Nope, it is shit. The rainbow-colored post-apocalyptic setting is nice, but execution was terrible. New Dawn feels like it was made by a different team than FC5, since despite coming out later and reusing the same map and many assets, it does everything worse. Even for a FC game it's janky af, buggy and unpolished. It also has pay to win microtransactions (first time they pulled this shit in a Far Cry game).

Genichiro in Sekiro has literally no redeeming qualities you could say he's noble for wanting his family clan to survive and exist even amongst the interior ministry but all the fucked up and selfish shit he does takes away any justification for his actions. The only thing Dante had to do to unlock SIN DT was getting stabbed with Rebellion again. I think it's just an echo to how Dante first got his DT, and that his improved demon form is just him doing the same thing that unlocked it but at a point where he's much more powerful than what he used to be

It's pretty obvious that Valve were letting the direction they were taking that game influence Portal 2's writing (it was around that point that TF2's lore was going full-retard with the stuff being written in the comics). Dante gets Sin DT because of poetry. Yamato separates, Rebellion combines. He has Sparda on his back and uses Rebellion once again, so he gets a massive boost from Sparda's power. Why Rebellion unlocked his DT in the first place is another matter entirely. I guess the fusion of demon and human, at long last Dante accepted his blood and power.

You can have comedy and seriousness in the same universe. There is nothing in the half life universe which prevents a secret underground facility being hidden away. The only issue portal causes is it stretches the timeline way past anything you could use.

Portal 2 was loved when it came out, considered a good sequel even if not the best ever. Cave was liked and people just enjoyed what was there. It wasn't until the youtube fad of "insightful" commentary videos that made people turn against it. Mathew Mattios or whatever shit all over portal 2 and now everyone shits on it because muh e celeb.

Portal wasn't a serious game, Portal 2 isn't a serious game. There's no reason you can't enjoy HL2 and Portal at the same time. It's like saying you can't enjoy a peaceful afternoon in the sun because there's wars happening in the congo or there are secret labs working on bio weapons.

I haven't given a shit about MGS but I can see what the movie would be going for there. You take Snake as a vietnam guy and he's fighting dogs. Then you show technology catching up and over taking him until he's now fighting robot dogs with chainsaw tails. Your story becomes Snake is no longer a relevant soldier because the world went beyond what soldiers can do. And that's your emotional hook. Ending is snake VS some cyborg fag who clearly out classes him and he has to win on guts and inventiveness alone.

No because the weaponry doesn't just bind everything and anything. Rebellion allowed Dante to absorb his father's weapon and fuse it with his own. It doesn't fuse people.

Rebellions power might also explain why Dante can get weapons the way he does. Rebellion maybe letting him absorb the souls of demons and turn them into equipment like he did Sparda. Where as everyone else has to use weapon smiths.

Both Dante and Vergil have "magic" demon powers, this is the explanation for a lot of things, air hike, weapon charging, Dante not having to "reload" his guns, absorbing, summoning and being able to wield the powers of devilarms, etc. It also seems to give them some basic telekinesis.

Vergil seems to be more adept at using these abilities.

Portal 1's Aperture Science was shown to just be some underground facility. The portal gun itself stretched the believability somewhat as well as an AI sophisticated as Glados but you could buy it being in Half Life 1.

Portal 2's Aperture Science turned into this overblown idea of a colossal lab that was able to reconstruct its own layout on the fly. Even more far-fetched it seems the lab's entire purpose was being able to create test chambers for testing the portal gun, an insanely poor use of something that would have had a ludicrous budget. Jokes were bordering on "are you sure this isn't the TF2 universe?" shit with stuff like the mantis-men gag as well as the idea that a company like Aperture could invent a device so revolutionary and end up going bankrupt.

And people DID complain about Portal 2 back when it was released. Both from a writing standpoint and from a gameplay one (though the latter wasn't particularly justified because Portal 2 did do a good job feeling more like a puzzle game than Portal 1 did).

The mantis-men gag is far from out there if you paid any attention to the first enemy in half life. Headcrabs can turn you into a weird zombie thing but there's no way people messing with portal tech couldn't discover other ways to mutate people's bodies? Having a lab that can reform it's self into different test chambers isn't that outlandish. And there's supposedly a huge time skip between 1 and 2, vastly huge where Glados would have the chance to build an entire new lab if she wanted and we know she's been experimenting with AI creations of her own.

Portal 2 did lean more towards comedy than 1 and many of the jokes miss their market. I'm not going to say it was perfect but being comedy in the HL universe doesn't ruin the universe.

If there was excessive comedy in a half life game it would no longer be a half life game. At least for 2 So I tend to disagree. The problem people aren't acknowledging is that Valve can't put out games fast enough for their writers to stay hired long enough to put out a cohesive universe. You can't have a sequel to something with a completely new team of developers and expect similar results. Thus the product typically suffers.
