't take long. Its a fucking great card game though I can barely name a handful of card games anyway, but I liked it a lot.

I never bothered with Caravan all that much. Lost a couple of games and moved on.

Target shooting minigames in the 3D Zelda entries. I remember playing the OoT timed demo in SSBB and running to Karikoro village to see if I could beat the target gallery there within the 5 minute demo limit it's actually really easy to do if your wondering.

Favorite part of that was being able to play that top down viewed racer at the very start of the game and then later in the game you get to play the in universe 3D sequel to it with the behind the vehicle camera angle. Not sure how many games have a "upgraded" minigame sequel in them but it was a nice addition.

It's very similar to blackjack, but the target number is 20 instead of 21 and you have four cards you can play to change your score.

Lufia 2 ancient cave is its own roguelike. There are rare chests in it with equipment that can be brought back in when you restart; everything else resets and you get all equipment and spells from chests. The difficulty goes higher than the regular game and has a ton of enemies by the end that are only in the cave. New game ++ gives you a bonus mode where you just get access to the cave and can pick which party members you want to take instead of having whatever members you've got when you go to it during regular play.

2nd best is Triple Triad. Simple and strategic and most of all hugely beneficial to the actual game outside of it. IX and XIVs card games suck compared to the original. Random is fine, just refine all your low cards.

Caravan

In Caravan you have to load all three of your caravans to a value under 27 IIRC and above some lower limit, and using special cards fuck over your opponent by either destroying his loads with Jacks, or Doubling them over the limit with Kings

In gwent you just fill lanes, melee, archer artillery with cards to have higher total number bigger than your opponent and having cards for the next round

It's even better IRL because you have way more available card brands, so following the deck building rules you could get a deck consisting exclusively of 10's, 6's Kings and Jacks of same suit but made by different brand
